They called me as well about Golf Digest.  I asked questions to and was transferred to a manager.  They wanted a credit card or check.  I said I would pay by check and the manager asked for my checking account number.  I would not give it to her and told her to send me a bill.  I got a bill today, but I am not sure if this is a legit. company.  They are claiming to give me a cheaper price than paying thru Golf Digest directly.

Golf World has never heard of them either. They called 4 times within 2 hours and claimed my subscription was about to expire and offered a great deal and my subscription does not expire until April 2011. My wife was right about this one. They claimed to represent Golf World which they do not. They did answer when I called and canceled the extended subscription and gave me an invoice number.

Crown Marketing relentlessly pursued me too.  They do not represent any magazine and the subscription they asked me to renew had actually been automatically renewed last month by the magazine itself.

I've alerted my state's attorney general's office to this company's activities and urge all who've been contacted by them to do the same.  The Federal Trade Commission might be a good agency to contact as well.

    Good luck!

Recieved a call about being on the preferred list for American Cowboy magazine. They verified my address and asked for a CC# and I told them I do not give out that information over the phone. They have since sent me a bill, which now after Googling I will not pay. I will report this to the DA's office to a friend of mine and mail back the statement with no money. Thanks GOOGLE and all who posted notes.

If you call 1-800-925-7130 and ask for Raymond Makatura they will be very helpful in resolving your problem.  Be sure to mention you got his name from the Rocky Mountain Better Business Bureau (where it is listed).

I had this number on my caller ID several times last week.  I was home for one of the calls.  Similar story; magazine subscription renewal, great price; confirm mailing address, transfered to a supervisor; supervisor asks me for my credit card number.  I tell him no.  He asks why?  I tell him I don't give out that info on the phone to someone who calls ME!!  Told him to send me something in the mail.  It came yesterday from Crown Marketing Inc in Denver.  It doesn't look official to me.  When I have renewed subscriptions before, they always ask for the mailing label to be attached.  They didn't ask for that.  Something really looked "off". Especially on the generic order form to put my credit card number.  It asks for the additional 3 digit number on the back of the card. Glad I googled and found this website.  I think I'll send their offer back to them in their return envelope without any type of payment.  Just a note:  sorry, my mama didn't raise no fool.

they've called several times , insisting that they represent a magazine
that we already subscribe to , and that they can offer us a "special"rate
if we can pay now by credit card ...

i'm on my state's DO NOT CALL LIST , but they still do.
i've even tried to call their bogus 1-800 number to complain , but only get
a repeated message that " all agents are busy "...
i only today read these complaints against this company , and am amazed that
the state on colorado , or maybe even the federal gov't has not stepped in
to stop this scam company from taking someone's money .

Received a call from a cell phone (626) 273-8235 at the end of January 2010. They had my name and address, and said they are representing Natural Health which I do received. They were informing me of recent price increases and would I like to renew before that happens. I was already suspect with the used of a cell phone to call me and why would Natural Health not just send me a renewal slip. He told me the new renewal rate and then got his supervisor on the line to verify my order - who in turn ask me for my credit card number, which I said no I would not give my number out, just send me a bill. He seems quite perturbed about me saying no to the credit card. I then did get an invoice in the mail asking for $54.00, which I then called Natural Health themselves and told them of what I had experienced. They told me to ignore the bill. Now I have received another bill. Which I am going to ignore.
My concern is yes I am on the DO NOT CALL LIST in my state but how did they get my name, address and magazine interests?

I received several calls over the course of a few days. When I finally did answer, it was to renew a mag subscription. They had my info correct, even the stop date of the subscription. Then they asked for a credit card number. I said I wouldn't give out my number to a business I hadn't called, and to mail a bill, which they did. Two things caught my attention: the insert asking again for credit card number and security code, and the name of the magazine with an exclamation point after, which it doesn't have. I just received my 3rd payment due notice from them, and decided to Google them. Glad I found this website!

Their number has changed..now they have a 800-238-2370 and a 303-467-3380 as well as a 800-925-7130...just got a bill today since I refused to renew over the phone and left a message advising tthat they misrepresented themselves when I specifically asked if they were employees of the magazine they were calling about.  I advised I would be contacting the better business bureau if they did not call to confirm they were cancelling the subscription that I did not authorize....I will also be contacting my the federal trade commission since they are an out of state entity.

Received call telling me time to renew my Family Circle magazine subscription.  They wanted my credit card #.  When I told them I wasn't giving that info over the phone, they said they would mail me an invoice - which they did.  Before I paid the invoice I thought I better check this out because I don't remember Family Circle ever using a service to renew their subscriptions.  Apparently my hunch was correct based on this website.  Now I have an invoice and no intention of paying.  I'm sure they'll start sending nasty notices soon.

they called our home # too many times and did not leave  amessage, but they get you on the phone and then the person says you will be talking to my supervisor at the end of this call.  why?
they asked if theycould get a credit card # or pay over the phone by check, i said bill me, they said the bill needed to be paid within 10 days.  I checked family circle.com and their subscription rate is 3 x lower than the crown marketing. Also, if you get the company's vm, it says it will take 90 days for your renewal subscription to start up again. HUH????  I called up and told them i did not want it and they cancelled.  reading all these posts i was glad i did not write the check and mail it to them. OMG!

Before you are deceived by these people like I was, take a look at the mailing label on the magazine in question, and find out when the subscription expires. I didn't, and now my husband's Street Rodder magazine doesn't expire until 2022!

Since there is a civil suit pending, they may be in violation of the law if they are still calling people, or sending renewal notices in the mail.  We received a notice in the mail from them today, which I will be forwarding to the Colorado Attorney General.

You can read a copy of the 64 page court document at the website below. (their scripted sales pitch starts on page 29)

    Erin Vigil.
READ When you order a magazine subscription; on your own; your name automatically goes on a list with your address, which magazines etc. Say you order a National Geographic subscription, for 2 years- that goes in a system with National Geographic, you then have 3rd party campaign companies who BUY these lists from whichever magazine companie, and then they will call and call and call to renew your subscription; whether with a discount or a "gift" (Gift vouchers, Gift cards...or whatever they have to offer).
So, when a few of you who have called "National Geographic, orGolf World", whichever, and they told you it's a scam-they're the ones' lying, they don't want you to know that they SOLD your information to a 3rd party company. They ALSO, use the 3rd party companies to market their magazines. So, the actual company (National Geographic) not only SELLS your information, they also continue to profit from the 3rd parties, as they receive money for the magazines themselves.

I have dealt with these people before. I do order subscriptions, but I am fully AWARE of the entire operation, as I didn't (like everyone here) want to get screwed.

Basically, if you like to read magazines; like to keep them coming; some companies allow you to change them without charge, and provide you a list of what they carry.
SO, have them explain the entire service to you, SLOWLY, have their supervisor explain the service. UNDERSTAND your rights: The entire conversation is recorded; as by law, electronic payments by phone HAS to be recorded, and you HAVE to agree to the terms and conditions in order for the contract to be legitimate. You are initiating a CONTRACT by phone, so understand the entirety of the service before agreeing.
This is the magazine callers operation in its entirety. This is EXACTLY what they do, how they obtain your information and how they operate.
I am in no way excusing the [***] customer service some of you are stating on their end.
Just want everyone here to be able to make an educated decision, and to go from there.

    Thanks,
