They called and the woman forced the point on me that they have been mailing me notices for three months to extend the warranty on my car - she knew brand and year. She claimed they are the underwriters for Kia warranty coverage, and they're about to close my file for lack of response. When I asked if there was a website where I could see this information, she quickly told me no, that she would close my file, and hung up before I could get a word in edgewise. When I dialed the number, the call wouldn't go through. What crooks!

Some third world female idiot with a horrible barely intelligible accent called and asked for Richard. When I asked who was calling she said something about a car warranty, but did not give her name. I asked her if she was aware she breaking the law by even calling me since my number is on the do not call list. She stated that there was no do not call list and hung up. I'm filing the appropriate FCC and donotcall complaints right now.

Usually, when I get  a call from an unknown number like this, I immedicately check it out by a Google search.  If they are a scammer or a nuisance that people have complained about, the second time they call, I just push # repeatedly right after picking up and then hang up.  That seems to stop the attempts at calling my number again.  If they call a third time, I block the number.

Scammer selling extended warranties for vehicles.  Caller ID is stolen/spoofed and only displays "HACKENSACK NJ" with the hijacked phone number.

This con artist has simply stolen the fax number of a NJ auto dealer to use as their own to hide their illegal deals.

Refer to www.fcc.org - "Caller ID service, however, is susceptible to fraud. Using a practice known as “caller ID spoofing,” callers can deliberately falsify the telephone number and/or name relayed as the Caller ID information to disguise the identity of the calling party. For example, identity thieves who want to collect sensitive information such as your bank account or other financial account numbers, your social security number, your date of birth or your mother’s maiden name, sometimes use caller ID spoofing to make it appear as though they are calling from your bank, credit card company, or even a government agency."

This number called here asking for my husband, when I said, can I take a message, they would not respond.
They hung up.  My only guess is that they will keep calling.  Annoying to say the least.

Trying to sell extended warranty on a Honda vehicle.  Argued with me about their violating no call listing- said they had sent me a USPS letter and I had not replied.  I told them that didn't make me a customer.

There are at least two options for those bothered by people originating these offensive calls:
    1. Go to www.fcc.com and click on the electronic complaint form, filling out each of the entries (takes about two minutes), identifying the date and time of the unwanted call(s), any identifying information from Caller ID ("Unavailable" is a valid entry), your number where the call was received and your name, street and email addresses. The FCC will immediately respond with an email to you, identifying the file number assigned to your complaint. If everyone filed these complaints to the FCC, that deluge will prompt an investigation and likely a fine on the calling party.
    2. I followed a recommendation from a comment listed elsewhere on 800Notes, where that person was extremely frustrated over calls from a number different than 201-845-6009 (as the above folks obviously are) and purchased a DIGITONE Call Blocker from www.digitone.com Three features attracted my interest: a) I now can block up to 80 specific telephone numbers, b) This device has "First Ring Supression." meaning that you will not even hear the first ring!!, c) you can block entire area codes, a feature that can be used to block all 800, 866, 877, etc. numbers or those from specific (not toll-free) numbers. There may be other devices available, too. I saw immediate success with the one I purchased.
    Silence can be Golden!!
Even so, I regularly report annoying/illegal/robo calls, etc. to the FCC. Now that I also use the DIGITONE device these annoying calls have been greatly reduced in number.

Complaining about these calls only makes you feel reasonably "good" while you enter a record on this web site (which thank goodness assists us all in identifying scams), but if you REALLY wish to assist the government, you MUST file a formal complaint with the FCC.  Provide them every bit of identying information you can and when they accumulate enough details, they will fine the originator a significant high-dollar fine.
