USUAL COMPUTER SCAM - AGAIN. If your bored, just tell them that you have to log into your PC and just leave the phone sitting. They'll eventually hang up after 15-30 minutes, just think of all the people you saved from getting calls from these idiots!

The usual computer virus scam.

I have received numerous calls from this number and some that come through as Restricted.  They tell me the same thing, that my computer is generating errors.  I asked them how do they know I have a computer, because I do not, which is not true, of course!

The chairman of the FCC is Tom Wheeler.  Email him at this address:  tom.wheeler@fcc.org.  You will receive a form to complete so they can take action.

Fake Check Scam is similar to Nigerian scam- callers are offering to pay for something you are selling via a third party because they are in another country or they are in another country and need an advance, etc.
You can file complaints about various scams with the FTC or your state Attorney General or consumer protection agency. For information on how to file complaints with the FTC, visit the FTC Web site at www.ftc.gov or call toll free at 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357); TTY: 1-866-653-4261.
Contact information for your state Attorney General's office or consumer protection agency usually can be found in the blue pages of your telephone directory.
You may want to put a fraud alert on your credit report if you feel they are trying to steal your identity.
Victims of identity theft may contact the fraud departments of the three major credit bureaus, report the theft and ask that a "fraud alert" be placed on their file and that no new credit be granted without their approval:

Contact you're bank to make them aware there is a scam. Also, contact your local law enforcement regarding the threats and notify your local newspaper so they can get the word out to other consumers that there is a scam in your area.

Virus scammers.

it doesn't matter that you are on the do not call list. i have put name and number on there 6-7 times and it does absolutely no good. in the last week i have had at least 20 calls. I HAVE A NOISE MAKER THAT I USE AND IT USUALLY WORKS PRETTY GOOD.

The Dnc doesn't matter to scammers/criminals,  especially when calling from a foreign country.  FYI:  once registered on the DNC, always registered.  When you re-register,  all you're doing is deactivating your number for 31 days until it is then entered as a new listing and then another 30 days until it gets in the hands of legitimate businesses.  Don't shoot yourself in the foot.

I have had many calls from people with Indian accents claiming to be from Microsoft, but in the past two days, the caller has had a very stern American voice. He is telling me that my computer is putting out harmful signals or something to that effect. I have hung up on him. I ran an advanced Norton scan and Facebook scan and came up clean. Having trouble reporting it. Police department said to go to phone provider. Phone provider said to go to FTC. Haven't been there yet.

I get an echo of me answering. This has happened a few times now.

Calls a lot

Just got a call from this # (a recording ) with the Microsoft engineering message) told me to press "1" I didn't press"1" just held the phone. I wasn't even on my computer @ the time

ive gotten two calls lately from this #. The first time I told the guy I could barely understand I don't own a computer. He hung up. Today I sounded really concerned about my Microsoft problem....lol.
He told me to go turn my computer on...I said ...which one? I have ten!!! Lol . He hung up

Claimed to be microsoft engineers, when I questined them they hung up.

Just got this scam call. I knew right away it was a scam. Seem to be getting a lot of scam calls recently.

What happened to you?  Did anything get stolen from your computer?  I also unfortunately let him go on... and eventually he wanted to charge $299.  I started to cry... (I was having a very bad day to begin with), and he hung up on me.  Were there any ramifications from what you let him see?  It seems like he had control of my computer.  It's a scary world!

Received the call from 214-302-6762 recording stating to press one to speak to a Microsoft tech, I new this was a scam. You have a better chance of winning the power ball than speaking to a live person at Microsoft. Blocked the call on my call blocker.

Tried to tell me that my computer had a serious virus, if it did, I would not be able to get on this site.

Same as everyone else.  Said my computer had a virus and should let the"Microsoft" engineer fix it.  I just hung up.  Second scam call today.  Other from the IRS!

Accidentally answered -- the usual criminal computer virus scam, but the new twist is that instead of a person with a heavy Indian accent speaking live, this was a recording, and the speaker had the voice of an American broadcaster, and said "your computer has a virus."  Unfortunately, this tactic is probably much more convincing to a vulnerable person than the usual heavily accented voice is.

Caller ID = "Texas" and I did not pick up.
Don't answer, don't call back. Blocking is worthless.

The same goes for junk E-Mail.  NEVER use Unsubscribe unless you initiated the e-mail. Use Rules to move/delete unwanted mail.

Once they know your Phone Number or E-Mail address is real, they sell it.
In my contacts list, I created a phone entry called ZZZ and move the questionable numbers into it.  It also has a soundless ringtone.

I figured that ZZZ would show next time any of these numbers are used to call me.  After a year and over 150 phone numbers, I rarely see ZZZ on the incoming call.  Maybe it happened 3 times and figured these people were legitimately selling something.

Blocking doesn't work and probably explains why the "Do Not Call" registry doesn't work either.
