Received a threatening voicemail from this number claiming to be IRS.  Asking not to ignore the warning and call back immediately.

The consumers, phone companies and the Government should collaborate to put a stop to this, particularly if the scam is from a country like Pakistan that is haven for terrorists and their connection to 9/11.

Just received a call this morning from 202-506-9726 Washing DC.  Same experience as everyone else.
I was like oh crap... not the IRS.  Got me worried all morning.

    Several question come to mind:
    1.  IRS does work on the weekend
    2.  I have multiple jobs, I don't owe taxes, and I pay a lot more taxes than then most individual.
    3. IRS only call when you owe them money not when you over paid them.

Thank you so much to this website, and thank you everyone for contributing your experience to this website.
Please continue to post your experience so that others can benefit from this.

We received a call this morning from Julie Smith at 202-506-9726.  Saying I need to return a call or face a legal action against me.

So I called.  A woman answered a call (background noise was like a call center).  She stated IRS did audit our tax return for last seven years and we miscalculated 2009 and 2010 tax returns.  We need to pay.   It was hard to understand what she was saying (a credit card, driver license, etc).  She also said that IRS sent a letter but it was returned because no one was at home. I kept saying "Excuse me, I don't understand what you are talking about."   She was upset and told me that she was going to send a sheriff with an arrest warrant within 45 minutes.

I was very upset and told my husband about this call.  He told me it is a scam.  I checked this website. Thanks for the information, everyone!!

IF there was a problem, the IRS uses the POST OFFICE to deliver a letter.

Received the call on cell phone about 9 am Pacific Time, message left by "Robot Officer Julie Smith" from thr IRS, saying to call back or legal action will be taken.  Reported to the FTC and IRS.  I do not answer numbers I don't recognize, including local.  If it's important, leave a message.  Didn't believe this one because I don't owe taxes.

Received two calls from this number and a voice mail advising that either me or "my retained attorney need to return the call. The issue at hand is extremely sensitive. Call Loan Officer Julie Smith from the Internal Revenue Service or the hot line to their division 202.516.9726 or 202.516.9727. Don't disregard this message and do return the call before we take any legal allegation. Take care."

I returned the call and they hung up on me. Clearly a fraud. *Beware*

I'm getting far more spam/scam calls on my AT&T land line than all of my cell numbers combined.
And I have got NO spam/scam calls on Google Voice which is free. So obviously the technology is there. But  AT&T is not doing it, and they told me to pay extra for some lame blocker that could not block limited numbers.
I'm gonna [***] cancel the stupid AT&T land line.

It's not technology.  Its over-sharing.  I suspect your AT&T land line is in your local phone book.  You have used it to get shopping loyalty cards.  You've used it to enter contests.  You've used it on Craigs List or FreeCycle.  You haven't done that with your Google Voice number.

My only phone is a cell phone from Verizon.  I protect the number like its the gold in Fort Knox.  And I average less than 5 spam calls per year.

A half drunk man left a voicemail on my home number claiming he is calling from IRS!! He threatened that if we don't act on it, legal action will be taken. It's a bogus call for sure. I am blocking the number.
If he had the guts, he woudl see us in person and not hide behind a bogus number. We are in TX and are ready with guns.
    Howz that? 202-505-9726!!

I didn't even have the time to say "Hello" when a computerized voice started in on the IRS scam spiel.  I thought it was particularly funny that the computer said it's name was Julie!  She rattled off a phone number to call back, but I didn't have a pencil or pen handy.

As a side note, why don't they list "Scammer" as a call type?

I've gotten a few calls from them - automated alarming messages regarding 'legal action from the IRS', two today alone. File a complaint with the FTC via the DONOTCALL.GOV.
