I used to belong to ExploreTalent.com -- they still call and send me audition alerts, but don't give full details because they want me to join first. Site is advertised as free, but they are not. However, I probably will join again in the future when I can afford it because they do give you free business cards and help match you to several auditions. Just know that most of the auditions you're sent to are for independent projects/films that rarely pay. If you call them they will eagerly try to get you to join and ask for your credit card info before you've even agreed, which is annoying. But if you join for a year it's $200, which works out to about $16/mo.

that's where I am confused.  Agencies want money usually too, don't they?  This explore talent thing has so many pros and negatives I am finding it is hard to decipher!

Got a call today and the lady kept saying hello and asking for me by name. Since she obviously couldn't hear me I hung up. I am sure glad I checked the number out on this site. It was the only one I found that gave info for free. Thanks!

Called me yesterday sayin that I was tall and that they think I would be a great choice for Ed Hardy model that paid 8 stackz also numerous roles for movies so I said soundz gud then he (Aaron) asked for my credit card number I was like naw man im gud, idk bout them im very iffy, should I do it???

They call you and make you feel special and drop on you the $199 fee to be able to get anywhere.  The thing is it's a pure gamble and there is no guarantee that your $199 will get you work.  It could be a bad lead!  It's like those dating sites that they tell you that you have matches, but have to pay the a fee to get information.  Often it turns out the "matches" are not for you.  At least with real agencies you pay 20 percent and you KNOW you have work!

If you are EVERY asked for money for ANY reason by any agency, it is NOT legitimate. I used to work as a talent scout for Elite Model MNGMNT in Beverly Hills, CA. It is the same for actors and models. If you are asked to pay for ANYTHING, DO NOT JOIN THAT AGENCY, they are aiming to steal your money honey. Only reputable agencies take a percentage 10% -20% of what you actually earn AFTER you work the job, not before you work the job. PLEASE DO NOT BE FOOLED

Sorry, but David,  and to all else, who signs up with any legitimate agency, you do not pay them, to do the leg work, not even for extra and atmosphere (background) or lead parts. Agents and agency get agreed upon percentage once you get to work, that is the way it works, you "Do Not" pay out of pocket, through these agency's...even if you are non-union player...look up information, on these people, just think just 1 dollar from thousands of people...that's how they are making a living...find out in your town how you can find companies, so when TV or a Film is shooting there.  Unfortunately, the only ones I know of are usually in L.A. Ca, NYC a few in Las Vegas area...but I am sure there are local casting companies in your area...if you have to travel to perform, model, etc...per diem, room, transportation, should be expected...and if you are going to do that. See about family or friends, living in NYC, or Los Angeles for a while, initial signup with Extra casting company, I believe they are in Burbank now...contact, unions like Aftra, Sag, Equity...and ask about these places you can start...out...Don't pay people, until they show you they can get you work...that pays you 120.00 or more...What these company's do are not exactly illegal, but if you want to be a pro, and working at it...Go with a real Casting agency's.

Not sure how they got my cell phone number.  But it is non the no call list.  This is def.  a scam.   Most agencies do not charge you.  They will pay YOU for your work when you work.
