    GDS #Winning
There are so many failed sales people on here blaming everyone but themselves for not making it at GDS. I hear all the noise, but that's all it is. If it were true GDS would be shut down, GDS would be investigated & companies wouldn't be working with them on a consistent basis.

All the failed sales staff on here are just making up excuses cause they weren't good enough; and some of the veteran failures keep harping on about magazine circulation - firstly, where is your proof? Secondly, GDS don't do publications, so even if it were true it's old news; and even if it were true is a company not allowed to change?

Any perspective companies looking for info on GDS ask yourself what sort of person comes on a site like this and moans about a company they got sacked from? Then once you have figured out that person, read the BS posted on here and ask; where is the evidence? If you are a 'decision maker' then you have achieved that position by making educated decisions - make an educated decision here and realize that 99% of what you are seeing on here is bitter ex-employees venting their frustration at failing.

As for perspective job applicants; sales may or may not be for you. But if you can't hack being told you aren't good enough then don't apply because not everyone is good at sales (look at the bitter failures on here - do you really want to be like them?).

Like I said last weeks global figures were £1,390,000. In a week. So all the BS from all the failed sales-people on here is just noise.

Am I Oliver Smart, am I Kash Hassan, am I Rob Davies, am I Oliver Stebbings, am I Jim Craven, am I Alex Sobil... am I Spencer Green? Doesn't matter...

Classic. Why would any journalist want to publish a sales script? Sales scripts are all over the internet... Some of the people on here are dense as. When will you losers realise it's a non-story to anyone apart from yourselves?

It's funny, but it's also quite sad... especially when it only seems to be about 2 or 3 people who actually can't move on.

    Dear all,

Due to the large number of false and over-exaggerated job titles being used by staff in communication with prospects and through emails and social media, linked in and on the phone etc, we are launching a bespoke corporate policy that should be adhered to with no exceptions.

Right now, the number of senior directors, VP’s etc supposedly working for GDS is more than GE and is ridiculous and discredits GDS especially when it is pretty clear onsite at summits that job titles are exaggerated.

All job titles for all staff must follow the below guidelines and there will be quality control done with all staff email signatures by the IT Department this week as well as random checks on all linked in accounts.

GDS actual job title                                         Official Job title communicated to clients and delegates
WWSD                                                                  VP Global Sales / WWSD
    SD -                                                                        VP 'region’ Sales
Sales manager                                                   Director of 'industry of event' +’Region’ e.g. Director Oil and Gas Africa
Sales submanager                                           Head of ‘industry of event’ + ‘Region’ e.g. Head of Oil and Gas Africa
Senior Sales Executive                                   Senior Project Executive
    Sales Executive                                                 Project Executive
VP Accounts (ROB/NICK)                              Vice President Strategic Accounts (REGION)
Director Accounts (drew c, megan)          Director Strategic Accounts (REGION)
Accounts managers (debs, ken, jan etc)                Head of Strategic Accounts (INDUSTRY) e.g Head of Strategic Accounts – Financial Services
Fraser and delegate managers                   Delegate Director
Sales Sub Manager                                          Head of ‘region of summit’ Sales
    Sales executives                                               Senior Sales Executive

    Delegates:
Head of delegates (Fraser, JRO, Megan)  : Summits Delegation Director – ‘Region’
Submanagers : (Jen, Matt, Ella) Delegate Director
Salespeople :  (Summit Name) Delegate Manager

Actinga dn sounding like a boss is an encouraging feature of any GDS sales executive and it is encouraged, however this is really important so we increase credibility in the market and clients feel comfortable and we are bring honest with them.

These are now standard for all summit guides, all business cards, all email addresses, all linked in profiles – please change your job title on all sites, emails etc by close of business today.

    Many Thanks,

    Ollie

This is the email I was talking about a few months ago, I could kiss you for uploading it!

And smoker you say this is all fun and games for GDS, well I posted a photo on Imageshack of a script that I had in my posession and then received a threatening phonecall from the GDS GM for Australia, and let's just say the conversation and aftertaste of the conversation was not fun for anybody.

In fact the violation of my privacy after I had left GDS has spurred me on more so than I usualy would have been and has actually increased my activity on here ;)

I haven't gotton to the anger stage that Capslock guy is at, but after that phonecall I can say I hate GDS whereas after I had left I merely disliked them.

So this is an old, un-dated email asking staff to refrain from using over-exaggerated job titles, right?

So the hierarchy of GDS are getting their house in order because the staff took liberties when they were allowed to give themselves their own job title?

I also see the 'importance of honesty' with clients being stressed.

So thanks for posting this; it helps to show that the management of GDS value honesty and have realised the error of being too liberal in letting their staff create their own job titles.

Well done. Anyone with half a brain can see this is a positive email for GDS.

WHAT ABOUT THIS replies to (E)x-GDS
EXPLAIN HOW THIS MAKES GDS LOOK SO PROFESSIONAL??? NO COMMENT ON THI >>>>RIGHT???0----DO NOT  DO BUSINESS WITH GDS

"I haven't done a deal without obtaining a cell phone number.  Most direct route into the decision maker at any time. Be creativeno one way to obtain cell numbers is the same. Stick with what works pertaining to the guide lines......."

"Pose a an individual from a partnering company- to do this effectivley, go onto the company's website, look for the tab :technology partners" and pick one of the larger ones. Now go to that company's website and select a C level person to pose as. Now call the company you want to obtain the number for, call a receptionist of that person and give them the following story.... You have a breakfast meeting with so-and-so here in NYC, the meeting was at 11;30 and it is now 11:50. You have been waiting here for him for over 20 minutes. This meeting was scheduled by your assistant who is now on maternity leave, and you need to reach the person immidiatley. The key here is to sound convincing, make it real..as if this is actually happening to you.

Other ways they teach yu is to pretend you work for the company and have "lost your blackberry" and need to contact so and so RIGHT NOW. And if that does not work, call offices all over the world until you get what you want.

What about all the other things that violate your TOS - surely the posting of GDS Script & Training Material is unlawful replication of intellectual property? After all the contract GDS Employees sign prevent them from replicating such materials.

And I will await the barrage of abuse headed my way - however the point still remains; whether it is addressed by the moderators is another matter I suppose.

    Typical lines
The following are typical lines you will hear when contacted by GDS, and how you can defend yourself against the lies they will tell you. It's also worth noting that they rarely use GDS as the name of the company they are calling from. More than likely it will be NextGen something or the CIO/CFO/FST Group.

    1. I'm calling you on a direct recommendation from ........
(Ask who the person is, and if you can contact them before you continue with the conversation)

    2. Hello this is _________, Executive Director, (or VP) of blah blah blah
(Probe a little.....Director huh? Where did you study? What year did you graduate? where did you work prior)

    3. I sit on an advisory panel of blah blah blah
(Ask to speak to the other people on the panel to verify the persons identity)

    4. One key area my delegates have highlighted for investment is blah blah blah
(Have them elaborate, It's your field, you will quickly find they just took a press release for your company and are throwing your words at you as a hook)

    5. We are only inviting 20 solution providers versus 65 delegates......
(BULL...they will invite as many suckers as will pay without regard for ratios)

    6. The sponsorship I had in mind for you is a Silver sponsorship, costs 59k US....
(WRONG, they have the same package in mind for everyone, truth be told, you can negotiate this down to about 20k with very little effort)

    7. Just to let you know the timelines I am working towards.....I have booked 18 of 20 spots......Time is not on my side blah blah blah
(Think of it this way, if they did have 18 booked, and they are "really excited" to have a company like yours on board, why the hell are they calling you in the 11th hour? Is it because your company is an after thought? Are they lying? Either way, it should give you pause)

    8. I need to send out a reservation for for you to sign.....
    (IT'S A CONTRACT......CALL IT A CONTRACT!!!)

    9. What is the exact decision making process to get you involved in something like this?
(The whole point of this question is to circumvent you, disregard your opinion and requests and CALL YOUR BOSS, If you are the boss, then they want to waste more time of your management team by pitching them)

Bottom Line: GDS does put on events, and people do show up to them, with that said; The delegation is lied to in order to get their attendance, and they usually are not there to buy anything. You must question everything they say. Lying is the company norm, and they will make up things on the fly to hook you. I am not saying not to do business with them, if you choose to do so, HOLD THEIR FEET TO THE FIRE, you will quickly see how the whole ball of lies unravels.

    Confused!!
I am getting confused with these postings.  I am due to go for interview with GDS cos I thought they seemed like a good company to work for and progress in, but from what I can see I am wrong.
I thought that what they were offering was too good to be true, just said it today, but I am confused as to whether it is a good company to work for or not!  One posting said that if you just wanted to earn money then go for it, another said that principles and ethics were being compromised.
    What does anyone think?

It's resume suicide and I promise you, that you will regret it..Did they give you a shady job offer via email???? Consider Carefuly replies to Confused!!
It sounds too good to be true because it is. I was there for well over a year (which is a veteran by GDS standards) Here's what you need to know:

It can be a lot of fun, the people there party.....A LOT. If you are just out of college, you might find it fun for a little while. And after all, they do pay a base salary that's not terrible, not good either. If it's your first job out of college, consider NOT putting it on your resume as it will look like you were just taking your time after school. As someone mentioned above, it is resume suicide. Think about this, YOU FOUND this site quite easily. Try this, in a Google search bar type in GDS and see what one of the top five searches is, I can almost guarantee its "GDS Scam" which catches ones eye quickly. Your perspective employers will not know GDS and do this same search and see that "you have been scamming people" for a living.

If you do take it and want to make money, READ THIS PART VERY CAREFULLY: You WILL have to lie to people in order to make any real money. You WILL have to cold call C-level execs and convince them you are something you are not. You WILL have to spend a good 10 hours a week of your own time finding leads. And regardless of how much time you spend on leads, there is at least 10 other people within the company calling those exact same people.

Be leery, be very very leery.

Well my advice to any potential customers out there, if you have never heard of an event or publication then chances are neither have your clients.

Lets face it, people working there know the score, and they earn some decent coin, however its not a career and once you are earning the big bucks it is hard to go work 9to5 for £25k... I totally understand the allure and each to their own.

But, what gets me is the attitude, the disrespect and the disloyalty among all levels of employees.

Our company has had very little to do with them over the years which you got to be thankful for, one thing we did see is that one of the IT staff there is ripping them off, I wont go into to much details, but this individuals name was mentioned in a recent post and to be honest we had thought he left last year.

The company I work for has had a lot of dealings with them in the past they have since severed the relationship with them, a lot of it was down to the dealings with that guy and the lack of them paying on time (ever), the irony can not be missed by the fact that it was him that pointed out this site to us.

I guess if you are going to act like the way people here are saying then I no longer feel sorry for them being screwed over by their own staff.

Everyone I know in Bristol and even from UNI know about this site now, its beyond belief that they have not done a name change yet. I can also say that GDS staff are HATED across the City therefore none of what is being claimed here comes as a surprise.  My ex-bf said that the Evening Post had a big Warning Sign up about them in the accounts office.

Ah, well. Good Luck to them, they surely need it.

On a serious note I hear that if you apply for a sales job with them they expect you to 'sell'. Can you believe that? And if you dont' sell they get rid of you!

I also hear that even though their rebook rate for 2010 on Summits was around the 80% mark each event was actually fake. These executives and delegates didn't actually realise that when they were down on site to having meetings that in fact it was all just lies - they thought it was real, but GDS must have drugged them! Can you believe that? And yet 80% of them still rebooked for the next fake event!

I even hear that they managed to trick Accenture into being their events partner for 2011. Can you believe that? Accenture did a lot of research into the company, the events and spoke with GDS clients and were still fooled, a huge company like Accenture!
