I just got a call from an accented woman referencing the IRS giving a case number and claiming it concerned a criminal law suit form the number  202-629-9309. It just seemed weird, so I checked the internet and here I am.  The message was left and saved in an email message if it would be helpful to anyone.

I received a computer call from this number with a terrible foreign accent that stated they were calling because we had a problem with the IRS and needed to return the call. The call ended with the words "If you do not call, good luck as you face the consequences" or words to that effect. Definitely was not a professional call from IRS......

We got the same message at home.  I work for a law firm and called the number back from my office.  The same woman with the foreign accent answered the phone and didn't even ask my name.  She just read the name on the caller ID and said "this is Mrs. _____?".  I said "No, there is their attorney, what can I help you with?".  She then said "This is an attorney?"  I said "Yes" and then she hung up.

She just called me too on July 16th.  My brother in law says this has happened to him also.  Such a scam.

Today I received the same call from 202-629-9309.  I did call the number back and it was answered "U.S. Treasury Department.  The person who answered had what appeared to be an Indian / Middle Eastern accent.  I got the same "pitch"; specifically my tax filing for 2012 was done incorrectly by my CPA.  I was told 3 letters were sent; 2 to my CPA and one to our home.  This person had my full name and home address - which is a bit scary...He then proceeded to tell me he needed the fax number of my attorney and within 30 minutes of hanging up the phone a Sheriff Deputy will be arriving at my home to arrest me, freeze my bank accounts, place a lean on my home, cancel my drivers license and put me in jail for 3 days.

Just block the number, don't waste your time

Called twice and said a lawsuit was filed!  Bull.

Hello:  I hate to tell U all but IRS does call you.  It happened to me and I thought it was not their policy, plus the caller spoke poor English and sounded Asian?   Asked for his supervisor and quickly learned it was an audit.  So never assume anything.  However, seeing all these comments about this phone # leads me to think it is hopefully scam.

I too got the same call. I called the number back but *67 first so my number would not show. No answer. This is the third call from these scammers today!

Just received a call, I have no law suits filed against me.  I would have been notified in writing not via phone call. This is a scam.

Received a call like everyone above.  Same type message.  I had one of these 5 months ago from Washington State.  It was a scam then, I sure this is the same.

Nope.  You're just one of many many as you can see.  I haven't been to DC since grade school....

Caller had a foreign accent. Said something about a case number. The call went to my answering machine. I picked up the receiver right after she said case number.  It was like she was reading from a script and didn't know what to do when I picked up the phone and said "who is this.." All I got in return was silence. Then she hung up.  This is one of the reasons I hardly ever answer the phone these days.  I'll just add this number to my call blocker.

Same experience /verbage today as others have noted previously....no reference to IRS, just vague "time sensitive...pending lawsuit " w /male caller /India accent.  Wish these scammers could be dealt with appropriately.

Get two calls from 202-629-9309, claim a case filed against me by IRS.   India accent male and female.  Obvious cheaters.

I got a call today - sounded recorded - she started talking the second I said hello - never took a breathe or anything.  I missed the first part of her act - then hung up.  At the end she did wish me luck "if I ignored her call and didn't return the call."  Lots of luck on that one lady.................

Terrible call from this number LEFT ON MY ANSWERING MACHINE~~~  Lady with deep voice, (accent) send "return this call or suffer the consequences"...(after saying something about legal action being taken against us)....you know, this is NOT FUNNY...there are so many people out here, innocently living our lives, and especially the elderly, DO NOT NEED THIS KIND OF THREAT OR FEAR coming at them!
