I *67 them and what I got as a message was "American Institute for Cancer Research".Whether this is legit or not,they do not leave a message just their little sound bit of dead air noise

07-14-09:  4:10 p.m.  Again, received a call from this number but no
message and if I do pick up the phone when called, there is no one
on the line.  HARRASSMENT!!!!!

This is a automated call that continuously rings the home phone number. Do Not Call list does not work for this phone number. I believe it is something to do with the Cancer Society.

Called twice - the first time the ringing stopped after two rings - no one there.  The second time I picked it up on the second ring and received dial tone.  Caller ID lists it only as a Washinton DC call and lists the telephone number.

do not answer!  i get these calls all the time and after about 2 weeks they stop. they never leave a message. only reason i know they call is that we have caller ID.  This country is finished?!! Can you imagine no privacy at all.  What a joke this do not call list.  Just do not pick up the phone not even once.  If you do they know you are home at a certain time and will keep calling at that particular time and will keep ringing.  Even if you hear a dead noise they are recording your voice on the other end at that time.  Let your machine pick up It will STOP.

Got a call from this number and was asked to mail letters to my friends and neighbors for American Institute of Cancer Research.  I told them I don't have the time or the energy to do that.  What I really meant was that I don't want to prey on the people I know for an unknown organization.

I just got a call, saying it was urgent to speak to my parents...he sounded Texan. We have protection against tele-marketers, so I don't know how this got through.

They called during the day and I answered.  The woman said they were from the Cancer Society and asked me to (more like tolds me) to mail out fifteen information packages to my neighbors in October(Breast Cancer Awareness month)and I would have to pay the postage.  I agreed (our family has been plagued by cancer and I am a donator) and she confirmed that I would pay the postage then ended the call.  I found it odd that she did not confirm my address.  They called back two days later on a Sunday evening my husband answered and requested they take us off the call list.  They requested to talk to me several times but he refused but they have not called again.
Just the way they handled things made me question the authenticity of the call.

three calls this week alone after one call two weeks ago. WHO ARE THESE PEOPLE??  as others have suggested, we do not answer the phone so as to not give them any authentication of our number.  i hope the person who said they eventually move on is correct!!!

They called me.  When I answered, no one was on the other line.

Yes they have called several times at my home. I recenly visited DC and I think they got my number from some where and now I am getting these calls during the day.
