After reading many comments on this blog, I recalled many conversations that I had with a friend of mine who used to work for GDS. He quit his job at GDS because he was told to do many things that were illegal and unjust.
First, my friend has a business degree, a JD and an LLM from a very good law school. He wanted to work for GDS because it was a publishing company and with a hope that one day he would be working for their legal department.
Second, while he was working for GDS, he was told to lie about GDS, its publications and the numbers of published copies distributed in the market. Because he had remembered the rules of ethics from the law school and had worked for many litigations, he quit his job thinking that he is not doing the right thing.
Finally, my law office is close to GDS’s old office in New York, so my friend and I used to meet for lunch often. He told me about these unethical practices during our lunch meetings.  He also thought that there could be some litigations against GDS if it continues to do such illegal marketing. Based on what he told me, I noticed that GDS might be liable to some because the law protects the victims.

Clearly you are a thinker and not a doer, typical of the kind of person who would fail miserably in any sales environment, I am not a current employee of GDS but I came across this thread and made for quite interesting reading.

The type of person who works for a company like GDS and succeeds is the kind of person who can pick up a phone and speak to a decision maker in any company, no matter who and get the information across.

THE SAME REASON THAT YOU WOULD FIND IT UNTHINKABLE TO SPEAK TO SOMEONE AT SAUDI ARMACO IS THE SAME REASON WHY THE EMPLOYEES AT GDS HAVE TO ASSUME ALIAS JOB TITLES...OTHERWISE THEY WOULD NOT WRITE ANY BUSINESS!!!

Think of yourself as a secretary of Goldman Sachs....Now some "20 something year old sales guy" working for a legitamate publishing company wants to speak to your boss, who is a decision maker to put Goldman Sachs in their publication.what would you say? You'd say, sorry, he is busy or in a meeting or some [***] like that. As much as I do not condone their tactics, it is necessary to get anywhere in this harsh competitive business world, Kill or be eating alive!

I think the point being made is not about the sales staff lying to get someone on the phone and ram down their throat a web of lies as do sales execs at GDS..

BTW I genuinely hand on heart work in a very good sales based role for which I believe I am more than capable of what makes a good sales person(BTW you are obviously somebody from GDS, you are not sly)

**And for the record, a good salesman is not somebody that tells the prospect what is good for them (as do most scripted GDS calls), nor do they let the prospect tell them what they need as the prospect may be wrong!! A genuinely good sales professional will try and work honestly to identify the customers needs from an unselfish stance, once the needs have been identified the prospect can then close business. Good sales people are integral, they don't ram pitches, or as you eligantly put it, 'convey a messages' to decision makers in the way you mean. Oh to hell with it, not worht explaing why I am right as you will never accept it**

The point being made, is very simply, and I know even simple things are hard for people at GDS to understand, but very simply, if the CEO of Saudi Aramco knew that his name was being used in the way it is at GDS to scam companies out of money on false pretences, if he knoew he had been duped into an interview with a company that prints bogus magazines (and before you say it, NO the magazines do not go out, if they do they do so in extremely small numbers.. How the [***] else could a company afford to run 50 magazines annually and courier deliver them to 40,000 people?? Impossible on a 30m turnover, oh yeah, a good lie Tom Ports uses on this is that it is a 'contribution' as the magazine is funded by the GCC... Hmmm okay, shall we ask them and see what they say???? Your lies are worthless now, you've been sussed!

Going back to the point, AGAIN haha.. If the CEO of Saudi Aramco knew what he leant his name to, and what was going on, he would squash GDS out of existence. All I am saying, is maybe we should let him know

You don't need to be unethical and immoral to be successful. But it certainly is easier.

And if GDS wants to make a buck the easy way, by lying, cheating, impersonating others, misusing names, etc. THEN SO BE IT. But, GDS, stop pretending like what you're doing isn't wrong. The "ends justify the means" argument doesn't hold up against today's moral standards. Especially when people get screwed along the way. Eventually they will end up screwing the wrong person who will take it to the next level. In the meantime, enjoy the show.

One thing they are good at, is selling themselves on the idea that what they're doing is normal business practice.

PS. I'm in sales, I'm successful, No problem calling C-level execs. I don't lie to get people on the phone,I don't lie in my pitch and I still managed to clear a quarter million dollars this year... I know... crazy right?

GDS employees, you can argue all you want on this page to support your unethical tactics and brag about all the money you make. But, any real successful sales executive who stumbles across this blog(not working for some scam operation) will easily be able to decipher fact from fiction. Because you are not a sales executive, you're a joke, a fraud... might as well accept it

I can't for the day when GDS crumbles, so deserved on so many levels

Another worker fired this week because he couldn't be brainwashed. Place is a [***] scam. The pay sucks and the only ones that benefit are the sd's and managers on good teams. Absolutely no future there. Pls some real company hire me, I will gladly leave. Everything on this blog is true. You think in the beginning that you have this good job and eventually it all spirals down. Unless your one of the exceptional few you WILL NOT make a lot of money

People please, life is precious and you are wasting it here. GDS is a company like many others that may use underhand techniques to get the job done. If multinations have cash to throw at marketing and advertising, why shouldnt gds take it, rather then then next [***]?
I have worked (and thats past tense for those of you who seem to struggle with discourse) at GDS in the uk for enough time to know what does and doesnt go on. I am eduacted to a high standard, and know my own mind.
It is a job, a job that can be 9-5 despite what some may say, i guess its how easily you are manipulated that reflects your hours. Inevitably you will come across the richard stirks in the world wherever you work. there is always one, hes always loud, has that swagger and it may seem he always wins. But have faith, the mass hate generated by these blogs etc can be tuned into a force that will do nothing! go back to you rlives, stop wasting your time and effort.
GDS isw a fun place to work and you can earn decent cash on sales, yes you mqay have to detach yourself from any standards and ethics u previously held, but it is a recession after all.
Now lets focus on people who will spread negativity wherever they go. Julia Mackenzie = ginger, liar, infected, coke fiend with a soft spot for bendin over, despite her many rejections, soon to reappear in KL. She will be the downfall of this company, and willtake with her anyone who shares the same rolled up note. Watch your back.
Also Mr Large is an innocent party here, and slander is not an attractive attribute.
Spencer is a nice guy, maybe just on the surface, but welcome to the real world where people lie on linkedin, on websites and blogs about who they are, where they came from, and just what they seek to gain - let that be a lesson for gds employees past and present. Just because your title says it, doesnt mean you are!

you make avery good case, with one problem, there actually is a rebecca davis working for GDS in the uk. When gds staff read these comments, and then look across the office at her, it kinda takes the wind out of the lessons they could be learning here!

you think in a place where people use fake names, when someone calls asking for someone by there real name, suspicion arises and you wont get put through.

IT EXISTS, and if you sign up to advertise there you will recieve a copy, or 2 as they have a few lurking in the offices. however 100 thousand richest (insert nationality/region) on a global basis etc! really?!! im sure supermans cape exists, but i doubt it makes him fly!

For all people in England or USA you can make an anonomous complaint to the UK police here.

Keep the complaint as factual as possible and do not be dereogatory, this is what we have been informed to do in the frst instance if we want to make a complaint without revealing our identity.

Look for the online complaint form and fill in all the details you are aware of. However, the very last box 'anything else we should know' is where you should give as much information on the company as possible.

The Police actually have a team who are based in the same office block in Cardiff!

The great thing about this blog is not the things angry ex employees or former clients are saying, it's what current GDS employees say.

If they were smart, on any level, they would avoid this blog all together. Then at least they could fall back on the excuse that it's just a bunch of "disgruntled ex-employees".

Instead, they insist on making ridiculous, crude, rude, and inappropriate comments on here.

Thank you GDS employees for giving everyone a clear idea about the type of people employed at GDS. The employees are representative of the organization after all.

In addition, if all the other people on here are angry ex-employees, It also lends to the idea that they will hire anyone off the street. Some of the things said on here a purely disgraceful.

In conclusion, it's always smart to be clear about who you are working with. And there is plenty of posts on here by the people selling the products and the people behind the products at GDS. Enough to give you a good idea about who you might be trusting with your tightly guarded marketing budgets.

I work at Greggs not GDS. And if you read your post back objectivly then you will spot a number of flaws in your logic... But then again you will already know that cause you seem like a sharp guy...

You can help by calling the new York District Attorneys Office at 212-335-8900 the case number to complain is 22287. They are conducting an investigation in GDS. Please provide any emails, screenshots from their websites, and any other evidence you may have. I urge you all to call.

Well then, please elaborate...

My name is all I have to say on the matter.....Not about this solid company GDS who's employees are busy working hard and taking home 6 figure incomes but about the idiots who used to work there who are now unemployed and spend their long bitter days trying to drap the reputation of this company in the dirt.

Furthermore, it is not just incompetent ex employees, I know that this is also being added to by some of our competitors, Kuddos to you guys, but try as you may, GDS stands tall and will continue to expand and grow!!
