I got the same call last night from a man with an arab accent that told me I had been selected along with 20,000 others in my area to recieve $7,500 government grant because I was a good citizen and I had not declared Bankruptcy and that in order to receive this grant I had to go to western union. They knew my email, DOB, but had the wrong address. Then I was given a phone number to call and they would give me information I would need to collect my grant (a confirmation code). then they told me I had to go to the western union with 3 things a cell, $249 and a license. I called them back and asked how to verify it was a government office, and the woman got agitated with me immediately, and told me to check the website www.grants.gov
I looked up the phone number and numerous things popped up about scams, so here I am. Do not fall for it.
The number the they used was 206 657 4227

I just received the same phone call. The caller had such a thick accent and poor connection that I couldn't understand what he was saying for the first part of the call when he introduced himself and his company. Except after they tried to verify an old address, I told them to never call me again and hung up.

Well I got the call but twisted a little but the same outcome requested banking information and issued a confirmation and advised to call Ryan Smith.  No answer when called Mr Smith,,and James,David (Hibba) called me back stating I thought you were going to call Mr Smith I told him I had and no one was available to take my call. within 5 mintues Mr Smith called blah blah blah requested me to western union 210 dollars and the money would be in bank account in 15 mins. I hung up it was real tempting for me since  my job status is part time. I really could use a grant from Uncle Sam like the Banks got
the Airline Industry and any other Major corporation the government help with my tax dollars

Same exact story except they have been trying to get a hold of me for two tears. Im not originally from Troy Alabama, but I played like I was. The federal goverment would know my true permanent address. Man has a thick accent and asked me which 3 ways would I like the money sent. Of course by check I said. He said that the goverment grant I was getting would be 10,000 dollars. He later gave me this number to call 202 503 9966 with a confirmation code. I called and no one picked up. Why would a government phone not have an automated answering machine. So lets see if they will try and call back and try to get me to give up my account number, or to send money their way. Its a scam of course. Do not fall for it

I received the same call. A lady (with an Indian accent) said that I had been selected to receive 7,000 in government grants. She said it was because of a census in the area. All I had to do is give her my bank account #, or mastercard or visa. I said I wasn't interested and she hung up. Has to be a scam in my opinion.

i got a cal from a number 202-370-7640 asking for me to send $120 by western union. they said they would wire my money of $7000 to my account. I have the number the confirmation number but never wired the money and didnt give my account number out. But they said the $120 was for the international health for third world countries so that children could get better health care. Plausible but not falling for it. they told me i was selected by the government by my cell phone number and that I was one of the few that will receive the money.

Did you ever find out if anything happened with the info your wife gave out? I received a call too and they knew my name, address, and obviously my telephone number, but I didn't give out my social security number or bank info.

I just spoke to a similar person as described above. This individual had a heavy indian or pakestani accent. They gave me the same line about a $7000 grant. When I googled the grant this was the first thing that popped up. I just wanted to warn people that they have changed their system. They no longer ask for ssn or birthday but tell you to take $200 of your money to the nearest western union as a deposit and to call a number  - they gave me 202-657-5251. I believe this is an effort to steal my money and will be reporting it to the government

Well the number that my foreigner lady gave me was 202-621-0357.  The grant amount was $7000 and all I had to do to claim my grant money was to call that number and give them my ID no and they would do the rest.  SCAMMMMMMMMMMM!  Be careful!.  Remember the old saying that if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

I just got the same call stating I was going to receive a 7000.00 grant, but the number showed as unknown which was the big tip off for me. I listened to his speech and when he asked me for my account information i told him i didn't have an account and that he should just mail the check to me...the phone went silent. Ha, I got the last laugh on that one...

They must be getting smarter. I was only asked to verify my mailing address. Did not ask for SSN, DOB, or any banking account information. They just asked me how I would like to receive my grant money and I told them by a US Treasury Check. If this [***] clown is really a member of the Federal Government, he should have no problem getting that to me. He said that I should receive the check in 5 to 6 days (which that alone is BS because it takes 5 to 6 WEEKS for the Treasury department to even process the request and mail out the check). Maybe I will call him back over and over from different numbers and demand my check :) kind of a role reversal. Hey, on another note, if he truly IS with the federal government, then they would know that I am a U.S. Marine... And there is 3 things you don't screw a marine out of... Chow, Family time, and MONEY. This might be fun.

    Hello,

I just received a call from a guy with a thick accent stating I am to receive $7000 for filing my taxes on time, not filing for bankruptcy and a bunch of other B.S.  He then asked if I want it transferred into my account or if I want cash.  I of course said cash.  After a few minutes he told me to call 202-621-0667 and gave me a grant approval number.  I called the number to tell them how stupid they were thinking they could scam people but no one answered.  Total bummer I was looking forward to trying to make them feel bad about what they were doing.  Oh well, until next time!!

I received the same call and when I called Sean Swegger I was laughing when he told me I was selected for $7000 grant he asked why I was laughing. I asked him why I was chosen his response was "because you are poor" and he hung up lol.

The same happened to me today. A lady with Indian accent called her name is Kathy Young, and said I got a grant for $7,000 blahblahblah. She seemed so convincing, and asked what option I wanted to choose to redeem my money. She said I can give a checking or savings account number, a prepaid card or a credit card. I told her to send a check and she said they dont' do that anymore due to security issues. Then she said if I'm not comfortable giving an account number, I can go to Western Union money transfer and fill out a form there to retrieve the money, and all I have to do is call this 202 number and speak to an accounts manager named Richard Lee, and she gave me an approval id. I called my husband and told him the story, he called the 202 number and he said a man with an Indian accent picked up but I knew something was fishy. That's too bad it would nice to have the extra cash, but better not to fall for scams.
