Being harrased by this number all day & night 202 455 8888......From Google, I suspect.  Two people I know recently quit Google for this constant calling with a code number

Just got a call from 202-455-8888 with a recorded message which was a code number. This was immediately entering my cell number at Alaskaair.com. Coincidence?

I received a call from this number just few minutes after register my number in GOOGLE VOICE

I got two calks. from. today

Got the call from the 1-202-455-8888 and asked to enter the 2-digit code-3 times, we hung up.  We called the number back, researched and found it was Google Voice.  But, my calls were than mysteriously forwarded to a 513 area code.  We called that number and there was a fuzzy voicemail.  Now I cannot call out and cannot receive phone calls on my Comcast home phone!  We have removed the strange number it was forwarded too, but I still have no phone.

Comcast is working on it.

We did NOT request a Google Voice account.  If it was a mistake from someone typing in the wrong number how was our phone transferred and why did I lose my dial tone.  

Comcast shows that I don't even have a modem hooked up now-which our phone goes through.  

I received two calls from this number 202-455-8888 at 10:42pm & 10:50pm, this crap is ridiculous. i didn't answer the call. please tell me who this person is.

This call came into my Fiancee's number at 12:05 AM this morning. It appears to be a scammer based on comments provided,

i was talking to this girl on chat site called airg she said she wanted to tex with me gave me a code for when  she called so my phone rings then i put the code in the phone hung up so i googled the number and learned ive been scammed what do i do now

I just received a call from this number, but did not answer it cause I did not recognize the #.  I have been trying to get tech support for my email account and they sent me a text and said to tell them the verification code numbers so they can verify who I am, don't know if this is legit or not, but gave them the 6 numbers on cell screen, then 30 min later get a call from this number, what is going on?

I got a call from 917-274-7263. He wanted to talk & I have to put in 2 digit codes.
Then, there a call from 202-455-8888 prompting 2 digit codes. People reported that 202-455-8888 is google account.
This is scammer. Don't talk to 917-274-7263.

Call received from this number to my place of employment, did not return this call.

IF YOU HAVE BEEN ASKED BY SOMEONE ELSE TO ENTER A TWO DIGIT CODE AFTER YOU ARE CALLED BY 202-455-8888, IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU TAKE THE TIME TO READ THIS..

When setting up a new Google Voice (GV) telephone number the following steps are required:

1.  The GV number must be tied to an existing phone number (landline or cell number)
2.  To confirm that the existing number belongs to the person setting up the GV account, Google shows a two digit number on your computer screen
3.  An an automated service calls the existing phone number from  202-455-8888 and asks you to enter the two digit code shown on your computer screen
4.  Once you enter the two digit code, the existing phone number is linked to the GV number
5.  Once the two numbers are linked, calls from the GV number a routed through the existing phone number.  This can result in both usage and long distance charges to your phone, and well as scams being linked to your phone number
6.  Having Google change this will be very difficult, since their records are kept by the Google Voice number, not by the existing phone number
7.  Even if you do not have charges against your account, you have assisted someone in setting up a telephone number that can be used for scam/criminal/terrorism purposes

If this has happened to you it is imperative that you contact your existing carrier for help.  If it has not happened please have enough sense not to enter codes requested by unknown parties in the future.  Good luck -
