It's not a scam -  unless they managed to hack into BofA's website and post the same alert on my account.  I received automated recording call, text message, and had the alert on my bank account website.  The gent I spoke with said that my debit card  is listed among those for a company who's financial transactions were compromised.  He couldn't tell me which company, as they are not given that information, but he did say that it could have been a vendor I shop with or a clearinghouse company used by a company a shop with.  He also said there are confirmed fraud activities on some of the compromised cards.  They are cancelling all cards potentially compromised and expediting new ones to their customers affected. Since he was able to cite transactions I made yesterday, that I was looking at listed on my bank account, I presume this is legit - but I guess I'll know for sure when I do or don't receive my new card tomorrow.

First I got a text from them (855 number)  THEN a call (315 number),  and it was indeed B of A where I have 2 debit cards. I called them after I got the text which had a legit B of A phone number I recognize. No one asked for my SS. They stopped a $59 charge from overseas and cancelled my card. I am grateful, as I have had probs with this company before. I was actually pretty impressed B of A caught it.            It's possible those of you getting calls without B of A accounts etc, can be computer error, wrong number etc.  I'm a 54 year old woman living in Oregon who works on the garden not computer scams, plays in the forest not masterminding how to beat people out of their money and I think all these conspiracy theories just say you all need to get out of the house more!

Absolute SCAM.  Got a call from 315-724-4022 saying my B of A card was breached.

This call is legitimate. BofA sent me new Debit cards because one of the places I used my debit card may have been compromised. This call simply notified me that they were sending me new cards and deactivating the old ones.

It has to be a scam. I've been getting calls on my home phone for two weeks from BOA at 315-724-4022. I have never had a BOA card and I have never done business with BOA. They aren't calling for someone who might have previously had my phone number because I've had this number for 13 years.

I have received calls from BOA in the past and answered one. The person with a middle eastern accent told me my husband's BOA card had a $300.00 balance on it and they wanted me to pay it immediately. I was asked for my husband's SS#. Of course, I don't give personal info out so I asked the caller to give me the SS# they were calling about. He told me he couldn't give me that info and attempted to cite privacy laws and tried to tell me that by law I had to give him the info he was asking for or he would have my husband and me arrested. I told him he was a loser and no one in our household has ever used BOA and never will. He tried to tell me the man can have accounts and it's none of the wife's business. Well, yeah they can, but mine doesn't. I finally told this moron that I would believe him if he sued my husband for the money. Never heard another word from them.

Also, as I read a post above, my caller ID shows Bank, of America with the comma after Bank, which is incorrect.

I work for Bank of America and this is our fraud department calling to verify suspicious activity on your card which they have been monitoring. They are basically seeing if it is you specifically conducting these transactions. BTW @Jenny... They are not calling from overseas collect. It's them saying that "IF THIS IS an operator calling from overseas that BofA will 'yes' cover the collect call charges." The bank will eat the cost of the collect call just to protect their customers.

Also if you try to call the number back it will direct you to the general customer service number which you can find on the back of your debit card. I laugh when I have customers come to me saying that they have been receiving fraud calls from the number 315.724.4022 and that it's suspicious. It's ironic because it's YOUR transactions that have been suspicious that the bank is trying to verify.

These calls should be coming from Utica, NY, USA

If you call the number on the back of Bank of America debit card, they will confirm the number is legit and simultaneously, indirectly confirm that you are all conspiracy theorists.

I reiterate, call the number on the back of your Bank of America debit card or go into the local branch to confirm that this is in fact the real 'Debit Card Customer Protection Department' from Bank of America.

My debit card was hacked, and was used for various transactions. And then called the number up on BOFA account concerning fraudulent activities reporting, cancelled those transactions, and cancelled my card and got a temporary card. But the next day, i started getting call and voicemail from 315-724-4022 as posted above asking personal information .And I checked with Bank of America officials, and confirmed that its not from Bank of America(I have a transcript of their confirmation) .Please be careful while you give out critical info on call. this is such a big scam that even the abuse department didn't know about it yet!! It is totally fake and the number does not belong to BOA... The people are in Mexico and getting all your info to use later!! Call them and use a fake number and you will still get through. I talked to Daniel but no last name and no address. He said its against the rules!! Its because he's fake!!!!

This is such a big scam that even the Abuse Department at Bank of America didn't know about it yet!! It is totally fake and the number does not belong to BOA... The people are in Mexico and getting all your info to use later!! Call them and use a fake number and you will still get through. I talked to Daniel but no last name and no address. He said its against the rules!! Its because he's fake!!!! I talked to the Abuse line at BOA and they confirmed it is FAKE and the number don't belong to them any more. Sure hope BOA fixes this before it gets out of control !!

Sorry dear but you are wrong!!  I just talked to a guy that answered the call i made to that number and he said he was in Mexico. RED FLAG #1, And they don't call you from that number at all RED FLAG #2, And BOA no longer has that number , it has been discontinued, RED FLAG #3. BOA will turn your card off then you have to call them to get it back on, THEY DON"T CALL YOU!!!! And I talked to BOA( the real one) and they said it is so new of a scam that they haven't heard about it yet!!!. So Sorry, you need to check out work a little better..

Wow... all this back and forth nonsense on whether this is a scam or not. To be honest, it is not a scam. Yes, you do receive a phone call from the 315-724-4022 number. After a period of a minute or so, an automated voicemail is left. The voicemail states that it is BofA notifying you of unusual activity on your ATM Debit Card with the last 4 digits.

It then asks you to call their fraud department at 877-248-6276 (which is a message retrieval service offered by BofA and is also backed up by a text message you receive as well) by a specific date and use a specific alert message number. I since checked my BofA account to verify this and it was plastered RIGHT ON THE PAGE:

We've placed a restriction on a card associated with this account due to some unusual activity.  
ATM/Debit card XXXX
Please contact us at 1.877.833.5617

The second number connects you to their fraud department. This is all valid.

The point being, people should not trust a phone call - they should call the number on the back of their card since there are obviously scammers spoofing numbers here.

This is also quite valid but even if the number was spoofed, the same number is listed at the very bottom of the BofA card. "From Outside the US call collect at 315.724.4022". That being said, I'm not disagreeing with you anon.

I disagree with Char, etc. because I don't bank with BOA, I don't have a  card with them so why are they calling me & telling me my card has been compromised, etc.  I hung up.

They read back 3 transaction I placed yesterday and unlocked my card after I confirmed them.

Is it possible that you were recently assigned the phone number they called?  They could have been reaching another customer if they switched phone numbers and you just received that number recently.  It certainly is not a scam.
