I get continuous calls from this number. Never pick it up but I don't know who would be calling me from 202 area code.

i started to set up a g-mail account about 3 months ago. I got a verification code (by text) that i needed to enter to open the account. I couldn't remember the user name i had used and was not able to finalize the account set-up process. I tried  and after becoming frustrated I gave up. Today I received a text stating my g-mail account had been hacked. The said i'd be called back in 10mins. they called and the call couldn't be answered. I tried to call back and the call can't be made. After reading a bunch of posts regarding this number
i'm convinced this has to be a scam.

Was setting up my google voice account to my cell phone and had to verify the cell phone was mine by entering a two digit code provided by google. I prompted the call online (google voice), it rang, I entered the code, and my google voice account was confirmed and connected to my existing cell phone. The number in question on this page is apparently the google voice number. Just remember, though that numbers can be spoofed easily - there are several websites that allow you to make any number you wish show up on someone's caller ID. So, unless you are signing up for google voice and you PROMPT THE CALL YOURSELF on their website, don't answer.

This is where you're sadly mistaken. Clearly calling people at all hours is NOT mischievous? What type of delusional world do you live in? This idiot is just that, IDIOT. He or she can't go around calling people at all hours of the night and day. That's MISCHIEVOUS. I don't use google btw, so kindly explain why they are calling with another number and trying to pass out confirmation codes? They know EXACTLY what number they typed.

i tried to sell a phone in craiglist, and i recived a text mesage from this number  717 836-0105  the text say, am calling you now press 19 so you can hearme clear,ok.  and i received the call from 202-455-8888 number ,but i dont insert the code just i hang the phone, and him send to me a nother code, but i dont answer any more, i send back a text sorry i sold the phone, and they dont call to me any more..

This is a call from Google Voice verifying that you input a new phone number into your Google Voice account.

I met a man supposedly from Clanton AL that wanted me to enter codes into the same number.  I have always wondered if he was a scammer.  I guess now I know.  The number called my phone.  I answered, but didn't enter or say any codes.  I would love to know what this Ray Clark in San Diego looks like.  I bet he may be the same person.  This is a very similar story to the one I heard.

This appears to be a legitimate number for Google's 2-step verification when you log in.  I know it's confusing as there are many who claim to be Google who are not.  However, this is the real deal.  For example, if you log into your Gmail account they will ask you for 2-step verification.  This phone call is the second step.

This number is fake if u receive a text it is not google the [***] above saying it is google r the same scammers .I was on a dating site got contacted by pic of beutiful girl they tried hacking my coomputer , got into my phon e couldn't hack info so sent me text from this number wangting to enter verifacation codes over the phone lol haha.

Had a text regarding my "Google account being compromised." Typed in "CALL" had a voice automated call for "reactivation" and a "code" (62) that was requested. Punched in the code, but then it disconnected. Had a phone call about an hour later (from a 210 area code) asking me to "Press 1 to accept this call." Didn't press anything, and then it suddenly shut off. Called the person at the 210 area code number, and it was a guy who said he had replied to a message from Google. I let him know it was likely a phishing scam. My theory is that if I had "accepted" the call (by pressing '1'), that my cell phone bill would have been hit with some kind of crazy charge.

BEWARE!

This is coming from Google Voice Verification. When a person sets up a new number with Google Voice they get a call from this number. On their computer screen they see an approval code that they must enter in when they answer the call from GV. Some of the reasons you might get a call from this number:
1. A person has used a phone in your residence or office to setup a GV Account
2. A scammer is spoofing the number and calling people randomly or repeatedly hoping the will enter the correct code. Or the scammer is actually using your home or office phone either from inside the residence our outside at the demarcation point where the line terminates to come into the building.
3. You are setting up a Google Voice account and are just too STUPID to realize that it wants you to enter the code you see on your screen.

Scam call

I just received 2 calls from some automated system saying that they were giving me a verification code from Google.  

I called Google and they do not know what this is about.  They say it may be a phishing call but cannot help me.  I do not want a virus on my computer.  Have no idea why I got this call, but it is the same phone number on my cell phone you reported.  Today is May 14th, 2013.  .
