For your information, the National Do Not Call Registry does not apply to charities, potitical organizations or legitimate survey researchers.  The University Survey Research Center conducts telephone surveys on behalf of Medicaid, the Florida Department of Health, Florida Dept of Transportation, UF College of Dentistry, etc.  They are a completely legitimate survey research center so this is no violation of the Do Not Call list in any way.  Check your facts before you make claims!

stop calling strangers replies to Piggy235
Yes, the law is very poorly written. In a just world, you and your filthy job wouldn't even exist. Fact is, nobody has to answer when you call, no one has to respond to your questions, and no one is obligated to be the least bit polite for you professional privacy invaders under any circumstances whatsoever. If you don't like, get a real job that doesn't involve calling strangers.

Vermin is all you are, filthy privacy invading vermin.

And that is "for your information."

My caller (UF, survey, etc. same as others) asked for a specific person by name.  Name was wrong and they said, "we'll take your number off the list" quickly and rudely, and hung up.

Regardless of how many times you post this statement on this thread, the truth is that your canvassers are rude and irritating.  If your goal is survey research then your methods should reflect an interest in actually accomplishing your goals-getting people to answer your questions.  Try being polite.

Just called and said they were from the Florida Department of Health and wanted me to take a survey and answer health questions. Yeah, that's what I'm gonna do, give out personal info on an incoming call. So, I asked if I could call them back and he said, "SURE!" at 1-888-536-2434. They are open 9-9 m-f and 9-3 Sat. That's when I knew this was definitely not from a Govt agency. weekends? lol.

Four unanswered calls from this number to my cell phone is the past 3 days...calls at all times of the day and Saturday.  No messages left. I pay for my cell minutes and have never used medicaid, transportation or any of the program mentioned previously.  No idea where they could have even gotten the cell number because I only give it out to friends never to businesses or goverment.  If it was legitimate survey, they should leave a message with details about calling them back.  Another waste of tax payer money from both ends.  They should call the people who get the free cell phones and use their minutes if they "have to" call someone.

Called and left no message on my answering machine.  I added the area code/phone number to my blocked caller list.

Do yourselves a favor folks and get a call blocker.  Sell a kidney and/or first-born if you must. :-)   I used money that I might have otherwise contributed to annoying political parties and charities.  After the constant calls, I decided to put the money to better use.  The resulting absence of annoying calls is worth it.

Original caller left a message to call back to take a survey about smoking. The next 2 times the caller hung up when my answering machine started.
Odd thing is the caller id showed UNIVERSITY OF F the first 3 calls from this number. Now it shows UNIV OF FL from the same number.
I have a call blocker and blocked this number after  the third call.

    You All Annoy Me
This number is a legitimate survey and research center. They collect important data on various topics that is used to IMPROVE programs that you all take for granted. This is an opportunity to have your opinions (however moronic they may be) heard. No one wants to steal your information, or sell your phone number. They're just trying to improve the Florida that YOU inhabit. It's exactly this type of self-centered apathy that is destroying the world.

Stop complaining that they call too much when you wont even answer the phone the first time! How else are they supposed to know what time to reach you besides experimenting with different times of day if you don't give any feedback.

I find it shocking that so many people are "too busy" to take less than 10 minutes out of their day to answer a few questions about the state they live in. This shock is near sickening when I realize that these are the same people who probably complain non-stop about these programs and the state of the economy, but are unwilling to do something as simple as a survey. I don't know what world you grew up in, but in the real world nothing changes without some action on the part of citizens.

They keep calling, but leave no message.  Reading the messages above this is a Medicaid survey.  I am not on Medicaid so there must be something else to this illegal survey.

Thanks for helping to keep us informed.

    Former Employee
I used to work at the UF Survey Center a few years ago. It is indeed a legitimate non-profit effort to gather information and the public's opinion (aka you and me) on different issues. The data collected from the surveys often helps alter health care, transportation and other legislation. If you sit through the surveys, this is one way to actually voice your opinion. Your number, name, etc. is encrypted and left out of any cumulative reports on data. The job mostly attracts UF & Santa Fe students so, on the whole, the employees are young and easily flustered. If someone is really outright rude, then I'd recommend getting their name and reporting them.

I know it's a pain to receive many calls a week or even a day no matter what it's regarding but this is not a a telemarketing scam, it's a non profit project and it can benefit you. Also when I was working there, we weren't allowed to leave voice messages except for a select few surveys. Tip: if you want the calls to stop, being on the do not call list doesn't apply. Saying "f--k you", "I'm not interested", hanging up or just continuing to not answer the phone won't stop the calls either. Employees literally must hear you say "I do not want not participate, please do not call me again" or something to that effect.

Tired of surveys replies to Former Employee
    | 3 replies
Former UF employee, here is what pisses me off:

    1) You call me multiple times and I pick up.  I say hello 5-7 times and can hear the person who called me typing on at least a couple of the calls.  The person who called me never picks up the line or is too stupid to turn on the microphone so I can hear them.  Either they hang up while I am still saying hello multiple times or I hang up out of frustration.  Every time I have gotten a call this has happened.  I get the call and the person on the other line never speaks to me.  Why call if you are not going to at least say hi??
    2) You call me at 7 in the morning.  Seriously.  We are in the same timezone if you are calling from Gainesville.  It's super rude to call anyone this early.  And if you are calling people on the panhandle side of the state this would mean you are calling people at 6 am (don't know if you are).  I don't suffer fools easily and have been known to rip people who call me this early that aren't family or an emergency.  I'm sorry if this hurts your feelings.  Actually, I'm not
    3) Nothing these surveys do will change state politics.  The only thing that will change state politics is term limits and voting the whole bunch of them out of office.  If you think otherwise, that's a fine opinion to have.  But it's just not reality.  As you get older and (hopefully) wiser, you'll figure this out and be just as jaded as the rest of us Floridians
    4) UF should put the money they are devoting to this silly center and lower tuition for all students.  That would be the biggest favor UF and the whole stupid endeavor could do for Floridians
