I've been an unfortunate recipient of Cigna's "Wellness Care" harassing phonecalls. I have had a handful of health care providers in 10 years (Aetna, Premier, GroupHealth) as I've been consulting for different companies, and I have never experienced this kind of intrusive marketing campaign. Cigna uses your private medical information to try and intimidate you into stopping care. Example, see a psychologist to work out major life issue--Cigna thinks you should be calling their customer service phone counselors to cheer you up. They will send you weekly letters telling you to call them and let them help with your 'depression.' My insurance company is now qualified to provide mental health services over the phone? I do not answer their calls and every time I see one of their letters, I shred it without opening it. I'm sure they will find some way to force their agenda on me. I don't even know who to escalate this to, and would be wary anyway because it has to do with my private health information. I think Cigna is banking on that.

I agree 100% and I am so glad to see that someone else feels this way. How can this be legal? It seems like they are trying to intimidate me into stopping my professional care in favor of talking on the phone to one of their customer service people. I'm showing their intrusive Wellcare letters to my doctor to see if he can take any action or at least open the discussion among his peers on behalf of patients.

I've had Cigna for over four years now, but it has only been this last year that I've started to get these annoying calls from "Yourhealthplan".  Sometimes they talk.  Sometimes they leave a message.  Sometimes they rudely hang up.  I don't want their services, and wish to have a different health care provider, but I'm stuck with Cigna for now.

Actually the first time they called me they did leave a message stating its CIGNA Free Wellness service.
    And your grammar is horrible.

This phone number is Cigna Wellcare.  They will not leave any messages because of HIPAA regulations unless you call them back and give them permission.  In my case, they were following up on a treatment that I had.  Also, they asked me for my name and birthdate.  These 2 items are routinely-asked to verify identity, again due to HIPAA regulations.

I know it's important to be careful these days about scams and identity theft, but it's just as important to not be overly paronid.  If you doubt the authenticity of a phone number, call it back from a payphone.

I, too, have received the calls.  Yes, they calls are parts of CIGNA's WellCare Program but NO, they are not harmless. The WellCare Program is designed to micro-manage plan members that have chronic health conditions and you can be hit with coverage penalties if you don't cooperate with them. Some plans have extra deductibles and/or higher copays if you decline to participate, mine does!

They want to develop your "plan of care" and then follow up with you and your doctors to make sure you are following it.  I really resent  this, I don't need to be justifying why I didn't need to refill a certain med and I don't need them telling me how often to see my doctor.  I am perfectly capable of staying informed about my condition without them invading my space and asking me personal questions every three weeks.

I work for Maricopa County in AZ and just got one of these rude calls.  This woman calls me and says that she is calling as part of my Well Aware benefit with CIGNA.  She then proceeds to tell me that she is going to spend a few minutes asking me questions (!) but first needs to inform me that she will be recording our conversation!!  Can you believe the audacity?? Maricopa County and CIGNA think it is acceptable to intrude without invite into employees' personal affairs.  These people need to learn some manners and proper boundaries.  I understand the concerns regarding rising health care costs but patronizing employees and determining for them that they need to discuss their private health information with some unknown nurse from the insurance company is intrusive and unacceptable. I've got my medical care under control and I don't need Maricopa County and CIGNA deciding for me that I need some telephone coach. Please go away.

I've received calls from Cigna WellAware. I have told them that I will not discuss medical matters on a recorded line. They say they'll call back on a non-recorded line, but who's to say they will actually do that? I had a complication during pregnancy that was resolved after the baby arrived and they're still calling me about it nearly 3 years later. I appreciate what they're trying to do, but my doctor knows me and my history and has a good handle on my care.

I called the number back and it was CIGNA WellAware, a legitimate part of my insurance coverage.  I've spoken with the nurses there many times before and they are very helpful.  The lady was very nice and thanked me for letting her know the auto-dialer was calling and hanging up.

If you get a call/hang-up, give them a call back and let them know the system is malfunctioning.

This is NOT a fraud call as some people have stated. It is a partner program for Cigna as part of their well aware program. I had another insurance that offered this program, in my opinion did a much better job of it. I was enrolled in my prior program due to a pregnancy and transfered to a different division when I suffered from post partum depression which now turned into treatment resistant depression. Yay me. When my company switched to Cigna I became enrolled in their program. When they call I have to verify my name, date of birth, and address. Even though THEY call me, they want to make sure the person answering the phone is the "patient". They work with my doctors to help me get the absolute best care.

So "Steve",  how long have you worked for Cigna, or maybe your spouse is one of their "nurses". Feel compelled to defend them, do ya ?

I didn't ask for this service, don't need it, don't want it. I DO want these so-called "nurses" to get out of my life.  I already have a doctor, staff nurses, and PA's.  I will not discuss personal information of any kind with total strangers, especially an RN turned telemarketer.

For those of you who want to stop ALL annoying calls, get one of the newer DECT 6 class phones with call block. You can block ANY number with the touch of a button, and the phone never even rings when they call again.  I finally found peace in the evenings..

Get used to the personal intrusion, harrasment, and micro-management. It's just a peek into the future of ObamaCare.

I never asked for the calls. I never want to receive the calls.  If these so called nurses understand English as well as they can speak it, then we will all be happier.

I have had numerous calls from this same number and have added this number to my do not call list.  I still received phone calls, finally got tired of it and answered the call.  Some person identifying herself as a nurse from Cigna Health Insurance, had all my information:; ie: where I work, my address, my birth date, scared me to death.  She wanted to know if we could have communication about my condition, which I no longer have.  Told her no, this is an invasion of my privacy and asked me if I would accept mailings.  I agreed.  Lawyer intact. Also will report this once again to the do not call list...............................
