The caller only got as far as saying "Hi, I'm Rachel". I'm ashamed to say I used two words - the second was "off". Hope they don't keep calling

    Hello,

I have gotten a half-dozen calls from 234-567-8900 lately, and today, for the first time, they left a message. Something about renewing my eligibility to lower my interest rate... the beginning of the message is chopped off, so I don't know if they say who they are. Their message says to presse one to renew, three to cancel...

Sounds like a possible phishing scheme... beware.

P.S. this is probably hackers who tamper the number displayed on caller ID, i.e. they can probably set it to what they want. I doubt there is really any number with the 234 call type...

    Hi AndyG,

I talked to my phone provider and they told me that there was no way to stop the calls as they are not sure where the call is coming originationg or who they are coming from.  If you are in Canada, you can add your phone/cell number to the national do not call list (https://www.lnnte-dncl.gc.ca/verins-chkreg-eng).  It takes a month before your number is added.  The companies are not allowed to call you UNLESS you are a client of theirs.  If they are a charity organization, they can still call as that is how they make their money.  I added my number to the list as that is the best solution that Bell gave me.

yeh are they rude or what? The scam, yes offshore, phone company and mounted police (Phonebusters) cant do anything. Seems they trying to sell us a credit service worth 6-700$ to be charged on our credit card. Police told me to watch my future bills and to call them if i find anything. Also reported the call at Bell Canada and asked to keep a note in my file ...in case i suddenly find a great friend in Bouthan or the Maldives... After the 10 call i did press 1 to speak to an «agent» and they had my phone number and probably my name also so beware!!!
Super fishing and probably identity theft.

Me, good job on trying to get information, but I agree with Homer that these guy are probably making up an official sounding name. It is likely that the NFA group are not the one making the call. But you could call the NFA group and describe the phone call you received and from their response discern if they are indeed cold calling. If it is not them, they should be concerned that someone is falsely using their name and want more information.
