To my surprise, 315-724-4022 *IS* on the back of my BOA ATM card.  It says "From Outside the US call collect at 315.724.4022"  Why this number would be calling me is beyond my comprehension, however.  I'm inside the US, as are all my purchases.  I'll wait to see if my account really gets frozen to decide if it's legit.  I don't see anything on my account online and I'm not getting emails from BOA, though.

OK, in my case at least, it turned out to be legit.

I did have an email from BOA, and checking my account online there's a section for alerts, which had a notification that matched the email and the phone call.  The email and the alert had a phone number different from the ones on the card that goes through an automated thing that has you verify three recent charges.

Turns out that thesimsresource.com is in Sweden, so that pinged on the bank's radar when most of my purchases are at the Subway in Walmart across the street.

Keep your skeptic caps on, but don't jump to conclusions, either.  Check on all fronts before making a move.

DO NOT CALL OR RESPOND TO THIS NUMBER.. IT IS FAKE.. IT IS A SCAM... DO NOT LISTEN TO THE POSTINGS THAT SAY IT IS COOL.. THEY ARE PART OF THE SCAM.. DONT LET SOMEONE ELSE GET  YOUR CASH. ALSO I AM INTERESTED TO KNOW IF ANYONE HAS BEEN PROVIDING THEIR PHONE NUMBBERS TO RANDOM PEOPLE OR TO ADS POSTED ON CRAIGSLIST FOR THINGS FOR SALE OR PERSONALS.. WHEN YOU DO THAT YOU ALWAYS RUN THE RISK OF PROVIDING YOUR CONTACT INFO TO PEOPLE WHO POST SOLELY FOR THE PURPOSE OR ROUNDING UP PHONE NUMBERS JUST FOR THIS PURPOSE.. PEOPLE BE AWARE OF DANGERS YOU ARE EXPOSING YOURSELF TO.. AND REALIZE.. YOUR BANK.. WILL NOT .. WILL NOT.. WILL NOTTTTTT.. JUST CALL AND LEAVE A VOICEMAIL WITH ANY INFORMATION OTHER THAN A CALL BACK NUMBER.. THEY WILL NEVER GIVE REASONS ON VOICEMAIL LIKE A HOLD OR SUSPICIOUS ACTIVITY.. THEY WILL ONLY SAY CALL THIS NUMBER..

While in Houston for my future daughter in law's bridal shower this weekend, I went shopping and purchased shoes and a dress. After that, we went to dinner...remember it is Saturday night, and when the check for dinner came, I handed them my BOA debit card...which I was told minutes later by the waiter, was declined. I tried calling the number on the card, and after verifying everything short of my blood type, found out their customer service was only Monday through Friday 8-5, and Saturday 9-1....the only option was to press 9 to "Freeze Your Account," which I did not, since I thought if I went to a BOA ATM, verified my card with my PIN, I could get cash out....it verified, but said "We are sorry, we are unable to complete this transaction," and returned my card...I reinserted my card and checked my balance....it was over $5000.00, yet I couldn't get a nickel out! If I only had that one card on me I would have been stuck like Chuck...couldn't buy gas to get home, get money out to eat, couldn't get a customer service representative to help....what happened to 24 hour customer care????  Yes, BOA SUCKS...tell them you will move your money and they laugh! I moved my business account to another institution, then I moved my personal checking...now I guess I am moving my other checking account and savings! And they probably won't even notice!!!!

Yea, the number may be correct, but if you miss the call and it is outside of business hours (M-F 8-5, Sat 9-1) you will not be able to do anything until the next day....I am in Houston, and last night, after shopping for clothes and shoes for my son's upcoming wedding and for the bridal shower, found my card to be declined when paying for dinner...good thing I don't just have BOA cards! When I called the number on the back of the card, my only option to speak to a representative, would be if my card was lost or stolen, to have my account frozen. Otherwise, I would have to wait until Monday to fix my situation. I hate it when they babysit my cards, and think I never travel...I travel all the time! and when they see charges outside of my home area, they make an automated call and when it is not answered, they freeze my card just the same. You can't win with BOA...What kind of a bank has B.O. in it's name, anyway?

This is a legit number.  I am a new BOA customer and I was making some rather larger purchases and my account was flagged.  I called the number back and it was BOA fraud unit.  They wanted to confirm that these purchases were vlid then they nfreezed my account.  It was a pin but it is better than someone else spending your money and then you have to jump through a lot more hoopes to get it back!!!

I received a call from this number this morning.  They left a message for someone other than myself.  I am currently on the phone with BOA.  They said that they WILL NOT CALL YOU to report suspicious activity- they'll put a hold on your card and wait for you to call them, which is EXACTLY what has been done in the past when they've seen suspicious activity.  This is not one of their numbers, and there is no suspicious activity on my account.
DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE YOUR INFORMATION.  THIS IS A SCAM!!!

You are obviously part of this scam.  First of all, BOA has one of the best fraud departments out there.  When you report fraudulent charges to them, they immediately place the EXACT amount of the fraudulent charges back into your account.  They send you the fraud paperwork next.  Pending the outcome of their investigation, they will let you keep the money they've given you or will take it back (if it is not a legitimate fraud).  So there's really no "jumping through hoops" as you say.

BOA never asks for your pin number.  There are two other types of passwords they verify with you, but nobody could use these passwords to get money out of your account, i.e., they are NOT your PIN number.

Seriously, why would a bank ask you for your account number?  They already have that information!!!

seriously?  anyone who goes to the BOA website can easily see that there is not specific contact info for their "fraud department".  Not only that, you idiot, all of their contact numbers are toll free.  They don't have Syracuse, NY contact numbers, mainly because there are no departments within BOA that work out of Syracuse.

All I have to say is kharma is a b*tch.  You are obviously part of this scam, and your deeds will come back to you.

Got a second call from them, and now a text message.  The text is from 70650 and asked me to call 866-459-9195.  I called my cell phone service provider and asked them to put a block on this code, so hopefully I won't be getting more texts.

I have also called BOA and reported these numbers as well.

For a giggle, I called the number back (from a land line), and their cheap BOA imitation music was cracking me up.  I'm thinking of calling back just to mess with them!  LOL!

I got a voicemail from this number, then an email from BofA. The call and the email came within 3 minutes of each other. They were both legitimate. They went through every transaction with me from the last week. It was all correct. The number you call is 1.877.833.5617. The 315 number is a number the fraud department calls FROM.
I did do unusual transactions (for me) and were what their system considered "suspicious". I was out of town, too, not at the usual places I shop and bank. I actually appreciate that they contacted me.

They never ask for your full SSN, just the last 4 digits. That's not enough to do anything illegal. This is a legitimate phone number, confirmed with BoA.

The number is not in their records because they're not looking in the right place. This is contracted through a 3rd party company most likely, but is completely a legitimate number. They let me know the last 4 digits of my credit card and several transactions on my account. If someone malicious had that information, they wouldn't need to be calling me up for 4 digits out of my SSN, would they? Use a little common sense people!

    It's a legit call from BoA's (poorly-designed) fraud-sniffing automated computer program/system.

I tried to make a bank-based-ATM withdrawal for $60 at 9am one morning while I was out of town, after making a $300 withdrawal at the very same ATM late the previous night (which it properly dispensed). BoA denied the 9am transaction and put a hold on my debit card. By noon, just three hours later, I had a received a call from THIS telephone number (which left an automated voicemail regarding the situation. The message directs you to another automated number which tries to grill you about who you are and your recent transactions). I called the known/official BoA number, got thrown to one of those Indian call centers, spent 15 minutes answering silly questions, after which the hold was removed.

The banks, especially Citi and BoA, are just getting downright dopey about this sort of stuff.  Virtually any physical charge/withdrawal I make while out of town over $100 - bought a tv in a store down the road four hours from here, withdrew cash on a Vegas trip, whatever - automatically results in 'the third degree,' rejected transactions and/or card freezes that take no less than an hour to resolve. That despite any activity on file that would suggest no cause for alarm. In this case, I had just used my BoA CREDIT card to close my folio at the hotel. Then I turned right around and used my BoA credit card to make the withdrawal just denied on my debit card. In Vegas, same thing, in fact I had also physically appeared at a BoA teller window with passport & driver's license ID to make a cash withdrawal less than 24 hours earlier. All excellent reasons to know I am actually in those towns and spending MY money. All this nonsense proves to me is that the banks are all but totally incompetent at telling the difference between actual fraud and legitimate account activity.

So anyway don't be real surprised if you get a call from this BoA number, even if you think there's no good reason why you should.

There would be no way for a scammer/phisher to know my phone number and call it just after the transaction was denied. Still, it's right to be suspicous of this type of call - unless you have good reason to suspect that the bank's sniffer HAS been triggered (rightly or wrongly) by something.

If it makes you feel better, just call BoA direct. You'll eventually get routed to a live person who'll ask you the same silly stuff and clear your account flag.

Oh, keep in mind that Caller IDs CAN be forged. You can't assume this is a legit call simply because this is the number you see on your own phone.

Call BoA back yourself, direct, using a known/official phone number.

And yes, thanks to the previous poster, I checked ... and this number was indeed on the back of my BoA debit card.
