If they call you back, ask them if Hadda Grey is a man or a woman.  Last time I trolled them they said it was a man.  Kept them on the line for five minutes, discussing the name.  All around Indian scam call center, they handle IRS scams, loan scams, grant scams and Vishnu knows what else.

I just got a message on my cell and unknowingly called back.  For Daniel and the exact same threats as mentioned by others.  The only thing I confirmed was that it was my cell.  What are they looking for and Am I in any I jeopardy?

WASHINGTON — The Internal Revenue Service today warned consumers about a sophisticated phone scam targeting taxpayers, including recent immigrants, throughout the country.

Victims are told they owe money to the IRS and it must be paid promptly through a pre-loaded debit card or wire transfer. If the victim refuses to cooperate, they are then threatened with arrest, deportation or suspension of a business or driver’s license. In many cases, the caller becomes hostile and insulting.

“This scam has hit taxpayers in nearly every state in the country.  We want to educate taxpayers so they can help protect themselves.  Rest assured, we do not and will not ask for credit card numbers over the phone, nor request a pre-paid debit card or wire transfer,” says IRS Acting Commissioner Danny Werfel. “If someone unexpectedly calls claiming to be from the IRS and threatens police arrest, deportation or license revocation if you don’t pay immediately, that is a sign that it really isn’t the IRS calling.” Werfel noted that the first IRS contact with taxpayers on a tax issue is likely to occur via mail
Other characteristics of this scam include:
Scammers use fake names and IRS badge numbers. They generally use common names and surnames to identify themselves.
Scammers may be able to recite the last four digits of a victim’s Social Security Number.
Scammers spoof the IRS toll-free number on caller ID to make it appear that it’s the IRS calling.
Scammers sometimes send bogus IRS emails to some victims to support their bogus calls.
Victims hear background noise of other calls being conducted to mimic a call site.
After threatening victims with jail time or driver’s license revocation, scammers hang up and others soon call back pretending to be from the local police or DMV, and the caller ID supports their claim.
If you get a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS, here’s what you should do:
If you know you owe taxes or you think you might owe taxes, call the IRS at 1.800.829.1040. The IRS employees at that line can help you with a payment issue – if there really is such an issue.
If you know you don’t owe taxes or have no reason to think that you owe any taxes (for example, you’ve never received a bill or the caller made some bogus threats as described above), then call and report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at 1.800.366.4484.
If you’ve been targeted by this scam, you should also contact the Federal Trade Commission and use their “FTC Complaint Assistant” at FTC.gov.  Please add "IRS Telephone Scam" to the comments of your complaint.
Taxpayers should be aware that there are other unrelated scams (such as a lottery sweepstakes) and solicitations (such as debt relief) that fraudulently claim to be from the IRS.
The IRS encourages taxpayers to be vigilant against phone and email scams that use the IRS as a lure. The IRS does not initiate contact with taxpayers by email to request personal or financial information.  This includes any type of electronic communication, such as text messages and social media channels. The IRS also does not ask for PINs, passwords or similar confidential access information for credit card, bank or other financial accounts. Recipients should not open any attachments or click on any links contained in the message. Instead, forward the e-mail to phishing@irs.gov.

June 27  9:55 am San Diego  Ca  Received a call but didn't answer. Left message; sounded like a weird female electronic voice saying : This is the Internal Revenue Service, you must call back as soon as possible or you will be arrested.

Thanks, I received the same call, some body have to do something about it, they scare people.

I got the same call (IRS threat) and called back and asked what country they were from? The Arab accented voice said he was with the Taliban! (And that he had moved here) I could not believe he would be proud of that in this country. I told him to go home and "Fu@&" his mom some more and hung up. My wife was pissed that I would say such a thing to a stranger scam artist or not? But, life is full of headaches that are genuine, no one needs this.

We have received the same message two times.  Thanks for the IRS link to report.  I think everyone should report this, and hopefully we can get it stopped.

I got a similar message from the same # insisting legal action would proceed if I did not respond and not to ingnore the message but I was most suspcious of the last 2 words as I am certain the IRS would never end a call in that fashion. But to see who it really was, I called the line from my work # and instantly knew it was an ovoerseas call center.  He asked for the phone #. I hung up.

Don't ever give your phone # or any information to anyone you did not call at a published #.  That's how professional criminals piece together your credit data.  Our credit was recently compromised with $$$$ charges to accounts we never set up and one of the retailers, Kohls will not pursue the matter as they see it as a cost of business. Thank heaven for Walmart who alerted us!

I got exactly the same recorded message this afternoon and figured right away that it was a scam. Will also file a  complaint with
www.ftc.gov.

I received a call today identical to the one reported by Esther on May 20. I am in no trouble with the IRS and as noted by many others a contact by the IRS would be by certified mail which I have not received. Another give away is that this call came in on July 4th...how many government employees do you know who are working today??? Not too swift on the scammers part there.

I received a similar voice generated message from 202-241-7165 on 10/9/14. Not sure the name used in the call as the audio quality was very poor. Says he is from IRS and to call back that number. I did just to see what or who it was behind this but the line never got through. Another scam number to watch out for! Thanks for sharing everyone

Someone faked as IRS debt collector and ask to pay $1245 immediately while on call. He has given me some fake warrant number etc and asked to go and buy some gove pay bond from local store and pay the stuff.

By that time I searched the phishing call from this number 202 283 1710. As soon as i told him this a fake call his tone changes , when I asked him why IRS don't send a proper postal mail , he said no now a days we use phone and bla bla .. I understood it is a phishing call and hang the phone

Got 4 calls Friday from 202 241 2158 and 408 418 0221
See...that was their mistake. Starting Friday continuing thru Saturday and resuming Monday, I have called them back over 2000 times. They have admitted to being a scam, informed me they are from Karachi, Pakistan, and said they would kill me my mother, wife, sister and my dog if I didn't stop calling. I haven't stopped calling.
