"ID CW" (ID Crimewatch)
- Sir Bedevere| 36 repliesSeveral threads already about these people (though it may be a one-man operation for all I know) under various phone numbers. I'm going to collect what I've learned here.
According to Whocalledme.com it's some sort of "identity theft protection" scheme:
http://whocalledme.com/PhoneNumber/617-671-0840
There's a little more information at http://www.whycall.me/908-818-0328.html
Apparently it stands for "ID Crimewatch". If you search 800notes for "ID CW" you'll learn more – like other phone numbers they call from (spoofed, most likely):
https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-617-671-0840
https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-908-818-0328
https://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-504-208-5424
The last one leads to their web site: www.idcrimewatch.com (192.41.94.149)
The domain owner is hiding behind Domains by Proxy to conceal his identity. Always a bad sign for a business site. (And why's he hiding his identity? Surely if his "identity theft protection" service is any good he has nothing to fear? <grin>)
Address is 831 East 340 South, Suite 150, American Fork, UT 84003. I'm thinking "Suite 150" may be nothing more than a mail box. Company phone number is alleged to be 800-916-5529, but 800-891-7058 is what appears on the web site. The site itself is a "one-page wonder" – yes, the entire site consists of one single page. With cheesy stock photos (I'd be surprised if they payed the micro-stock fee for them, too) which they claim are of real customers. If anything says "run away from this business" more than this web site I'd like to see it. Well, aside from illegal telemarketing phone calls, that is... - Tamianth replies to Sir BedevereNice catch Sir B! :)
- PO-dinNJ replies to Sir Bedevere| 1 replyIt looks like it could be an office park, or it's under a tree across the street.....
I found the website interesting as Western Medical.
Whatever they are they're targeting the elderly, which is the lowest of the low. - Sir Bedevere replies to PO-dinNJYep. I had a look on google Maps street view. Could be an office park. They may have an actual office in there. I find an actual, physical office hard to reconcile with that one-page sham of a web site, but anything's possible. A lot of the comments under various phone numbers indicate they spoke to people with Indian accents, so the calling seems likely to be farmed out.
- Sir Bedevere| 4 repliesBut wait, there's more!
Notice that the ID Crimewatch web site has a "Western Medical" logo. Identical to the one on this site: http://www.westernmedicalgroup.com/ which (not) coincidentally uses the same cheesy clip-art photos as the Crimewatch site.
...and they list "Identity Protection" as one of their services! In addition to – no surprise here – Medical Alert systems! Ooh, the plot thickens.
http://www.westernmedicalgroup.com/ (at 192.41.94.149 – same IP as idcrimewatch.com)
Also hiding behind "Domains by Proxy" so you can't identify the owner. They give no physical address on their web site, but we know the one for idcrimewatch.com is in American Fork, UT.
Main phone: 888-870-3426
Medical Products (braces, etc.): 866-922-5974
Medical alert: 888-808-4353
Identity Protection: 877-927-6536
Predictably, none of those phone numbers shows up in 800notes. They're probably incoming only. - PO-dinNJ| 5 repliesEspecially since one of their #'s is in NJ.
Big red flag when the company calling you isn't where they say they are.
I got the infamous "unknown name/ unknown number" calls today from someone whom I do business with. When I called them back boy did I let them know that I didn't appreciate that tactic. The woman I spoke with didn't know why that happened except that they did use automated calling to contact their clients. I told her why I felt it wasn't smart on their part, although she was sympathetic we all know it fell on deaf ears.
FYI, it was a medical facility. - Sir Bedevere replies to PO-dinNJ| 4 replies504 is New Orleans
617 is Boston
908 is New Jersey
... and yet the callers have Indian accents and the company is in Utah.
I'll bet there are other phone numbers they're using (spoofing) and we just haven't found them. Yet. - PO-dinNJLol
That's one busy cubicle! - PO-dinNJ replies to Sir Bedevere| 2 repliesI just called the main number. 3-4 rings and a split second of music then nothing, nadda, zip. Glad I don't actually need their services.
- Sir Bedevere replies to PO-dinNJ| 1 reply"Hello? Can you help me? My identity has been stolen!"
"Certainly. Whom am I speaking to?"
"I have no idea!" - Sir Bedevere replies to Sir Bedevere| 29 replies
- Irish gal replies to Sir BedevereExcellent!!!!! What a great sense of humor! Nice to be able to see a post that can make you laugh once in a while, and so appropriate for the subject matter.
- Sir Bedevere| 5 repliesJeezis! They've got *another* web site: http://kmrmedical.com
It's an exact clone of idcrimewatch.com - even hosted at the same IP address.
Perpetrators still hiding behind a Domains by Proxy registration. - Sir Bedevere| 1 replyaaaand another phone number has popped up:
312-436-0571
