Getting unwanted calls saying it's urgent and I need to call or my lawyer needs to call today. Think it's a scam

The caller was calling my sisters home who I am housesitting as she was in a car accident they asked for her name and when I said she was in the hospital they slam down the phone. I called back and told them I wasn't attorney and he started demanding my my ABA number he said that he was with the financial litigation unit well the financial litigation unit is with the US attorney's office and when I would not give him my bar number he slammed on the phone again so they said the company was Bonner and Associates

He called said he was Ron Adams and told me I owed over 5000 dollars and he will see me in court

I just received a call from this person and he claims that I owe 5000 dollars for a payday loan in which I never recieved. This is a complete lie and never received such a loan

They called me from this number threatening me: 305/507-4623.

he got a new number now...it's 305-507-4623.....and he called me but I reversed it on him and started to calling him every five minutes,,,now he mad at me and want me to stop....I told everyone I could to call for me just to mess with his phone...he cut it off for about two hours but I started calling again...he mad at me...he woke me up and I been calling every since...that's how you stop him

You sure he didn't say "Boner & Associates"?  That would be a more appropriate name.

It's a scam.  Someone sold your personal information.  He'll never "see you in court".  That's just one of their scare tactics.

The above is the actual firm's website.  I say "actual" firm because there are several discrepancies between the info on the site and what has been posted here.  First off, the phone numbers on the website don't match the number cited here or on the BBB's website (although the BBB address does match).  Also, the firm's website only lists two attorneys, both named Bonner.  There is no "Mark Smith", "Alex Peters" or "Liam Anthony" listed with the firm.  Finally, this appears to be a bankruptcy firm.  Bankruptcy attorneys are generally in the business of stopping creditor harassment, not perpetuating it.  I verified the above info on the Florida Bar Association's website, and it appears to check out:

If I had to venture a guess, I would say that a scammer is hijacking this firm's name and impersonating them.  No way to know for sure, but it seems improbable that a licensed law firm would jeopardize their license by blatantly breaking the law (not that it hasn't happened....it's just improbable).  I'm thinking the real scammer is outside their walls.

Got a call from Simon Sym (a man with a very heavy Indian accent) from Bonner & Associates Attorney Office.  He was calling to get the name of my attorney for papers that would be served to me on Monday morning.  When I asked what the charges were for he said I'd taken out a loan with US Credit Services who own 150 other companies who give out unsecured loans, payday loans, etc.  When I asked when I took out this loan he did not have an answer but told me that USCS had sent me 13 emails about the debt and that he was not trying to collect a debt and that I didn't need that information.  He had my email address, former employer, the last 4 of my social, and the last 4 of a very old bank account.  When I explained that I wasn't going to proceed until I received an official verification of debt to my home address he laughed at me.  (I asked under the instruction of the Federal Trade Commission and Consumer Protection Bureau.)  Simon said he worked for the affidavit processing department of the US Attorney's office.  I told him that, under the circumstances of the conversation, and he hung up on me.  I called back and asked to speak to him again.  He laughed at me again and hung up.  I called back again and spoke with another man with a very heavy Indian accent.  I asked him for the name of the attorney in his office, their bar number, and the state in which they practice law.  He told me to look it up myself.  When I told him that he would tell me he said, "no, I'm not in the mood to tell you," agreed when I called him unprofessional and also hung up on me.  This happened twice more.  Upon my final call, no one answered and it went to a fast busy signal.  Please beware of people who act like this.  I will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and ic3.gov (the internet computer crime complaint department).  When people try to defraud me of my money, I don't mess around.

It is illegal for them to contact your place of employment.

They are definitely hijacking the name of this legitimate firm as they know that people Google their name. They figure that people will call back thinking it is a legit place that wants to help, if the intended victim does actually have debt issues. Got to be smarter than that, dirtbag scammers.

He just called me.  What do I do?

I received a very disturbing voice mail from Kevin Jones, Bonner and Associates. The voicemail contained threats and he was not able to answer my questions. After seeking advice, I will report the call to the authorities for follow-up and also to prevent future threatening calls to other people.

Two bit Indian scammers hijacking existing lawfirm names and attempting extortion.  Nothing more, nothing less.  Indian accent should be a dead giveaway. No lawfirm worth anything would cold call you and tell you a case has been filed against you.  Cases are normally filed when negotiation has failed for some reason.

This company tried calling me in september and just tried again. I asked for their credentials and the person on the other end became very upset and began yelling. I told him I would be calling the police and he told me to go right a head. I did and of course there is no warrant out for my arrest, and I do not have any payday loans out either. REPORT them. It may not do any good now but in the future it may. Also, get a fraud alert on your credit.
