Any software alternative to PhoneTray?
- PhongHello I am using the newer version, I have a different way to use this phone tray, not to block call.......but the new version have the dial in thing which I need, because when I am far away from home I connect to my pc by remote and dial in to some work place, sometime they ask "press #1 for English, #2 for service" etc... however the program can only dial its once, is there any simple application out there lets you dial and hear normal like a phone? thanks
- Indigo Jon replies to Sir Bedevere| 6 repliesI have been trying to find PhoneTrayFree and have searched a lot of torrent sites, but I can't seem to find a copy. Yours and other posts have said it's readily available...any suggestions where I can download it?
- Norbert replies to Indigo Jon| 5 repliesGo to Herman's post of 20th December 2013 on this very thread. Its currently on page 4. He has a link there.
- johhny replies to Norbert| 4 repliesI just purchased a 2nd external Sewell modem and it is conflicting with the first. will not let me install. any ideas if a usb splitter mught do the trick?
- Herman replies to johhny| 3 repliesSounds to me, it would more likely be a conflict with the com port than usb. Modem's still use the com port and if both are vying for com1, go to the settings of one of the modems and change it to com2, 3 or 4. Should resolve the conflict. USB, Universal Serial Bus, by its very name wouldn't be the cause of this.
- johnny replies to Herman| 2 repliesHello Herman,
I have changed the COM port to the 1st modem to COM10. I connect the 2nd Modem and when I reboot, I get: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because there is a duplicate device already running in the system. (Code 42). - Herman replies to johnny| 1 replyTo fix this error, restart your computer. Then open the Device Manager, and double click on the device name to access the properties module. Then click the General tab and click Troubleshoot. Now a Troubleshooting Wizard will launch giving you instructions telling you how to fix the error.
If this fails, take a screen shot of the device manager in the control panel - make sure the modem device menu is expanded and post it under the I.T. & Phonetray Questions category on http://800open.betaboard.net Slim (a member there) is also a good resource in helping you resolve this issue. - johnny replies to HermanI spoke to someone at phonetray (actually email). They stated that they do not support 2 modems on windows XP. After he confirmed this, I had to dig up an old internal 56k modem from an old friend, and now I am up and running. Thanks Herman.
- phonejack| 2 repliesall of the links to PhoneTrayFree 1.39 are dead or controlled by the redirect gods of the I-net (take you to new pro version). Hermans link of 12/20/2013 is dead, and doing a regular search results in many appropriately named files of dubious origin. Rather than testing the limits of my virus & malware detection software with all this I-net junk, it would be greatly appreciated if someone would post a new link to the correct software package. Please help. Regards
- Sir Bedevere replies to phonejack| 1 replySet up a free webmail account and post it here. I'll email you a copy (it's only 1.4MB).

Regards - Badge714| 5 repliesJust a quick word of warning about PhoneTray Pro & Windows XP. Windows XP dies in 2 weeks time (really it's just support, but I wanted to be dramatic). PhoneTray Pro HAS to have an internet connection. I had it on an XP computer without an internet connection & in less than a week it stopped working. The Pro version email/password screen popped up. If you don't connect to the internet, log in, & the program checks for updates - it doesn't work any more. We all love programs that want to phone home, don't we? Myself, I still like the free version over the Pro version.
- DesertRat replies to Badge714| 4 repliesI have been using PhoneTrayFree for a couple of weeks. I like it, but I get a lot of the N/A responses from legitimate callers. I don't understand what N/A means. It seems to come from cell phones only. Any help with that would be appreciated.
The one thing I do like about PhoneTray Pro is that it supports a white list.

Windows XP - Sir Bedevere replies to DesertRat| 3 repliesClick the "Settings" tab in PhoneTray and click the "Fix CID" button. That usually takes care of the problem you describe.
- DesertRat replies to Sir BedevereThanks Sir B,
I did what you suggested. Now I'll have to wait for some calls to come in to see if it is fixed. It doesn't happen on every call.
