Received three calls in one day:  at 1:58, 2:26, and 2:47.  I did not answer any of them.  I have received calls from this number on previous days.

I got the same call 5 minutes ago and when i called back a foreign voice answers saying United States Treasury. When I asked which country they were calling for they hung up lol.

The person call today claiming I have criminal actions against me  the voice was if a India accent claim he was a lawyer

I got the same case number they sure not the brightest light bulbs out there if you know what I mean.

Just got a call (recorded message) from 202-629-9309 and they said they were from IRS and I was just added to a criminal lawsuit and that if they didn't hear from my Lawyer or myself, the only thing they could tell me is that they hope all goes well.

Threatening calls

Just got two phone calls 45 min apart saying I was under criminal investigation with the IRS and that I or my lawyer need to call to discuss the case.  It's an "urgent matter" and if I don't respond called wished me good luck.  SCAM!!! Had to block the number.  Foreign accent with poor grammar.

I have gotten this number twice with threats by the IRS.  I called after the second time I heard the recorded message wishing me luck if I didn't follow through. The guy that answered the phone was the same guy from the recording and when I told him I work for the government, he hung up.

I received this scam phone call today.. I REALLY want to call them back and tell them I work for the IRS and want to know what officer authorized the lawsuit and under who's authority...  but I don't work for the IRS, but that would be funny.

case #CH94436.  My lawyers (at http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report.shtml) were notified of the problem, so I'm sure they will handle it properly.

Foreign man, difficult to understand, same story as above, legal action, call back or have lawyer call back.

Message was on my machine that I or my lawyer must call immediately.  ---Had a foreign accent and told me that "time was of the essence".  I thought the call sounded mildly threatening.  I don't want them to call back.

Unfortunately they left their message with my mother...the good thing is that she cant hear well at all, so I got to listen to it. Have not yet followed through to 'play' with these people yet, but I will! With the day and age of long distance calling being over, I'm going to play with this one a while.  In fact I'm going to take it to work where a station full of other prank playing firefighters work and can conspire to mess with this group. This is actually the 1st scam that I have ran across that is or at least appears to originate within the U.S. If this is the case, they will be done. Ill let you all know how it goes...

Hi,  If you have received calls from this number you should notice that no name or reason for the call was given.  That is a dead giveaway that the caller has no authority.  An IRS agent ALWAYS says who they are and the reason for their call.  You can visit your local IRS office if you are concerned.

Same as everyone else, I love the line that "If I or my attorney don't return the call then all they can do is wish me luck as the situation unfolds!"  Like any legit business or gov't entity would leave such a vague threat.  And they did leave the same "Case" number as others have referenced.  something like CH94436, though he was hard to understand. I don't think he mentioned the IRS, but I have been audited before, and it does come in a letter, but without the threat.  And the IRS will always send a letter first if you owe them money with an opportunity to respond to the claim.  It's not even a believable scam.

Same here! Got the call apparently while I was on a plane from DC so I freaked out for a second!

IRS as in India's [***] Section...Funny how they demand stuff like this...Support your local terrorist organization.

All these 202 area code calls are showing the district of Columbia but they are most definitely from a foreign source.  The IRS never contacts you directly by phone.  These are illegal calls that the phone companies should never allow to go through to their subscribers.  Ignore these calls.  If you owe money to the IRS, they will contact you by mail first.

A call from the IRS, saying there was a criminal filing against me.  Sounded like a scam, so I did not call back.

I just received a call where he gave me his united states treasury number 11536. He said i was warranted for arrest and that my payment possibilities had been closed at this point because I hadn't reacted to the numerous letters sent from IRS. Since I haven't received any letters from the IRS, I suspected this was a scam, but went along to see what he would do - and he told me he may be able to hold off the arresting officer on his way if I spoke to his superior and was cooperative. I was told that I had miscalculated my tax back in 2011-2012 and was warranted for arrest for tax evasion of $2353,- When I said I would talk to my husband before giving out any information he told me I would be arrested this afternoon. I hung up, called the police and reported the scam to IRS at 1800 366 4484.
