I received a call from this number today from 'attorney' Steven Johnson. He claimed that three years ago I took out a payday loan for $500 and never paid it off (the loan being true, the latter false). He claimed I needed to get him $500 while we were on the phone or there would be a warrant issued for my arrest tomorrow at 11 am. Obviously, this is untrue. They would definitely not warn me if they were placing a warrant.
He had my personal information - previous employer, address, and last four of my social security number.
Just a warning in case someone receives a call of this sort.

That's funny! The fraudsters have no clue how the legal process works in the U.S. & all they can do is hope that their targets don't either.

I received a call today from a 347 518-1811 with a ladies automated voice, requesting I contact 360 474-4772 to speak to an attorrney named Steven A. Johnson regarding a legal issue.  I called the number and a gentlemen answered stating he was Steven A. Johnson (spoke with a foreign voice).  He told me I have an outstanding paday loan for $700 and they sent me a number e-mails, similar to the e-mails mentioned. He would not divulge any infomation as to which payday loan company it was for.   When I started questioning him about the call and he became irrate and told me to shut up.  He also told me I need to have my lawyer contact him or I should resolve the debt immediatley.  He told me If I did not call back within 1 hour, legal proceedings and an arrest warrant would be started.   I'm not calling him back becase this seems to be a scam.  I received a call 2 months ago from a similar #, telling me I owe back taxes and I need to resolve it.  As one of the reponders stated, the IRS will contact you via mail, not telephone or e-mail.

I called the 347 518-1811 number back and its not a valid #.   Please be careful with these scams. Sounds like this firm works with IRS and Payday Loan debts which sounds bogus.  Most attorneys or collection agencies will contact you and provide you with a case or file #, if its a legitimate debt.  You may also receive, a letter in the mail.  The FBI dosent get involved in consumer matters of debt, so its odd they have the headquater informaiton at the bottom of their e-mail notification.  I just wanted to share this with everyone.

I received the same exact email, exactly, I called the fbi field office and they said that they do work with IC3 but that its .gov not .com like they listed, they did say that they don't warn you if you are arrested they just go to your home and that's when you find out if you don owe a payday loan or any type of signature learn there is a difference stated by consumer credit counseling with they ywca counselor I have its not a bounced check because at the moment they accepted the loan they knew the funds were not there, its not like giving a check with no money for merchandise, I believe this is a scam, I personally called the FBI and the said it sounds like extortion and a scam. I received the same email about an agent don Larson same badge number when I called they knew my name and social and said they represented American cash advance and i've never taken out a loan with them, I know who I owe, money too and its not then he said that if I didn't pay 475 dollars in 48 hours I would be issued a warrant for my arrest this is verbatum the email, I have never been informed that I have to be present for a court hearing and for that I would have to be notified, I received this email yesterday June 26th

I DIDN'T RECEIVE A CALL.  THIS NUMBER WAS INCLUDED IN THIS EMAIL THAT LANDED IN MY JUNK MAIL.  I'VE NEVER RECEIVED ANY "WARNING" AND I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY FIGURE THEY CAN THREATEN JAIL TIME.  I'VE NOT COMMITTED ANY CRIMES - SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKIGN ABOUT.  THE SITE LOOKS LEGIT, BUT I'M NOT CALLING OR DOING ANYTHING ELSE.  THEY WOULD NEED TO PROVIDE ME WITH FAR MORE DETAIL THAN THIS.

It's a scam perpetrated by foreign scammers.  Debt is civil, not criminal, so no one is going to be arrested or jailed.  And anyway, even if you had committed a crime, the cops don't call you to tell you they're on their way!  You can report these scammers - forward the email to the REAL FBI at their Internet Crime Complaint Center - www.ic3.gov - note that it's .GOV - government run websites always end in .gov - not .com.  You can safely ignore the scammers - they can't do zip to you.

This is a criminal extortion scam operating out of India. They are making the calls utilizing VOIP and the names of legitimate firms to make it appear the calls are originating from within the US. There is NO "company" or "debt" and you will NOT be arrested. They are harvesting and/or buying consumers' personal identifying information and you need to do whatever you can to protect yourself. This includes: Notifying the FTC: https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/, placing fraud alerts with all three credit bureaus, notifying your bank and employer and letting these criminals know you are aware they are attempting to extort money for a non-existent debt and have alerted the authorities.

I got the exact same call with the contents of this email.   I spoke to a Mr. STEVEN JOHNSON who has a very thick accent.  He told me to settle by paying $475 with his client or face going to jail tomorrow.  This is a scam.

I recieved the same voicemail about an arrest warrant. At first I was nervous and asked many questions. Of course, he didn't have any answers and said that he needed to speak to the authorities. When I asked who he was speaking to he said I don't need to call the cops. Of course, red flag. I listened to everything he wanted me to do. Put money on a prepay card and send him the information. After he hung up, I called my local authorities. I was told it was a scam, unfortunately they couldn't do anything because its a foreign caller and they route it to US states. That's why the voicemail was from Ohio and I had to call Washington. He called me back 2 hours later saying he hadn't recieved word of payment. I said I called the cops and they told me not to send money. He hung up on me. I tried to call back to get more answers from him but he never answered. Haha. Crazy.

I just got one of those calls a few minutes ago....almost exactly as previous posts on here....freaked me out...but then i looked and it came across as some weird number and the lady that left the message had a pretty thick accent.  I immediately looked on here for others who had received this message. I didn't get any email, just a voice message and actually a text message... Thank goodness people post on here....I, unfortunately did fall for a scam a couple years ago...and it cost me dearly.
