- X-GDS replies to PslutskyDude, is your name really Pierre Slutsky?? That's hilarious!!!
- Current Employee replies to GDS employeeWrong! There is only one publication that was BPA audited, it was for the pharmaceutical industry. We create magazines or pubs from general interest, in other words what ever is sell-able to the public. The tactics employed at GDS are worst than any other boiler room place I ever heard (most of my friends are in sales).
We call decision makers or "cheese" to their cellphones, work phones or home phones. It doesn't matter, as long as you get him or her on the phone. Than we pitch them on a article by some other big wig in their sector (which we don't even him booked) discussing whatever his or her company focuses on. We get that information from the About Us section on their site. That's why we spend our nights and weekends getting leads off the internet. So when we call we sound educated about their company and this article that supposedly is a spot-on match to what they're currently doing or focusing.
We sell this "article" to everyone. It doesn't matter that we have more than one buyer. Even though we sell as "exclusive". In addition, we promise fed-ex delivery to the 75-80K C-level executives. That is a big B.S. They couldn't afford it.
I will add more to this. By the way, everyone is required to take break at mandatory time, not on your own. Like a normal company usually allows its employees. - NicK D| 1 replyGDS is not a good place to work for. You have to get your own leads, so your evenings and weekends are spent getting leads. Secondly, the money is okay, not great. I sold adverts and was promised a management opening. I quit before the promotion. I made about 90K, not bad. But I had to endure the micromanagement of the Sobels, Davis', Smarts and the other managers.
You have to be at the office by 8:15, you start pitching at 8:30am. First break for the entire company is at 10am (for 10mins), lunch at 12pm-1pm for the entire company and 2nd break at 3:30pm. You get to go home at 5pm. But you stand on your feet the whole time even when you're not pitching. At night, if you don't have enough leads: you lead source.
Supposedly, we go out to the C-level executives in whatever industry we are pitching. For instance, utilities, we go out to all 80,000 C-level executives in that industry. The odd thing is NOT ONE of them ever heard of this great pub, hmm. Makes you think. In addition, we send this great publication via Fed Ex to 80,000 individuals. Mathematically, non-profitable with money these pub raise, they average anywhere between 200,000USD to 300,000 USD.
They have a very aggressive sales tactics which is good, if you're selling an actual product the meets its promises.
I left after my year, I needed something for my resume. At times, I don't like the fact that I sold a fairy tale to these top level executives.
You should work here ONLY as last resort. None of there pubs go out to whom they say. They just go out at their events and small amount via mail, about100-300. A far cry of 80,000. If you want more info, I'd be more than happy to talk. I already reached out to DA's office in NY.- Caller: GDS Publishing

- JJ replies to DMI have the same issue. what are you doing about it?
- xgds replies to Bunty_Schroeder| 1 replybunty, did you spend anytine in oz? the name rings a bell
- Bunty_Schroeder replies to xgdsNo hun. I only ever worked out of the Bristol office i'm afraid!
- Matt M replies to bex davies| 1 replyYour full of it, Bex. Everyone lead source, that's how you get the leads. In addition, when you lead source you highlight parts in the "About Us" section of the prospecting company site.
You than modify the pitch to that company's specialty. So it sounds that you are going out to other companies that they are hoping to reach for business.
It must not be GDS you are working for. I'm a current employee (at lunch, because I'm not allow to use the computer otherwise) and EVERYONE lead source. Unless you are manager or a sales director. - Matt M replies to BEX DAVIES| 1 replyAgain, Bex. Only ONE (1) pub was audited. That was the pharmaceutical pub, Frodo was the team leader for that one before he got promoted to the UK.
Rob Davis stop pretending to be Bex. Or which ever current employee is passing of as Bex. I'm a current employee as well. So We don't have anyone name Bex here. - Former Employee replies to DMWorked for 100 Club 2 yrs ago. All I know is that the publication didn't go out to anyone except the advertisers, Maybe things have changed since then. I would say let them try and sue you, I doubt they would actually go through with it being that they are selling an idea rather then a real product that reaches a real audience. Make them prove they have a legitimate audience this magazine claims to have. Good Luck
- Victoria replies to LLThey create segments to personalize it. Example: Do a piece on Top 10 Golf Resorts, then contact all the best golf resorts and tell them they were handpicked to be in their article. Then as son as they have enough golf advertisers in the golf section they throw a piece together. Then the advertisers receive a copy with their ad nicely placed with the article, Top 10 Golf Resorts. Sounds great right? Keep in mind the magazine only gets sent out to those who have paid for ad space. There is no circulation=there is no readership
Well thought out scam...SAVE YOUR AD DOLLARS - Dave

- Call me a quitter but I'm happyI used to work at GDS in NYC for about 3 months. They make the training week seem fun. Once you start working and get on the phones its stressful but still exciting. After being there for a while you come to realize everyone is talking [***] about everyone else, some people are on drugs and some are running to the White Hourse bar around the block during breaks for a shot(I cant say I haven't done the last one lol) All in all its not a very serious job. Its fun if your on a good team and your with good people. But you realize after a while that the whole thing is a big scam and that your spending hours on your feet at work calling people because "motion creates emotion" ugh! In reality your a scheeming glorified telemarketer. Then you think once you get home you can relax but you have to lead source for hoursss! all in all the job sucked. After the fun part wore off I was miserable, I had gotten 3 deals and my manager loved me but the trip into the city and the long hours lead sourcing at night were too much and I left. I would recommend it as a place to work.
- Call me a quitter but I'm happy| 1 replyHaha that video is HILARIOUS!! so much BS in there its really remarkable
- Harry replies to Call me a quitter but I'm happy60% of the people in that clip don't work there anymore and those allowed to speak are the brainwashed golden boys and girls- hardly a true representation!
- Funny.Good old days? Was that when he was at GDS in his first week and got so off his face on coke he had to be admitted into hospital? He's a silly little boy who cheats on his GF, lies to "friends" and thinks he's a big cheese.
Just another wannabe. He's unemployable and thats why the fugly runt stays at GDS brown nosing Spencer Green. Richard Stirk thinks he's Gordon Gecko from the movie Wall Street! The guy is hilariously pathetic. These people think they are successful but all live it [***] shared houses with deadbeat friends buying their meal for one in Marks and Spencer's on the way home.
They live the high life coiffing overpriced champagne in Bristols [***] "Look at me" bars, blasting £100's of cut-coke up their noses and then crawl back home to their £450PCM hell hole. It's like Boiler Room with an uglier cast.
Well done, you've arrived. - CBTLDI just want to say that I am a HUGE fan of this site. It is seriously one of my favorite blogs and I check back every so often for a hearty chuckle. I was in the training program for a week a few years ago and left before it was over on Friday. If you have half a brain you realized what is what by Day 2 of the training schedule. While the crazy culture of the place intrigued me & certainly would have made for some fun times as evident from the midday jaunt the whole office went on to get smashed at a bar for some "team building". Reflecting on it from afar it would have been a great social experiment (I could see how a book and/or movie could easily be made about the place). Sadly, I couldn't bring myself to work there. Finding this site a few months ago was an absolute gem as I recognize the names of some of the managers. Great stuff, everyone please keep posting. Employees, former employees, disgruntled former employees, people who were scammed. Everyone. This is gold…all 15 pages of it. Thanks
- omg!| 1 replywent for an interview today, was so excited to start and now feel quite disappointed because I really need the money and was looking forward to the challenge.
But do I want to waiste my time working for a company that I might not even be proud to have on my resume?
Is the money anything like what they say it is or is it all just a ploy to get you in, sounds to me like they're taking in everyone who comes in for the interviews! - Bunty_Shroeder| 1 replyIt really depends on how old you are. If you are over 25 then I would steer clear but if you are young and fresh out of school/uni give it a try. It will be a laugh but not really a career choice.
Okay for a bit of cash for now but just for now, don't get sucked in for too long.
Good luck, - OMG! replies to Bunty_ShroederI'm 26 next year and i'm not about to throw myself into this playground, its a career I'm looking for ...I feel a bit of a fool but I'm so glad I came across this site, thanks to a friend who advised me I should do my own research and not just read the links I was e-mailed prior to my interview!!!
