I just received a call, indicating that my computer is experiencing problems and that I should press 1 on my telephone.  I don't know the name of the company, if there is one, who called, but the voice was likely computer generated.  The number is 204-307-6762.  I understand that it came from Dalas, Texas.

It's a SCAM.  Call actually comes from India irrespective of the area code.  DO NOT ANSWER or PUSH ANY BUTTONS.

Received a call stating they were computer engineers on my cell phone. Someone called the other day and I told him it was a scam, lose my number and as I'm hanging up he says Oh F$$$ck...now they are calling again on my cell!!! Didn't he learn a lesson! Now that I've reported the number I know the calls will stop.

This person whom I will refer to as the "Microsoft Jerk" got me a few weeks ago.  He had been calling my home and harassing a family member with his BS spiel that they were getting message from my computer.  She kept telling him I was not having any issues.  Reference point....a year ago when I was having a Microsoft problem with my old computer I did do service business with Microsoft.  However, that computer went by by when XP was no longer being supported.   Now, comes this JERK and some how he has info on this service call that I had.  Tells me he is the one who helped me.  This is after I had ranted that I did not need any service as I had a new computer....he persisted and gave me the story about getting signals and I must let them in to fix as I had been hacked by the Russians.  Admitting being dumb....because of his reference to the real call with Microsoft....I let him in.  Well the disaster started...he started showing me all these so-called invasions etc.  Then turns me over to the higher tech who is going to fix my problems....then the badgering began, the insisting that I must do it now, do not disconnect them or the Russians will be able to immediately empty my bank accounts, etc.  This guy wanted $1300 dollars and was refusing to give me a number to call back once I made a decision.
I told him to hold as I had to take care of something.  That is when I used my cell phone to call my neighbor who is an ITT Specialist and she came over and the grilling began...the arguing...the hard sell.  While on mute and she had disabled his ability to hear us thru the CPU mike....she showed me that all the stuff he claimed had been put in by the "Russians" HE had actually put in.  She immediately disconnected him and began to clean out what he had done.  He began calling my home at once....I refused to answer....then he called my cell.  I do not know how he got that number, as I never give it out to internet connections.  It took my friend 7 hours but things got back to normal...however, I believe that he put time release bugs in as I keep getting small annoying problems.....fixable...but time consuming.  BEWARE AND BE AFRAID

Scammers. Left a (probably automated) message on voice mail saying to press one to speak to a Microsoft Engineer. Don't even answer these guys.

Same crap call... I asked Apu why Microsoft would be questioning the integrity of my Mac.  He said Microsoft and Apple are working together on virus matters.

First: this indeed just another scam.  What they will do, if you are dumb enough to allow them control over your computer, is to download a virus to your computer, then charge you to remove it !

Now my question is: WHY do you answer a call you do NOT recognize ?   When you do all you have done is to confirm for them that they have reached a viable, working number (yours) and they will continue to call you, plus sell your number to other scammers.   Also, the governments Do Not Call list works no better than the government does.

Thought to ponder: What if no one ever answered these type of calls?   Wouldn't they eventually have to go out of business ?   Think about it next time BEFORE answering that phone.

yelp got a call from this number 2143026762, and if I don't recognize the number my wife and I let it go to voice mail, then I come here to check the number out, if nothing here and I really want to know ill google it and search deeper. What I never do is give info or allow anyone to do anything over the phone thatI didn't call first, now a-days what people can be is really good actors have a way to make phone numbers usually your area code or close to it can be unavailable or even can have fake names written on the id, its all to get your hard earn money or to trap you into giving personal information to them, I would never let anyone have access to your computer, its not worth it in my opinion save your info on a flash drive and go buy another new computer is what I would do atleast you can still feel like your info has not been compromised, hope this helps someone.. :) peace

Called and left a garbled message

Complete garbage and scam phone call.  A recording was on the line saying that my computer was generating multiple severe errors and I just needed to press 1 to talk to a microsoft engineer.  Instead, I hung up and blocked the number.

I told them I did not own a computer.  The guy did not know what to say.  I hung up.

Scam caller left message to call back to Microsoft Engineering

Got a call from this # at 3:12 p.m.  Left msg about pressing 1....

Recorded call saying they were from Microsoft and that my computer is generating serious errors and to hit #1.  Of course it is a scam so I hung up.  That isn't even the phone number for Microsoft.

I just got a call from this number.  The message claimed to be Microsoft.  Everyone, please keep in mind that Microsoft will not make an unsolicited phone call to anyone.  These scammers prey on those people that don't know any better.  Do NOT talk to anyone calling you from Microsoft or any company if you did not contact them FIRST.

Call at 1204 pm PDT.  Man's voice was very American sounding, not at all foreign, which was a surprise.  It was the message starting with Microsoft engineers have noted I have ... and hung up when the voice mail was about to end saying leave a message.  For some of you who commented above:  1.  Do NOT pick up the phone; calls should diminish over time if you do not engage.  2.  If you pick up the phone you are contributing to their income and they sell your phone number to other scammers.  3.  Crooks do not abide by the do not call list -- they are not a legitimate business.  4.  Let the elderly and impaired know not to every pick up the phone, always liten to the message first.  5.  If they do not have an answering machine or caller ID -- get them one -- and remind not to pick up ever.  It is so sad that years ago we rolled our eyes at the "paranoid old people" and now they have reason to be so with these disgusting crooks from around the world.  PLEASE do not interact with them.  It gets you more grief.  You do not "win" -- they "win."  Report each call so the feds can close in on them.  Then they will either be caught or be aware of the close in on them and change to another number.  Sigh.

That my computer had a virus.  I told them my computer was in the bathtub. He hung up.
