I never received calls from these "masked caller ID" numbers of "ooo-ooo-oooo" until after I added my home phone number to the anti-telemarketing list at www.DoNotCall.gov

I am certain that the numerous calls I get from this # at ALL hours of EVERY day are from more than one telemarketer, all of whom are using the Caller ID masking to exploit calling people who are on the DoNotCall list without getting into trouble.

I admit getting calls from an "all zeros" phone # scared me at first.  My mind went to all kinds of paranoid possibilities.  But it's simply the same telemarketers that harass us on a regular basis, using new methods to avoid getting themselves busted for it.

As for the "IT'S VERISON OR CANADA BELL OR AT&T" revelations -- seriously people, who do you expect to answer when you call "0" -- the operator of your telephone service.  Show some common sense and stop picking on your poor telephone providers! xD

I'm glad I found this site, too, because reading how many other people get these calls and that they are, in fact, just more nefarious telemarketing methods, will finally negate any nagging fears that sprung up in my mind when the phone rings with this #.  Time to start answering with, "What color is your underwear?" indeed. =)

I was able to block this number just fine, with a caller ID box that isn't made anymore <grrrr>. But it doesn't keep them from calling, even though the box tells them that "this number isn't accepting your calls" and then hangs up on them :-). They have called 36x since I first blocked them.

I received this call on Saturday afternoon on my cell, I did not answer it, and they called back 15 minutes later, again, did not answer. I didn't receive the call again that day, but when I arrived to work this morning and checked my missed calls, the number was there, so they tried my work phone and cell phone in the same day... I am not please.

Hey, you want to get back at these callers, typically telemarketing companies.

    Here's one way...

When they call. (if you recognize the call display number as one of them).
    1.   Don't say anything at all (Don't even say hello).
    2.   Don't hang up (very important).
    - Even if you say hello by accident continue with the next steps.
    3.   Press mute (so they can't receive anything from you).
    4.   If you have speaker phone put it on speaker (so you can listen if you want).
    5.   If you don't want to listen or don't have mute (put them on hold, if you can).

Just keep them on the line without saying anything and without hanging up.  It'll appear as your line is an active but dead line.

The best thing is that you'll waste their time and money.  While you have them on hold, they can't make anymore calls with the line they're using to call you.  And, if they're making a long distance call (typical as they are often call sells set-up overseas) they're running up a bill.  Imagine, they're paying the bill for a wasted call.  The longer you tie them up the more it'll cost them and the less calls they can make to others.

Note: a lot of telemarketing companies train their staff to not hang up on customers as the longer they can keep someone on the line the more likely they'll make a sale.  They actually have the system automatically monitoring the call and if the telemarketer hangs up their manager makes note and will check out why.  Only the customer is allowed to hangup.  Don't worry, after a minute or two the telemarketer has to just sit there and wait for their system to recognize the call as dead and it'll eventually disconnect.  In some cases the system will automatically list your number as a dead line and take you off their list.

If it's prank call, they'll eventually get the point that calling a dead line is no fun and they'll stop calling.  Important to not say anything at all.

It can be fun.  Once I sat there and just listened to a telemarketer breath and sigh waiting, he didn't seem happy that I wasn't hanging up.  I heard him talking to others waiting for the line to disconnect.

YEP, call me and you'll pay for the call.  I get free entertainment.

One other caller must of said "Hello?" about 25 times before they stopped.  I cracked up laughing.  Good thing I had mute on.

Enjoy and have fun wasting their money.

** the best and ruthless trick is **... waste their time!!!
    1.  Answer normally,
    2.  Stop them say, "Oh, sorry the baby's crying I'll be right back", and put them on hold.  (or make some other excuse).
    3.  Wait 2 mins and say, "oh sorry, who's this?" let them answer and then immediately say in a worried voice, "OH MY, sorry I left the bottle boiling on the stove, hang on I'll be back" put them on hold again.
    4.  wait 2 mins and say, "hi, I'm really sorry it took so long, who are you again?"...
    5. continue with other excuses and continue to put them on hold over and over again until they hang up.
** IMPORTANT ** Totally ignore what they are saying and interrupt them with your excuse.  Just say the excuse even if they're talking.  Talk right over them.

    Don't say "yes".
    Don't agree to anything.
    Don't answer any questions.
    Don't acknowledge them at all.

Just keep giving excuses to leave the phone and put it on hold.
    - oops, I left the water running hang on.
    - oops, someone's at the door hang on.
    - Ah MAN! the dog's barking hang on.
    - WHAT! WHAT!  Hang on I'll be right their!  Just a min I have to tell the kids to be quiet I'll be right back.
    - Hang on my cell phone is ringing, I'll be right back.

Make you're own excuses and keep them on the line.

Enjoy and have fun wasting their money.

I got a text message on my cell phone from this odd phone number that had nothing but xxx-xxx-xxxx which happens to be my house phone number.  I have no idea how these people got both of my numbers and texted me one of them, but they did.  I replied with a text and I was told by another odd number that I could not send a text message to that number, because it was invalid, which, of course a number like that is.  Then, when I tried calling the number, it also said that it was 'not active.'  What is this?

Yes I will try it.but since they call people everyday
don't you think they have heard all this before?
They will know instantly when you start playing this game
because they have heard it so many times before
    and they will hang up.
But its still fun to do this and waste their money
and time for no reason. however Im sure they will pick up on it
    right away.

I've been getting two or three calls a day from this all-zero number. This last week, I counted 27 calls on my phone log from this number. I am on the DNC registry, but apparently that doesn't matter to these wastes of space. I also get calls from a 068 number several times a week, too.

After receiving almost a call a day from these [***], I googled it, found the website in question and went to it. There is a link on that page which can get your phone number out of their data banks. Go to it and plug in your information to cut the calls.

This number called me saying I won a trip for two to Nassau Bahamas. All I had to do was answer 10 questions. Those questions pretty much set you up to tell a research company your name, age, sex and marital status. Upon completion of the questions, from what I've gathered, you are invited online to participate in a survey (provided you meet the criteria they were looking for with the phone questions) at http://surveyclaim.com.  By passing the survey I hit the contact tab in the upper right-hand corner and there I found a link to remove my number from their internal database. I gave them a temporary e-mail address (Google "temporary e-mail") to which they sent me an e-mail confirming that they were an opinion research company (Exempt from the National Do Not Call list) but that they would take my number out of their internal database and not contact me again. It was funny because when the website asked for my name, I put Nunya Business and in the e-mail it addressed me as Mr. Nunya Business. I was receiving this phone call almost once a day for three weeks, I visited the website and gave them my NUMBER only and almost instantly it stopped. Please vote appropriately on this response as it WILL help others stop the calls.
