Met someone the other day who works on one of these phone call banks...  (but not a scam)  I told her I have a call blocker to block these calls when I get them.  She said:  "We have hundreds of numbers that we can use".   A hopeless situation.

I agree with CTek.  I also have a Panasonic KG *.* phone which is a slightler older model but allows 250 call blocks. (I am jealous of his/her model because they can block an entire area code.)   The process is simple.  When one of the blocked calls tries, our phone rings one time.  I wish it wouldn't ring at all, but take satisfaction in knowing they can't get through to us.  It has become a game in our house.  The DoNotCall list is a national joke.  It simply doesn't work.  Our answering machine message states that if you appear as UNAVAILABLE OR PRIVATE CALLER or UNKNOWN CALLER we will not answer the phone.  If you are a friend or someone we do business with, then please leave a message.  In plain English, if we don't know who you are, and you need to keep it a secret, we Do Not Answer.

Telemarketers have found ways around the DNCL.  Lots and lots of 'disposable' cell phones that can't be traced, calls that are routed through another country and calls actually coming from another country.  They are relentless.  I believe there is a great market for more and more sophisticated home answering devices created by these very annoying and unconscionable telemarketers.  I have some great ideas for developers of such devices.  One would be the ability to press a forward button on your handset (if you know darned well you don't know a soul in, let's say, Tuscaloosa AL, you hit the forward button and their call goes to another number you have selected from other callers you have already blocked.  In other words, flip the telemarketer call to another telemarketer.  Same idea as getting several junk mail 'offers', taking the response for one (making sure you've torn away your name or other identifying information, and stuff it into a different junk mail envelope as a 'response'.  Let them pay the postage for more junk.

It's amazing the dumb people who "ask these scammers to be put on their do not call list" just telling them they will answer their phone when the scammer calls, lol, lol.

This company calls 2-3 times per day about knocking down our credit card interest rates.  We've asked them to quit calling and they still won't stop.  They are very rude and have hung up on us when we speak to a live person.

These crooks do not care for the DNC rules. As noted you should never respond to calls where  you do not recognize the name or number . If you do they know they have a live person and will sell your number to other crook telemarketer who will try to rob you of your money and personal information.

My mother is in her 90s and these calls are confusing to her.  I've added her to do-not-call lists and taken other steps to help her recognize unwanted calls on her phone.  She has never had a credit card in her life.  I wish someone would invent something to add to the phone that you could push a button and the caller's number would be locked or simply melt the phone.

I've been on the do-not-call registry for about 5 years, but about 3 years ago, I started getting calls from "credit card services". They call almost every day, sometimes more than once. The real problem is that they frequently change their number. I strongly suspect that they are based "off shore", and the numbers aren't even correct, but "spoofed". I finally got a smart phone so I could block their calls. There are 2 free apps called Who Are You and YouMail that word together to identify spam and block calls in different ways. Every time they change their number, I have to add it to the blocked list, but after the first time, my phone doesn't even ring when they call. The real irony is that I freed myself of all credit cards about 15 years ago!

If DNC lists can be purchased by ANYONE including fraudulent scamsters, we ALL need to contact our U.S. Representatives & Senators and demand legislation to STOP that practice. Proof of legitimate business--registration, copies of tax forms filed, etc.--should be required prior to providing bonafide phone numbers. FTC needs to charge a substantial fee for lists of good phone numbers. ALL FEES for purchased lists should be used to fight harrassment by telephone!
If we ALL contact Senate & Congressional Representatives, there may be hope for this growing nuisance to be contained! CALL YOUR LEGISLATORS!

FTC & FCC need to go after the SERVICE PROVIDERS for anyone using telephone & internet or wireless devices to harass citizens. Our Government needs to enact and enforce laws to hold telecommunications service providers as "accomplices" to crime.  We ALL need to contact our U.S. Representatives & Senators and demand legislation to STOP fraudulent scamsters from harassment by telephone!
If we ALL contact our Senate & Congressional Representatives and demand their involvement, there may be hope for containing this growing nuisance! CALL YOUR LEGISLATORS every time you get nuisance calls! Flood THEIR phone lines!
p.s. Sellers of "spoofing" software need to be shut down and punished with stiff fines &/or other deterrants (prison).

My, my sal,  you and Christopher both need to go to the FTC/DNC site and try  to register and subscribe to the list,   and then repost.  To qualify,  a business must be an American based business,  with Tax codes and proof of credentials, provide physical addresses,  phone numbers,  company principals,  SIC code,  Tax ID Number,  description of products and or services and fill out the forms of agreement and liabilities as well as all of the proprieties and protocols is doing business.  The fees average around $3500.00 per year for the subscription and updates.  The company goes into the FTC Data base.  If a violation occurs,  the FTC merely pulls their files.  10-16k per violation. The DNC does not assume responsibility for scammers and crooks or every unwanted caller reported.  Only those registered within the FTC/DNC data base.    Go to the site and read sometime.

Clearly, people are fed up with these scammers. But why should we let them cause us to lose our voice (by yelling at them) or temper? Some of us chose to get a call blocker so we won't be bothered by them and hopefully, they will be bored like the  Maytag repairman in those old TV commercials. Alternatively, we could have some fun with them and make every day they try to scam us a very, very miserable day for them. All we need to do is to pretend that we're actually giving out our credit card numbers (just make up some numbers that begin with a 4 or a 5). Then all of a sudden, start laughing at them. They're too used to people swearing at them, but when we laugh at them, they feel hurt because they think they have something I never thought they had in the first place (i.e., pride).

I'm amazed that it has taken this long for them to contact me...I'm usually closer to the top of the list.
Not to worry - we have had the ENTIRE 205 area code blocked for some months now.
Our phones do not ring and our home is not disturbed when a blocked area code or number calls in.
Currently, we have nearly 150 area codes blocked + hundreds of phone numbers.  We have found that blocking entire area codes is the way to go.  When you block an entire area code potentially, you block 6,000,000 to 8,000,000 phone numbers. Should you have friends or family in a blocked area code, simply add them to you "invite" list.  Problem solved!
Please purchase a call blocking phone or a device that can block entire area codes - these device work and they are inexpensive.

Nice to hear about someone being proactive. Not for everyone, but I have 999 out of the 1000 possible area codes blocked. Just my own is open. Then in my area code I have certain prefix blocked & as sure as Santa & his elves sing 'Silent Night', it is. Thanks for your post & yes, you have the right idea.

robocall from 205-409-0895 caller ID said "CONSUMER SVCS" Monday 12-15-14 @ 256 PM.

phone rang twice and I picked up and said "Hello." There was just dead air then a sound like 'plink'
and then a message said "Good Bye."

they must be either disconnecting if i do not answer after one ring or they are changing their approach with calling me
    because of my "SCAMMER AIRHORN."
