    I received a call from this phone number with thick accent saying I have a computer that is connected to the internet and he found out from "the router services".... and indicated that my computer is affected with some virus and he will provide service to clean it up if I let him remotely access to my computer...!!!

    I am on an Do Not Call list but he refuse to recognize the do not call registry...??? Looks like a scam.

    This number called my place of employment, and claimed to be Attorney of State Code, name Kevin Rogers. Called 7 times my place of employment. They will not stop calling. Said they will have me arrested. I have been waiting. They are fraudelent and I have reported them to the attorney general and filed a complaint against them, they still call. Do not give them any information. They say I owe for a loan which I do not owe on any loans. Be Aware, this a scam. If anyone has any suggestions to make them stop please post..

    THEY ARE IDENTITY THIEVES!!!  Got a call from this number and others, but always the same thick accent and the same threats.  Said I took out a PD Loan in December 2008 from a company I never heard of.  I went thru this not 6 months ago with the same scammers.  Like I did before - just to make sure I called my banker who found no such 'deposit' from this or any other loan company.  They are now very threatening (even on voicemail - stupid as they are - I have kept them), saying "you will have your  attorney call; if you do NOT call, then you will suffer the unfolding of events to come and all I can say is, Good Luck."  Direct quote.  Even when told they have been reported, they persist.  Last time, they stopped, but not now - not even when challenged with undeniable proof they are criminals.  They change American sounding names with each call, but the last one REALLY ticked me off in that they used my disabled brother's name as the caller's name. The caller's slight hesitation when stating the name (as though he was reading off some script), told me the use of that name was intentional. Like I said, the name may change, but the voice is the same and the accent is a dead giveaway.

    Unlike before, they are now escalating the calls, the threats, and ignoring any mention of our reports to law enforcement and other entities.  But they have something they did NOT use before and this is cause for alarm.  Like mentioned above in another posting, they have somehow obtained SSNs (at least part of it) and refer to the last 4 to rattle you further.  That's enough for me and it now elevates them from harassing calls with their scams, into the world of criminals.  They are identity thieves.  I have taken all the steps in reporting to the various authorities, and all that is left is to step up the fraud alert with the CRAs and go ahead and freeze the credit.  That, and to call local law enforcement so I can obtain an affidavit/statement.  Other than a statement and the actual report with local law, there IS nothing more they can do.  Out of their jurisdiction, but surely should be within that of the FBI, FCC, and/or FTC (all of whom have been notified).
     
    So far there is this number but there are more used (I have 4 different contact numbers, but the calls usually come IN with the caller id unavailable or the number's location is Newark, NJ).  All use the same tone, context, names (Ron McCall, Michael Jones, Angel (male) McDonald, etc), and obviously off-shore, 'cloaked' numbers.  All have thick accents and so far all have been male.   Because of the information they have somehow obtained, I urge you to report them immediately and take action to protect your identity.  They must be shut down.   They have pissed off the wrong person at the wrong time and if they ARE terrorists?  Then they need to know I have declared war on THEM.  This stops NOW.

    I got the exact same message. If I don't have an attorney call, then all they can say is good luck.  I will report this to the Attorney General, but I think this same company calls me from various numbers.  It is creepy.

    they just called me and said that they are an identified microsoft business partner in tech support area.  they said that the last time i used the internet i downloaded malicious software.  I KNOW that is bull [***], but I played along.  
    he asked me to put in microsoft solution finder in the google search page and asked me what I saw, FLAG.  I told him that I get the same list he does on that search and what is it he wants me to see, he wouldn't answer FLAG.
    He kept telling me that he wanted to show me what was downloaded and exactly what the problem was.  I asked him for the name of his company and googled it, found some listings for scams.  I asked him for his phone number and googled that, also showed scams listed.
    I ended up telling him that I wasn't going to do anything and that this was a scam and he kept telling me that I am at great risk.  I told him he was a damn liar and that I was hanging up the phone

    I also got a call just now. A man with a thick MidEast accent (nothing wrong with that, by the way) who said (1) his company worked with Microsoft, (2) there were malicious programs downloaded onto my computer that I didn't even know about, (3) tried to get me to run a command (eventvwr) and tell me what popped up on my computer. (4) He was rude and insistent, which let me know he was NOT a professional service person trying to help a customer in need. He was frustrated when I would not follow along, and was evasive when I tried to find out more info. (5) The name that popped up on my caller ID with this number was "TRIKON"

    This guy's been pretty persistent, and has been calling for the last twenty minutes, all from different numbers.  He originally said his name was Marshall Reed and was working to settle a debt with Payday Fast Loan (the company doesn't exist as far as I can tell) and that I owed them $600.

    1- I'm from California, and the highest payday loans we can get out here are $250.

    2- When he called again from a different number, he said his name was Chris Stevens.  When I asked why he said he was Marshall Reed last time, he changed the subject and said that the call was very important and he was trying to help me.

    Well my phone calls didn't start until after I took out one of those online loans they called saying I was in default of my loan which I already paid off!  The guy  (he had thick middle eastern accent) says well prove that you paid it!  I said the proof is the money came out of my account if you don't have the money neither do I and I'm not paying it again!

    Oh by the way they even called one of my references threaten to put them in jail for not paying off my loan! Of course it was really strange they were asking my reference to give them my bank pin numbers so they would not go to jail. I called the loan company I was dealing and guess what a guy who answered the phone had a middle eastern accent I asked to speak to another agent but he insisted that  he could help me. The only way the scammers could have gotten my references number is by the information I supplied to them online to the company I took out my loan with.

    I emailed a letter of complaint to them and they responded saying that they didn't have guy by his name working for them and to check my phone number I called.

    I sent them a couple more emails and one of the managers called me on Tuesday, August 10, 2010  he left a message  and his extension number and when I called back the number the same guy  with the middle eastern accent answerd the phone I asked for the extension number an he asked me for my social security number .

    I told him I was returning a phone call I will just email him. Today is now August 11th the manager emailed me saying he left a message for me to call him back to resolve the problem I told him I had called him back on the number he left and the same guy anwsered the phone with the middle eastern accent so I will no longer do business with them! The bottom line is don't do anything with any loan companies Online! They insist in their email that this agent does not work for them and that they have secure server!  Sure its secure that's why me and my reference are being harrarased by these phone calls!

    Once again Do Not Do an Online Loan! If you do pay it off quick!!!!

    I replied to one of the comments it just appears these people are just annoying and some make threats I have filed complaints with the FTC, FCC and the FBI they all say its a scam and it appears there is nothing they can do about this problem. It appears these people have to have a "mole" on the inside to cell companies and loan companies to  get some of the information that they do have so it tends to rattle your nerves so whats the point of changing your phone number with things online now I'm sure its easier and easier for these cons and hackers to get the information they need! There should be a way to fight back legally! But right now all we can do is vent and tell each other our horror stories.

    I just recieved a call from 206-445-6568 . Same routine as on previous times. I have now put a block on the phone . Calls from that number will be blocked and never able to even show-up on my caller ID. I hope this blocking works. Good luck to you all. Mike

    I have recieved calls from this and two other companies stating they were calling with PD fast loans. Two claim they are with the exact same company and the other claims to be from a company I have never heard of. I told them to mail me proof that I owe the money and they have never called me back. They had my references, last four of my social, address, e-mail address, bank, and work information. I refused to verify any information. They threatened me with court, and somebody called one of my references and said they were an officer and I was going to jail.

    For at least the last four years, possibly longer, a group has been calling former payday loan applicants advising them that they have defrauded a bank and are now being sued for non-payment of a loan.  The callers will claim to be calling on behalf of an attorney's office (name varies), the Dept. of Law and Investigation, ACS, or other similar combinations below:

    United Legal Processing Division
    Midline Marketing
    Crime Monitoring Services
    Monetary Crime Division
    U.S. National Bank
    Attorney General’s Office (usually in California)
    American Legal Services
    Affidavit Consolidation Services (ACS)

    You will be threatened with arrest, a costly trial and possibly worse.  In no shape, way or form can you be arrested for non-payment on a consumer debt.  Do not believe these threats, as they are without merit and cannot be carried out in the manner they allege.  

    Who are they?

    In the past when pressed by law enforcement for an address, the callers have provided the following information:

    They have been previously fined over $1.3 million for various violations.  They have been known to use phone banks in India to make their calls, which more or less coincides with the difficult to understand accent many of us detect when we are contacted.

    On July 15th, 2010 a Public Awareness Bulletin was sent out by Missouri Information Analysis Center.  

    "..received reports from individuals in Ohio and Illinois reference suspicious telephone calls they received. In both instances, the callers are reporting that a voicemail is received from a man, with a Middle Eastern accent, identifying himself as an officer working with the Financial Crimes Unit.  The message indicates that the reason for the call concerns a loan made by the receiver or someone in the receiver's family. The voicemail requests that a return call be made and a telephone number is provided. When a return call is made, the caller is asked to provide personal identifying information such as their date of birth and social security number.

    Reports indicate that the calls are frequent and persistent and that they even threaten arrest or legal action if information or money is not provided. It appears that the individuals making these calls may have access to some records connecting individuals and their relatives.  Missouri does not have a Financial Crimes Unit and all indications are that this is a fictitious agency. If you receive a similar phone call, please be advised that it is a scam and please contact your local law enforcement agency or the Missouri Information Analysis Center at 866-362-6422."

    Bottom line:

    Do not supply the callers with any additional information.  Inform them you have reported them to law enforcement and hang up.  If you haven't already, go ahead and report the calls to local law enforcement, your state's Attorney General and beyond.  Look up the local Secret Service branch's information in your area and get in contact with an agent there.  

    If you ever applied for a cash advance online, your information is out there.  
    Possible sources for the breach of your privacy are:

    * The scammers obtained your information from Teletrack - a reporting agency used by many cash advance lenders to determine their risk lending to you.  The service is able to tell cash advance lenders if you have existing loans with other companies, for example.  Many state laws prohibit borrowers from having more than two cash advances out at the same time.

    * The scammers created their own fake payday loan application site.  People looking for a cash advance went to the site and applied, thus freely providing the scammers with their information for malicious use at a later time.  

    * The scammers were able to get into the database(s) of cash advance lenders - probable targets being Sonic Payday and Cashnet USA.  


    How to protect yourself:

    * Inform your employer.  You are likely getting calls at home and/or at work, so make sure your employer is aware the calls are part of a scam and to not take them seriously.  Advise the callers that they are no longer allowed to call you at work.  If they continue to call, document the date and time of the calls you received.  Save voice mails left if at all possible.  

    * Change your number(s).  For some this may not be an option, for others a one-time number change can be done free of charge.

    Be advised - any references you listed on your payday loan application will be contacted.  Let those people know that this is a scam, and they can disregard.

    * Use Google Voice.  Google Voice is a great replacement voice mail system for just about any phone number you use.  Messages can be transcribed and voice mail recordings can be saved as mp3 files.  

    Pro Tip - call the scammers with a Google Voice number before turning off your old phone numbers.  Make sure when you call you identify yourself so they can start up their script.  At any point after they have your information pulled up just hang up.  They will then start religiously calling your Google Voice number.  At this point, you are free to change your regular phone number(s) and enjoy not having these people ever call you again.  (And laugh at the fact these people are basically talking to a brick wall several times a day)

    The scammers change their numbers frequently.  Law enforcement used to think it was because the callers ran out of minutes on their prepaid wireless accounts or they were shuttered due to fraud, but now they understand it's simply to evade detection by savvy consumers online.  With the proliferation of VoIP, it's even easier for the crooks to stay a couple of steps ahead of law enforcement.  Below is just a sampling of the 30+ numbers that have been used in recent memory.

    So can they really do anything to you?

    It's not a simple yes or no answer.  Logic dictates that, if they really wanted to take you for a ride and drain your bank accounts, they already would have.  

    So, why haven't they?  

    Authorization.  

    Why do you think you are being called so much?  Perhaps it is because they like the sound of your voice?  No, they have to have your authorization to take any form of payment from you, period.  The callers know their audience, and that audience is typically a bunch of people that have applied for payday loans in the past.  Most of those people they call couldn't afford an attorney if they wanted one, and are so used to receiving collections calls that so long as they sound like a real collector, they will likely be perceived as one.

    Furthermore, they don't even really want to talk to your attorney - that just sounds official and scary enough.  A real attorney would take the callers to task and write them off as two-bit con artists.  The callers need you, in writing, to authorize payment against the fictitious debt they claim you owe.  Go ahead, ask them for proof you owe the debt - more commonly known as verification of debt.  See what they say.  A phone authorization carries very little weight, so if they have something signed by you on file, you are done for - and the callers know that.  That authorization is the only thing these callers are doing by the book, and for good reason.  If they just went all willy nilly and made an ACH debit from your checking account, without your written approval, you could in turn report the transaction as fraudulent to your financial institution.  In about 7-10 business days, you would get the funds returned to your account.  Then the scammers would be up against a bank and their team of lawyers and investigators.  

    Bottom line:

    If you haven't paid the callers a dime, don't.  If you planned on paying them to shut them up, just don't.  Remember - you are not being contacted by a legally licensed, ethically owned and operated collector.  Read up on the FDCPA - http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre27.pdf - and know your rights.
