Got the same call - surprisingly owing the same amount as you!  Go figure.  I got hung up on when I demanded they send me a copy of the charges they were reading to me over the phone.  I'll admit, I was shaken up initially, until I realized it made no sense.  If they call from the same number, why can't law enforcement do something to shut them down?

Same scam call from 202-506-8392. It is a recorded voice claiming to be officer Julie Smith of the IRS.

"Julie Smith" must be a very busy lady and the only employee the IRS has!!  Received a phone call from her Saturday morning with the same schpiel(sp?) that  everyone else got.  I don't think the IRS would contact you is such a unprofessional manner.  Just another scam no doubt.

SCAM! Claiming to be IRS. Always a Middle Eastern accent; India, Pakistan etc. This guy was John Smith (with an Indian accent) wanted me to write down his name and badge number and read it back. You could hear in background a call center atmosphere all voices Middle Eastern. I have gotten several of these scam IRS calls in the past month from various area codes and all Middle Eastern accent.
