    Calling at 4:30 AM
I received a call at 4:30 am this morning. I declined to take the call and returned back to my beauty sleep.
I tried returning the call just now to see who in the heck was trying to call me at that hour.
It was a recording stating it was "Jennifer Leach from the Federal Trade Commission” and that I was calling that number bc I had received an email from a company I do business with….. and it was a trick…..

I didn’t receive an email, but glad the FTC has routed this number to alert the callers to notify that this is a bogus number.

Received a call from this number.  A man with a middle eastern accent explained that he was from Microsoft and that they were receiving a lot of errors from my computer.  He wanted to help fix my problem and asked if I was sitting at my computer. I hang up.

I also received a call from this number -- on my cell phone. The guy, "Rolf", had a thick accent and told me that my computer was sending error messages to the windows server and that I needed to get it fixed right away. He kept saying "all right" after every sentence. I told him to stop saying that and he got mad. So, he decided to use the phrase "ok" after every sentence and I told him to stop that. He got irritated after that and told me that if I didn't have my computer fixed by a registered windows technician that I could be affecting other computers. What did he take me for -- a fool? I'm not ignorant about how computers work. I again told him to stop saying "all right" and "ok" until he finally said "what do you want me to say". I told him I wanted to him to say good bye and then I hung up. When I called the number later I received a recorded message that warns against this scam number.

I started getting calls from this number about a week or so ago - but I NEVER answer unrecognized numbers, and this is stated on my voicemail.  However, this behavior makes it hard to get rid of those jerks that like to disturb others... but I am fortunate to have VerizonWireless - and I will put this number on my block list.  It lasts only a month (last time I checked?) but most unwanted callers get discouraged and give it up!  Would be nice not to have to tolerate this crap!

just got a call from 253 802 0308 we let it go to voice mail then checked the message.  It was a recording saying that a friend or family memeber entered my name from one of their retailers... though no mention of who the retailers were and that we won a 2603.00 towards a trip for 4 people to Cancun Mexico.
    We deleted the message.

Just got a suspicious call from these same people . The strange thing was that I had just put in a repair request for my FIOS tv with verizon, online, and they are supposed to call me about it. So I kept asking him if he was from Verizon, and he says he is with Microsoft.(So Microsoft should do something about these people posing as them). I told him there was NOTHING wrong with my computer, it was my TV. he kept insisting it was my computer, so I smelled a rat!!
He kept saying I had called about a problem with my computer, so makes me wonder if they have a hack in on the Verizon website and captured my phone number. It was within 30 minutes of my putting my number in on the Verizon website. Hung up on him and he called back, so I didn't answer.
    Indian accent.
Maybe I will go back to verizon and submit my cell number and see if they call that.

Got a call from "Steve" calling from 209-965-79743  trying to get me to open my computer; the
day previously I spent 2 hours talking to a 'technician' (with an accent, as well) trying to get
my credit card no.   Fortunately it didn't process, and have since cancelled my card. They tried
to see me a 3 year service contract to the tune of $270.  Will be taking my computer to
a reputable technician and get it cleaned up.

It is 12:55 P.M. in Winnipeg, Man. here on Sept. 15/11.
    Why are you calling me?
I do not have Skype connected. Was something I was doing having a problem with your services?
I could not understand the lady calling because of language dialect. Nor do I know who you are directly. A guess but no reason to confirm it's worth. What do you wish before I report this to my local service provider?

Just go to your telephone company web site and BLOCK the offending number, so it will not be able to come thru.
But that's nothing permanent, because those Caller ID spoofers use a number for one day or so, then start to use some other number. The numbers they use are abandoned numbers, not yet reassigned by the telephone companies.
    From Wikipedia:

Caller ID spoofing is the practice of causing the telephone network to display a number on the recipient's Caller ID display which is not that of the actual originating station. The term is commonly used to describe situations in which the motivation is considered malicious by the speaker or writer. Just as e-mail spoofing can make it appear that a message came from any e-mail address the sender chooses, Caller ID spoofing can make a call appear to have come from any phone number the caller wishes. Because of the high trust people tend to have in the Caller ID system, spoofing can call the system's value into question.

It is amazing that such a crooked practice is allowed to go on!
Where are the feds when I need them????? I wrote to my US Rep...no response!

Bottom line: IGNORE IT and never give the other side ANY information. PERIOD!

just rcvd call from this number from some guy with a thick indian accent. said he rcvd msgs from my computer because it has malware that is slowly damaging my application and system software. First he said something about Windows and I though he was selling windows. He became irritated when I pressed him for who he was and who he worked for. first he worked for microsoft then interim solutions then infozoom solutions. I asked where he was located he said new york. he kept trying to get me to press the microsoft key and the letter r on my computer. he became very agitated when i asked him what will happen if i do press these keys. he rudely asked me why am i asking so many questions. what will happen is very technical. i told him i know a little bit about computers and insisted he tell me what will happen. he said the "run" window will come up. i said how do i know that if i do this i wont be activating some sort of virus that came from you. while i was on the phone i looked up info zoom solutions and their service did not line up with what he said he does. i asked him for a call back number and he gave me my cell phone number. i told him he was giving me my own number and asked for callback number again. twice he tried to give me my own number. i snapped at him and asked him was i supposed to call myself if we got disconnected and he hung up. i called this 253 number and an ftc recording from some woman talking about phishing and identity theft.

First few calls showed "international call" and unfortunately I allowed access to my laptop but terminated access when the caller didn't know what a DOS prompt looked like. After contacting Microsoft I was directed to download MS safety scaanner "safety.live.com microsoft" and follow links to scan hard drive. Secondly, from the DOS prompt run mrt (enter). this is a Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool. This scan takes hours but currently scans for 190 known malicious software programs. My system is "No malicious software detected." The security scan will confirm no malicious software. Now I have created a "Restore point" with a clean system. I have also changed all passwords and set Internet Explores to not remember forms, ID's, or passwords, and clear web history upon closing the program. Logins are more time-consuming but potentially damaging information is not accessible to outsiders. Be careful to only use "https" addresses.

Well, They have rung my phone but I looked them up here and am not anwsering it. I also posted it on facebook for my friends and told family to put the number in their phone and list it as SCAM so if they get called they will know right from the start not to pick it up.

They are still at it! Phone call at 9:35pm local time asking to please log on to our computer. They even transfered the call to a "supervisor" when my husband said he couldn't understand a word the caller was saying. Apparently whatever scam they are running doesn't work on Mac's because they hung up. Really don't like the fact that they asked for me by name, isn't there some way to shut them down?

A woman, probably indian, said in a very bad english that she phoned from Microsoft support and that my computer suffered from virus. I had virus in Bios she said. That is; someone in the background told her what to say, so it was hard to understand. I was not sitting at my computer and wanted to do some research first so I hang up on her.

Just got 2 calls from this number in the past hour. First time I didn't answer, and the second time I picked up and no one is on the other line. It sounds like someone might be there but they're just not saying anything. I then hung up. So annoying!

    Dumb scam replies to Fireheart
I get these calls fairly often. When I signed up to Rogers, they spelled my name incorrectly. I told them a few times to change it but it remained that way for a while. These guys call asking for me by that name. No other company has that name for me, its only 2 letters different, but makes it a completly different last name. So for you Canadians, they could be getting the info through them. Never fell for it, and always love to tell them how stupid they are, and ask questions. It is getting rather annoying though, in that they call anytime of the day
