- KP replies to PamalaThat's EXACTLY what his text to me said! I told my friend the same thing, why doesn't he at least use a different name.
- ccGot the same BS text from this so called Turner Construction guy. He used 314-641-1793. Name is Rick Smith or that's what hes using with me. I'm in Virginia, I had my furniture posted about 3 hours before he text me.
- Candace replies to MissquitoJust received the same message word for word!
My name is Rick Smith. I am buying this as a surprise,I work with Turner Construction,we are currently working at a very rural area which makes it very hardfor me to make phone calls. I have a Mover who will come for the pickup, I will be making the payment via PayPal that is the only payment option .I have somequestions for you; Are you the first owner of it? Where do you live? Does it have anything negative i should know about?
Almost identical bit different phone number.
443-779-8003 - Kristin AllenI just had this same person (Rick Smith) try to buy something from me off of Craigslist. He texted me from 631-861-9059. PayPal confirmed that this is a Phishing Scam.
- BeegI was selling furniture on Craigslist and got the same scumbag. I Yahoo'd Rick Smith Turner Construction but no red flag, so I gave him my Paypal email address and physical address. But then my spouse used Google and we saw this site! I can't believe Yahoo didn't pick this up. I changed my Paypal address now so they can't do anything, but who would be stupid enough to send anyone back money and not ck your account to begin with?

- Exact same scam| 3 repliesReceived a text from this same person for a living room set I was selling. Message from scammer:
Livingroom set - $900 Send me a text if you still have it available, am interested. So I responded that it was still available. Then he responded: My name is Rick Smith. I am buying this as a surprise,I work with Turner Construction,we are currently working at a very rural area which makes it very hard for me to make phone calls. I have a Mover who will come for the pickup, I will be making the payment via PayPal that is the only payment option .I have some questions for you; Are you the first owner of it? Where do you live? Does it have anything negative i should know about?
I then informed him of the condition and where it is stored but no information about myself. He further texted me: Thanks for the details and time, i want you get back to me with your paypal email address for me to make the payment and also the pickup address to forward to the hauler who will be coming for the pickup once the payment is made and cleared.
Thankfully I came across this site before taking further actions.

- CarlyHe used the number 631-861-9059. Stated he was from Turner Construction and this was a surprise for someone. He used all the same catch phrases as above. As soon as I told him I was reported him, he stopped texting me.
- G. replies to Robert P| 1 replyI got the same message for a table I'm selling for $1500. Thanks for posting these stories guys otherwise I would've been out of $980! I will attach the email so you can red what he asked for. I forwarded all emails to PayPal.
From "Rick Smith" :
Hello ,i have made the payment so i expect that you should have gotten an email from PayPal any moment for confirmation, and i will suggest you check your PayPal email in-box and SPAM/JUNK BOX BECAUSE THEIR EMAIL SOMETIMES END UP THERE.I want you to know that i added an extra fee of $880 to the total payment which i need you to help send to the agent coming for pick up and it needs to be sent via Money Gram as that's the only way they can get it. I am sorry i should have informed you but i only got the urgent message from the pick up agent that they will need the funds before they can come to pick up when i was about making the payment. i have been in contact with PayPal about the situation of our deal and i was told accurate security will be put on this transaction and that you are required to follow some instructions before the funds will be made available to you which i was told you have been notified with the steps.I also added $100 the Money Gram charges. Please help to send the pickup agent fee to my pickup agent and get back to me if there's anything you need to know more so i will need your home address for the pickup of the item.Below is the pickup agent information.

SCAM.- Call type: Text message
- DaFoxScammers use Craigslist and other online buy/sell sites to troll for victims.
Sometimes they request to do the transaction through PayPal or other online money transfer services and some use fake or stolen checks.
Bottom line, they have no interest in getting the item you are selling, only in tricking you into sending them money.
Look for the signs of a scam in the examples below:
Here is how the "PayPal Scam", or any other online money service money-laundering scam, works:
They say they will buy your item, unseen.
They say they will pay you extra money to cover the shipping charges through their shipping company or agent or to cover any fees.
They request your email address linked to your PayPal account.
They instruct you to wire the extra funds they send you to their shipping company or agent or person who collects the fees.
You receive a invoice from PayPal to your email, stating the funds have been deposited to your PayPal account.
So, you use your money to wire the funds to the shipper.
You then find out the PayPal email was fake, it was sent by the scammer, there were no funds deposited into your PayPal account.
The money you wired, was really picked up by the scammer, it is unrecoverable.
You are out the money you wired.
Here is how the Cashiers Check, Money Order, or Bank Daft scam works:
As above, they want to pay you extra to cover shipping or fees.
In these cases, the check you receive, for funds over the amount of your item, is forged, stolen, or counterfeit.
As above, you are instructed to wire the extra funds to another party.
As it may take several weeks for the banks to realize the check is bad, you may not know you have been scammed for some time.
Worst yet, as you passed a bad check, you can be held criminally liable.
You are out the funds you wired, return check charges, and face possible arrest.

Do not try to deposit or cash them. - Kanajune replies to MissquitoI just had this one pulled on me today for some antique furniture I placed on Craigslist. Rick Smith of Turner construction, using #631-861-9341 texted me with pretty much the same text as your post. It sounded legit but something told me to Google his name and voila I found this. sigh. Too good to be true I guess.
- TainkySame message each time i posted.. The numbers that were used were ... 914-820-0415 and 631-861-9341.. I called paypal and they said to forward the emails to them.. And why would you use paypal and send a money gram when they do it all there. My response to the "person" was... Get A Real Job, and Quit scamming people!! ... And a few more choice words about his mother being so proud and so on... If you get a text from this person pretending to be from PayPal, do not click on any links in the emails, they could get into your accounts.. Change passwords, etc. the first time i googled the person, it was for someone that had been in prison. I said, Maybe you need to go back and get a "girlfriend". Lol.. I hope no one falls for this scam.. They used the name "Jennifer" and "Rick Smith".
