Received a call from "Helen Ross", claiming to be with the US Treasury Department.  She said that I had been selected to receive a $5,000 grant because I paid my taxes on time and I didn't have a criminal record.  She gave me this # and an "Approval #"...said I had to call back immediately and speak to Gavin Johnson to get my $.  Sounds like a scam to me!

so far as i know it is... don't verify ANYTHING. not your birthday... where you bank... account number anything... be safe good luck.

i got the call last night around 8pm they said the same thing to me then he said for me to call this number to get my 5000 and they'ed western union me the money but i have to give a 200 dollar depoist to verify it was me and i'd recive the money back when i went to get the money to ensure it was me.

Just received the same call as above.  Said I was receiving a $5000 government grant and gave me an approval# and call back# and said to call back and speak to their supervisor.....  What a scamm!!!  I didn't call them back because this is too fishy and he didn't speak English!!

Got this call last month... I did the western union transfer for $200.00 they then said I did not use proper ID for the transfer and that I should send them the same amount again.

I asked that they return the transferred money first, they claimed they are not authorized to do so before I submit 'proper' verification.

STAY AWAY!!!

Nice American names, right!!!!!   They both sound like they are from middle east. There number is a cell phone out of Westchester, DC  go figure. Big time scammers!!!!!!!

I just got the same call also, a Mr. Kevin Johnson by way of India, wanted me to go to a western union and put down a $200.00 security deposit, to get $5,000.00.  The initial call was from a Rose 202-470-5899 when I call her back, the recording says the person you are trying reach is not available.  Don't waste your time with this scam!

I GOT A CALL FROM THEM TO BUT THEY TOLD ME TO SEND $237 AND I WILL GET RIGHT BACK A LOAN WITH THE $5000 AND COME TO THINIK OF IT HIS NAME WAS KEVIN JOHNSON SOME ONE NEED TO CALL THE COPS ON THEM GUYS

ya got the call too called mr johnson played his little game for a while then told him what a piece of [***] he was call him back so many times that from so many numbers to give him more crap of what i thaught of him mr johnson and his camel riding scum bag friends are someone you should hang up on do not give them any info about yourself

Today is 09/08/2010. I just received a call from 360-9235 (no area code provided). A woman who claimed to be Sharon John (who spoke with a strong India accent) said I was selected by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to receive a $5,000 grant. She gave me a code and said to call 202-621-0747. To make a long story short, I reported them to the U.S. Inspector General.

Be smart people!!! YES...it is a SCAM. Spread the word. Do not send any money. Do not give away your personal information. Report all fraud to the government.

They do this becuase people don't use common sense. They target poor people or those who are facing debts, students, single parents, elderly, and uneducated people. SPREAD the WORD! Forums like this is great!

We got the call from 202-657-6347 a nick richards referd by tracy jones out of washington,dc. US Department of resource and human something. Hard to understand him, strong accent. Said I was to receive a grant for 7,000.00 and that I needed to send him 170.00 and they would send it back along with the 7,000.00. I called western union and they said it was a scam. western union said if they are going to give you money they will not ask for any up front.

as i above they did the same thing to me to check backrounds be for acting on it they took my 200 dallors and i did not get nothin back they tried to get me for another 537 dallors i still didnt see my 5000 dallors back yet they rob me they also got another guy named mike habben supposed to work with irs i cant believe i fell for it .mike number is 281 671 2983

i recieved a call from tracy conformation # tr007. just call kevin johnson with this reference # and your 5000 will be released. that was on thursday 9/16/10. on friday when i called k3evin did not answer but called back asking if someone called from my number? then said how would you like too recieve the cash? western union, debit card or direct deposit ?   i inquired about all the procedures. 224 for western union, 199 for debit and no charge for direct deposit. I sai i never heard of thhat and why wouldn't it be the 5000 minus the deliver fee if it was legit? kevin said when you get it call us back and we will complete the transaction.
In the background i could here lots of general unrelated conversation. I knew it was a scam from the cost and the unprofessional feedback. PLEASE PUT A STOP TOO THESE PEOPLE ASAP!!!!!!!.

I recieved the same call on my cell phone today.  I thought it was a little weird and I told the lady that.  Of course, she claimed it was all leggit!  Her name was also Sharon Jones.  They only difference is that she did not tell me to ask for anyone specific when I called the number back or anything about putting forth any money ahead of time.  She had my address completely wrong.  As I was trying to understand her broken english, I stupidly gave her my correct address and birthday.  Should I be worried?  If so, who can I call to get this all straightened out???

I recieved a similar call on Friday from a woman with a thick Indian accent. I thought I would investigate the claim made. I called the number. When he explained that it would cost me around $200 to recieve the money, I know that this was SCAM. It it was a real progam, the fees would be substracted from the grant. I told him thanks, but I had no money to give him. He told me to call him back when I was ready. I don't think he got it. I was not going to send him my money to support his illegal activities.

I desided to google the number to see what was being said about 202-621-0747. I am grateful for whoever started this discussion. I pray that it will hope people not be taken.
