- Sir Bedevere replies to NJ CUstomer| 1 replyThe number is indeed a legitimate BOA number... but that doesn't mean it was BOA who was calling: Caller ID is easily faked. Scam artists program their Internet phone (often outside the U.S.) to display the phone numbers of Bank of America (or HSBC or Citi or whoever) in hopes of tricking people.
The number one rule is: DON'T BELIEVE WHAT CALLER ID TELLS YOU.
If you get one of these calls you should always hang up and then phone the bank yourself - just to be safe call the number printed on the back of your credit card, no matter what number appeared on Caller ID. The worst that can happen is that you'll waste an extra 30 seconds of your time. - Mitch replies to Sir BedevereYeah, it is legit. BofA SUCKS. They cancelled my card and it will be 5-7 business days before I receive a new card. I now also have to change all my auto-pays with the new card and I will also have to hope that there are no declines for services ie electric. There was NO fraud activity on my account, they just decided to interfere/interupt my account for no reason. I HATE BofA
- MadYes it is Legit...I checked my bank account and sure enough someone tried to make 3 withdrawals totalling $1000...they did get away with $400...and the others were blocked and put on hold.
- bofa user replies to ryanoi just got a call from the number. i called my bank and it was them but all things considering - better to call your bank directly than be sorry.
- TexasI received a call from this number, but instead of returning the call to that number, I contacted my local BofA branch. Actually I was too late to speak to my personal banker, so I called the customer service number 800-432-1000 and they did indeed confirm that there was a hold placed on my card.
I explained that this was impossible, as I was looking at my account online and nothing seemed amiss. They insisted that there was a possible compromise problem and they were going to disable my card. I demanded a supervisor and got one. She explained that they receive warnings from financial institutions, retailers, and law enforcement and that although it didn't appear there was any suspicious activity on my account *yet* there was a possible compromise in the works. (Probably if I had responded to the phone call I got from this number that rang once and went to my voicemail.)
So they are issuing me a new card and rushing it to me by Saturday (It's late Thursday afternoon here so it's a rush job and they're waiving the $20 fee since this wasn't anything I did) and I'll still be able to use my old card for a week or so.
The phone number is a scam, but it alerts you to a very real situation. Call your bank directly with the number YOU have, not the one some voicemail gives you.- Caller: Unknown
- Martin in MemphisI received 2 calls. The second time they left a message to call 866-242-6289 and gave me a six digit code to reference. Its BofA security dept calling to verify unusual transactions on an ATM card. I spoke with a BoA rep and verified the transactions. This 315 number was legit for me.
- Caller: Bank of America
- DALA/MilwaukeeThis scam continues. If you get a call from ANY credit card like company telling you "reduce your rates", "refinance cheaper", or any other kind of money-saving deals, it's FAKE. You own credit card companies NEVER, EVER call you to offer you "better deals" in this manner.
I've called all of our actual card companies and this is verified by them all.
Go to https://donotcall.gov and report it, IF you're clever enough to be on that list. At the very least, give the place the negative record they deserve.- Caller: Automated system, no human
- Call type: Telemarketer
- Char replies to FRAUD!!!| 108 repliesIt isn't a SCAM! It's the automated system from B of A's ATM/Debit Customer Protection Department. They are calling because unusual/irregular activity has been detected on the card. The number is actually on the back of the card as well, but it says call collect. Once transactions are verified as legit the temp hold will be removed and you'll be able to use your card as normal.
- Char replies to stuck in HoustonThe ATM/Debit Customer Protection department is open 24/7/365. 877.833.5617 is the direct number to the department. Once you receive a call, txt msg, or email alert it means the temporary hold has already been placed on the card, it isn't placed if you don't answer.
- Dixie NormousYou people must believe the world is flat too..
It's legit morons.. BOA called to verify a transaction that I just made for a large amount.- Caller: Bank of America
- Angry PersonI am currently on the phone with BOA and it is FRAUD! They called and asked for my husbands ID, the CVC on the card and the expiration date. I called the bank and they canceled his card and are sending him a new one. DO NOT GIVE THEM ANY INFORMATION!! It's Sunday for god's sake. No bank calls on Sunday.
- Caller: Claims to be BOA
- jessathis is a valid number - the recording is from Visa (that is how it can be from both BOA and Chase banks). thanks to this site i did call BOA after i received the automated call and was informed that it was true and Visa had alerted them to "suspicious activity" on my card. i am being sent a new card in the mail - as the automated message stated.
- Do the calling yourselfAfter 414 entries & 19 pages- It is not important if this number is real or not. NEVER give personal information on any phone call you did not make. NEVER click on a link in an email or text message. Bank account, utilities, credit card. Use the number from phone book, statement or back of card. Phone numbers & web pages are easily faked. In a phone call you can be talking to anyone. If you think there is a problem, make the call yourself.
- Not MonitoredThis site is not monitored so take it for what it is worth. I did get the call from 315-724-4022 and I did not call BOA. I checked my account online and no issues. It does feel like a scam.
- Jess MThis is legit someone got my card number and was shipping things via USPS.
- Frankreceive it today.... FBI should get involve it and it is what our tax paied for.....
- Caller: AT&T
- JimDefinate SCAM.. B oaA does not have mt home non published phone number. Suspicion occurred right away as a result of this fact. Also I could not figure why the "out of country" contact number would be calling me. I took theproblemto B of A and talked to a personnel banking specialist ( Hector), who confirmed that this is a SCAM. Do not give anyone at this number any data about yourself or your accounts. The absolute best thing you can do is to ask ant person initiating the call to identify you by name. If they do notknowwho you are they are obviously scammers.
- KenLegit. Had two missed calls today from this number. Went into my online banking and I did have an alert put on my account. Called in to the 800 number listed online and got it cleared up.
- Caller: Bank of America
- NOT A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!Initially I thought this was a scam, but I just called the BOA number on the back of my card and spoke with a BOA representative who confirmed that my card was compromised.
If you think this is a SCAM, call the number listed on your card just in case or go to the bank.
I hope this helps
