I just got a call from this guy. I kept asking is this real and I did not know what to do and finally he acted like bad phone service-"can u hear me?""hello,hello". Then he hung up, but the number he called me from  was 202-666-7272 from DC and $8400 grant from the federal gov.

I was also contacted by a main with an Indian accent with the same area code, but different phone number.  The number was unavailable on my caller ID, but I spoke to the man for a while.  He told me that I was selected to get a government grant for $8,400 and he said the could transfer it to any bank or any credit card. I thought it was a scam at the very beginning.  The government just doesn't call people and give them thousands of dollars for no reason.  I told him that I didn't have an account, but I had a prepaid credit card and he said that would be fine so I gave him my name, credit card number, exp. date, and also my address.  However, when he asked for the 3 digit security code on the back of my card I told him there was no way I was going to give him that number and if he had to have it for me to get my money, then the government could keep their damn money.  So, then, he said ok and just ask for my address and told me to call (202) 747-2177 and gave me a code # that was MC473 and to tell the person that answered the phone to tell the that Peter Yrumg told me to call and to give them the code he gave me. Before I called the number I Googled it and found this Website and found out it had been reported as spam/fraund.  So, then I called the number and it took forever for someone to answer and when they finally did they asked for the code number so I gave it to them, but then I told them that I looked up the number online and it said it was spam and a fraud and the put me on hold for a long time and I finally hung up.  I called them back and said that I knew that they were scamming people using the name of the US government and that I was reporting them to the FBI and said, "Good Bye", but I didn't hang up and niether did they.  I guess they thought I hung up and I heard them talking but I think they were talking in a different language to each other then, they finally hung up.  It difinitely confirmed to me that they were scam artists because when I said I knew they were a fraud and I was reporting them, they didn't even try to argue or say that it wasn't a fraud.  So, I just wanted to let you know about this number 202-747-2177 being a fraud, and I wan't to say I am so sorry that they stole $600 from you and I hope you get it back, but it's very unlikely.  From now on please don't believe anything that sounds to good to be true because most of the time it is just that "to good to be true".  Sorry for your loss.  I wish you the best and thank you for reporting your experience here on this site because it may save others from being scammed too.  Luckily, the prepaid credit card number I gave them is not activated and no money has ever been put on it.  Thanks, Patricia Forster

I was contacted in the same way by someone claiming that I was selected to receive an $8,400 grant.  Luckily I didn't let them scam me and I called them out on it and threatened to call the FBI on them.  My question is how did you get that government prepaid card because I would like one too, so incase this happends again I would have the same protection as you do.  If you don't mind please email me on how to get on of these cards.  My email address is hotpinkforster@gmail.com.  Thank you for sharing your story and about this card.  I hope to hear from you soon.  Thank you very much!!

I just got the same call from 202-370-7640 just 20mins ago saying i was approved for 8,700 dollars thank god i only gave them a empty prepaid card number lol they wanted me to call this guy name Mike Michael
he told me i needed to pay a one time fee of $210 dollars some one really needs to put a investagation on these guys.

I just got this call from this number 202-370-7640 the guy tells me i was approved for a gov grant of $8700 said it was free took my prepaid card number which had no money in it and then said I had to call Mike Michael with the grant number he provided for me which was JK213 gave him that number and all of a sudden he tells me i needs to pay a fee of $210 and i told him i didnt have it and then told me to get it from a friend or family. Im sorry but theres one thing i will not is ask my friends and family for that kind of cash and another theres no way id give money up to get money you shouldnt say it free then as for a fee for charity this needs to be stopped.

I got a call from (202) 905-8527 today 5-7-13, man said I get $9000 government grante for no fellony and having been in the service. then asked me to call back this number (202) 657-4180 and give the code he gave me but wait 5 minutes. I called back and another man ask if I wanted the money in a bank account or in check form? I said send the money in check to my pobox...(Today is my roommates exhusband's wife birthday. hmm? they know my address too. and had my cell number.) Central NOrth Dakota.
I'll post what happens after 2 business days....I'll post if I get a check or not and if it was cashable.

I would like to thank each of you that shared your story, it made me aware of the scam in time to cancel my card before any damage was done.  I should have been smarter than that, but like all of you, wanted to believe it was true.  I am very sorry for any of you that actually lost money, that is horrible and they should be ashamed of themselves.

I got the same call yesterday saying I was get 8400 dollars I hang up the phone I knew this was a lie then they call back saying I got until 7 to send them 215 dollars thur wester union nd they wanna me to call when I get there so he can make sure I send it... So y'all please dnt go for it at all

Received a call from 202-666-5450 stating I was selected to receive 8400$ as a government grant. When the man (Indian or Pakistan accent) said I needed a valid bank account number or credit card number where they could deposit the money and that it had to be completed within 45 minutes I realized this was a scam I see others have received the same or similar calls from different numbers I figured I wouldst add this number.

Here is another number to add to the list for Brad Johnson!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They already have my checking acct number and my daughters saving acct.(Michelle Watson)

this same guy  gary taylor has called me and assured me this is how it works . pay  this one time processing fee and then call him to recieve my funds. good to know he was a big liar. and i now can try and catch him and his associates. thanks for a heads up.

I got a call from a woman- couldn't understand her name but she sounded Nigerian.  I was selected to receive a government grant in the amount of $8400.00  The phone # on my caller ID is 202-666-4401.  I told her I was not going to give her my bank account info nor was I going to give my debit card # to her. I told her I thought this was a scam because I did not sign up for any surveys from the government.  She was very quick to ask me if I wanted the money or not? I don't have a "money card" like on from Wal-Mart, but I could get one and call her back.  Click.  She hung up.  Amazing the audacity of people.  I'm not falling for their scam.

I just received a call from that same 202 number for 8615 and i have to pay them 239.00 before 5pm today.

I received the same call the from the same exact numbers, by the same individuals, and asked the same questions. This is the second time in about a month. I pray they get caught! It is definitely a scam, whoever had to pay to receive free money? I was told I had to first pay $1oo odd dollars in order to have the money loaded to my card. I knew something was off right away!

Got a phone call today from "U.S. Government Grant Department" (202-666-8540) saying I am eligible for a grant of $8,400.00. After talking to the verification specialist they gave me a Grant Approval Number along with a phone number (202-370-7640) to call to claim the grant. I called the claims number and spoke with George Williams. Williams told me that in order to receive the grant I had to pay a one time processing fee. When I told him I wouldn't pay for the fee, he asked if I realize that would mean I can't receive the grant. I told him yes I know and I'm not interested. He then hung up. I looked up government grant scams and the descriptions all have minute changes, making it look it they aren't the same scams. Please beware.
