This is a very questionable "charity" - AICR (American Institute for Cancer Research".  First, they apparently don't do any research (I guess they just think it would be a good idea if someone did some).  They appear to me to be a political front group, using a "hot button" issue to raise money and further their political goals.  They get a very poor rating on Charity Navigator's web site.  And they seem to be another abusive "harassment tactics" fund raiser.  Seems like lots of folks lining their pockets here, and not much being done by these bozos to fight cancer.
I would avoid these folks, and wouldn't dream of giving them a penny.  If you want to give them hell about calling you, here is their contact info.  I'd think twice about emailing them, you'll probably get spammed.

1-202-495-7181, Washington DC caller ID.  Last Thursday I answered to see if it was an automated call, a seemingly surprised man(southern accent) answered and said they were from the Cancer Society and asked if I would mail out fifteen information packets to my neighbors for breast cancer awareness in October. All I would need to do was address packet and attach postage .  I reluctantly said yes and he confirmed that I would pay the postage. He verified my address,said and I would receive my packet in October then ended the call. This # has been on my caller ID every day since. No more answering unsourced call! If it's legit, leave a message.

Called main number above.  Woman who answered was a snotty talking smart-ass.  I got transferred to a man who seemed pleasant enough.  He took my number and said the calls would stop.  Time will tell.

Same as most people above -- American Institute For Cancer Research. I Googled them and they have a legitimate looking website, but I'm not about to give money and become  what is known as a "responder" in the world of telemarketing. We all know where that leads, they'll sell my name and number and then I'll get calls from every charity this side of the international date line. They'll stop calling after a while. They always do.

I constantly get calls from this number, tell them repeatedly we are on the "do not call" list and not to call back, its annoying and frustrating if you try and return number its disconnected or no longer in service.

we live in area code 828 and is on the do not call list also. we don't answer the phone, but they call at least every other day for about a week now. I'm guessing by the above comments, they are gearing for their fund drive. hang in there, don't answer, it'll go away once their fund raiser is over...I'm guessing October.

oh, on another note, this place can't be legit...they are not even listed in  www.superpages.com (either white or yellow pages). any legitimate organization would be listed and they would answer their phone. Do not answer your phone, they most likely have some sort of tricky spam deal going on or worst yet record your voice for whatever devious reasons. You'd be surprise what technology can do now...I know I'm an internet marketer (but I'm "white hat", meaning good).

calls at least once a day for the past two months.  No-one on the line.

This number has called several times in the afternoon, last weekend they
called on Sunday and today they called in the morning.  I will not answer the call and hopefully it will stop.

The nerve of these people to solicit this way will only make people not want to give any more money for Cancer Research what are they thinking?

I am on the Do Not Call List!  Wish I knew what to do....Think I will give their number to my Governor nephew.

Do yourself a favor.  Go to the DNC gov website, and READ, REALLY READ...

You will find that Poltical organizations and NONprofits are EXEMPT (yes EXEMPT) from DNC lists....

So they CAN and WILL call you, even if your phone numbers are on the DNC list...

PLAIN and SIMPLE..  Please everybody posting and complaining about Non-profits and other exempt from abiding by the DNC call list...STOP posting and NOW the RULES and EXEMPTIONS... Stop wasting YOUR time, by posting here.
