"Why would they think American people would fall for such garbage?"
Our rulers have given us a tax code which is largely incomprehensible to the average working person. It is only a small stretch to assume that a call such as this is legitimate. Not everyone knows that IRS would send a hardcopy letter two or three times before anyone might phone, and would name a specific person.

Unfortunately, American people do and quite regularly.
    Think of it this way:
If the scam didn't manage to steal any money, then why would it still be attempted?

11/20 14:20 PST Received call from (939) 560- 3611 today.   ID says Puerto Rico and incredibly poor recorded message claims to be from the IRS and that  I need to call back immediately regarding pending suit.  Number I am supposed to call back is (206) 201-2511.  Has to be the worst recording I have heard yet.  So mechanical I can't believe anyone would fall for this stuff.

Got a call from the "Internal Revenue Service" leaving a VM that they had been trying to contact me. This was my final notice that the IRS was filing a lawsuit against me. I was given a number to call to get information about my "case file." Clearly a scam but my guess is that a lot of people out there will feel intimidated and fearful. Filed a complaint with the FTC.

11/21 6:37 PDT Second call in 2 days trying to run this scam.  Yesterday indicated area code was Puerto Rico.  Today's call from (932) 567- 3631 was the first reported from this number.  Supposedly been trying to reach me and I should call (206) 923-9561 because a criminal case is being filed against me.  After as many reports as there have been about this scam, don't understand how anyone can take these calls seriously.  What really pissed me off today was the time of day this call was attempted.

The Internal Revenue Code is a national scandal, a huge morass of incomprehensible legal jargon created specifically to obfuscate the endless "special tax breaks"  politicians provide  their benefactors.    Reform would be a threat to the corrupt culture of Washington's "pay  to play" politics as we know it today.    The tax code benefits those who hide behind it and know how t manipulate it to the disadvantage of the vast majority who actually try their best pay their taxes, even if they can't figure out what it is they owe and where the money eventually goes.    If the current tax code isn't evidence we are degenerating into a plutocracy, I don't know what is.

Received a call today from a foreigner claiming to be from the IRS regarding tax fraud. He says he needs my Soc. Sec. Number and to call back immediately.  The number he called from was 734-847-8658. The number he wants me to call is 501-490-9416.  Next time he calls I will blow a whistle loudly into his ear!

    Rex,
First, thank you for all the information. Knowledge is power & with the ineffective non-action of our government it's unbelievable. I would like to know who is removing your posts and how to complain to. You have done nothing but help!

removes posts which violate TOS - which includes posting the same thing multiple times in the same thread - which comes across as spamming.

Which, however, does not apply to my posts which are not repeated in threads. Removals of my postings have happened rarely since I wrote this last year.

"Removals of my postings have happened rarely since I wrote this last year."

That's because you haven't been posting ad nauseum...like you did when you first began to post.

My dear "You said", ad nauseam posting can only be a concern to you if you read the main page for a hobby. I never posted twice in a single thread (unless it happened once or twice by mistake).

What the "ad nauseam" should indicate to you is that there are hundreds and hundreds of phone numbers used for this IRS scam. Every single thread benefits from this info, as people mostly come to this website from search engines where they look for the individual number. Copy and paste fraud scripts require copy and paste info as antidote.
