I received a call from someone who did not speak English very good. I was also told they were calling me from the U.S. Federal Govt. and I had been 1 of 1700 people selected to receive a grant from them. They gave me this number so I called it. I was told that I had reached the Treasury Dept and for me to go to Kroger Grocery Store and when I got there to call them and I would need to send them $279.00. processing fee which I would send and they would wire me my money. I told them I was going to contact my Attorney and let him handle it for me cause I thought they were trying to scam me. They immediately hung up.

Indian accent caller said I won 9,200 grant from US Treasury and that I needed to call 315-636-0795 to claim my free money.  I did not call - knew it was a scam.

So I got the same phone call... your confirmation number is GG4406.  So of course I also googled the phone number and found this and many many other sites!  After reading this, I decided to play with them.  I called, He asked for my confirmation number and then my name...I said doesnt the confirmation number pull up my information?  He hung up.
I called back this time a different not American man answered... same questions, he did not hang up at this point I asked him for the office address so that I can verify this is not a scam...hang up
I called back, a woman answered, she asked me the same questions,  I made up a name and she went for it, then I heard a mans voice in the background and she hung up... Its kind of fun playing with these freaks... I have called and told them that the police have been called, one man actually gave me his address as New Deli by the restaurant house number 102.  Then I told him I worked for the FBI and they will be investigated...hung up  I think I will just keep calling and bugging them like they bug us!  Ha Ha just called again and no one will talk they just leave an open line...  I have more than one phone and can play with them more!

I just received the same call stating I had won a free grant from the government. The lady had a thick accent and the background was very noisy. It did not sound like a federal grant office environment with so much noise. They gave me an ID #GG4406 and told me I was randomly selected from 170,000 people due to no criminal background and the fact that I had not filed for bankruptcy in the last year. The lady didn't ask for any other information other than my name but told me to go to the nearest moneygram at either a walmart or walgreens. She also stated that I was to give bring a photo id and $249 for a security deposit which I would get reimbursed once I got my $9,200 grant. She asked how long it would take for me to get to the store and I said 30 minutes and then forwarded me to another man who was to activate my account in order for me to get my money. Many things didn't make sense and I decided to look up the number (315) 636-0795 and found this page with people who had gone through similar situation. I will definitely be blocking this number and try to report it. DON'T FALL FOR THIS!

They are still at it!  This is total BS, don't fall for this crap.  Ask the caller who they are, full name, and the name, address, and physical location of their business.  They will hang up or give you some bogus response.  Will tell you to call this 315-636-0795 number and give you a confirmation number usually with "GGxxxx".  Pretty cool how you get a "Goverment Grant" and the confirmation number has "GG" in it.

I had a student had this happen as well. It is WITHOUT a DOUBT a scam! We are trying to figure out who to report it too.

I'm quite certain it has something to do with the publisher's clearing house.  Like you said, it wasn't long after I signed up that I started getting these calls.

Same SCAM scenario - Governmental Grant - $9200 - Call Treasury Dept with Grant ID # - That's as far as I went.

Just received the same call but from a woman with a heavy accent. Knew it was a scam from the beginning.

I just received the phone call from them and told me same $9200 and 270 for deposit and i will get all back in 15 min.

That's the same one I got yesterday! It's ridiculous. They called me three times to bug me about it while I was at work so I finally called with the confirmation # just to get them to shut up. (I knew it was not the US government since I could hardly understand the accents at all and the connection was terrible)

I have been getting the same call all day i went and called with the confermation number and now they want 250 dollars to process my payment yea funny i am not stupid i (gts) google that [***] every time
