I got a call this evening from the Police Protective Fund. When I said "no thank you," he said "Thank you for being so rude," then he uttered an expletive and hung up. Last year same thing happened. Who are these guys, and does the Better Business Bureau know about them? I don't appreciate being harrassed.

I got a call from this number as I do many times when I don't answer.  This time I did answer and they asked for my husband.  When I said he wasn't home, the man immediately hung up on me.

Called again at 7:17 the other night again, no matter how many times you ask to be removed from their list it does no good, they still keep calling.

My wife answered the call and when they identified themselves as the Police Protection Fund she gave the phone to me.  Drew identified himself and his cause.  I asked him what number he was calling from and his reply was the Rockville, Md. call center, but the number was not available to the callers.  I asked him for his address and I would send him a few dollars.  He believed the address was 112 NE Corridor West and asked me to hold the phone while he called his supervisor over.  I held the (dead) phone until the phone company recording came on.  I called *69 (cost $0.75) to get the phone number.  I'm  calling the local police.

Calls our number...hangs up when answered.  NOT a number that we recognize.  Found this site when googling the phone number.

Brad -  the sad thing is that today (a year after you posted it was 2 years since this was your father's number) your father's name appeared on my caller id with this phone number.  Even if the charity is legitimate, there must be some crime involved in misrepresenting your father's name!

Who cares if they are a real charity.  If someone is on the do NOT call list then they shouldn't be bothered with calls soliciting money.  It is a scam to call someone who has not requested to be contacted and ask them for their money...no matter the cause.  That is akin to begging and its annoying and intrusive into people's lives.  I hate these types of calls and I don't care what good they do for the families of people who die in the line of police duties.  They chose that career and they have the option to get their own health and life insurance.  My husband is in the Army and I would never expect others to pay me if he dies at work...that is why we have life insurance.

Got a call from a man collecting for protection for police officers.  He was very annoyed when I said I wasn't interested in getting any literature from him.  He started with intimidation like "Don't you want to help police..." and I hung up on him. 3/26/09

I get calls from this number (John H. Farrell on caller ID) all the time.  I never answer it because I don't answer unless I know who is calling.  Has been calling my number several times over past 15 months.  Finally decided to do backward phone lookup to see who John Farell is and came up with this site and others.  And Yes, Police Protective Fund is a fraud.  I called police department and asked about them once years ago.  Not related in anyway to Police Departments.

These people call all the time and when you tell them that you can't afford a donation they respond with thanks a lot and hang up on you.  This is a national organization but they were investigated years ago in Maryland because of their high operating exspenses and the fact that the police never had a record of receiving money from them.   They will tell you that 85% of what they collect go to the police.  BULL!  Don't donate to this scam.

No calls from anyone by that name, but with such an uncommon and specific spelling, gotta wonder if someone isn't cyber-stalking this girl?  There are too many cases where bogus info has been posted, solely to "get even" with a mark, to shed a bad light on a person's name. Recently, the Supreme Court came down hard on those who use the internet to anonymously post untruths. There are penalties for this kind of thing.  Beware!

I hate these kinds of people. These people take advantage of psychology to get the most out of their call.

This guy that called me was speaking in a officer like manner. People listen to authority and by acting like an officer he gets people to listen to him. Then he goes on saying "did you know that more officers die in car accidents than violent crimes?"(Which I knew and can be easily deduced) and goes on asking for donations. By using "did you know" followed by bad news, especially car accidents, he tries to make us feel horrible and by using "did you know" he tries make us responsible for the deaths. I mean, no one "really" obeys the speed limit right? Since he made us feel bad and made us responsible for the deaths, it makes us more vulnerable to make up for what we "did wrong" by giving money. At this point I refused, then he goes on saying "I'm sorry, then how about a small donation?" Again by apologizing it makes us feel guilty and notice that this guy is taking a step back by asking smaller amounts of donation. Like kids begging parents for $50, when they refuse kids asking for $5 (more likely the parents will give in to $5).

I spoke to him for a while and I could write pages on what kinds of techniques he used. I'm a nice person, I don't hate anyone. I'm a person that doesn’t look down on anyone and treats everyone equally. But when I deal with these kind of people, I just can't help but hating them.

Well, the police fund can take a cut of the zillions of dollars generated from traffic light and speed camera tickets the county leeches from DC-area drivers.

Montgomery county residents get enough bs from their local representatives and don't need anymore from some two-bit charity masquerading as the police department.

And NO, the [***] who called me this evening was polite until I asked if he was a "real" police officer.  Somehow that must have offended him because he became arrogant and condescending.

People don't want these types of calls EVEN though the government says you have the right to irritate us.

No calls from anyone by that name, but with such a specific spelling, "he" has even included the middle initial, gotta wonder if this guy isn't putting his own name out there to claim he's being "cyber stalked"? But scammers never use their real names anyway.

This coward behind a spoofed number
Caller id says John Farell but I am 100 percent sure that ain't him. This coward has been calling me for about a year and half. I wonder how did this fraud or frauds get a hold of my number. Whoever gave it to him or his group must be just like him, a bunch of scared germs. I dont need his damn protection. Looks like he's the one that hides and calls random people begging for money. I've heard this guys voice when he called me with a private number. He must be out of his scared mind to think that I will give him a dime. I ain't gonna give him s**t. I want to see this guy face to face. But then the coward dont want to show his face to the public that wants him badly. He can play his psychological games with himself. No matter what tactic he uses to gain peoples confidence, nobody should give him or his scammer assocation nothing. He dont work for no police association. He puts in ids like police protection just to scam people. He will run and hide like the coward that he is.
