I have been getting calls on my cell phone, about consolidating my credit cards. Who are these guys, and where are they located? They even leave voice and text messaging. How do we stop this?

There's a possible explanation for the dead line or robo voice that says I'm sorry and hangs up. And for the fact that they never leave a voice mail. I found this in the New York Times:

"...More often than not it is a telemarketer — and one that complies with federal regulation. Indeed, adherence to the rules may be one reason for the ghost calls.

Most fingers point at telemarketers who use a predictive dialer, a device that makes hundreds of calls a minute and uses artificial intelligence to detect when a person actually answers. These are then connected directly to a telemarketer waiting to promote a new low mortgage rate, a political candidate or a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. If no one in the cubicle farm is ready to start pitching, the predictive dialer just hangs up.

Rick Morris, the chief operating officer of the predictive dialer company TouchStar, said that dialers are forced to hang up so abruptly by various regulations. He said that if no agent is available within two seconds, the predictive dialer must hang up because the Federal Communications Commission says the dialers cannot monopolize a line."

Sounds like the predictive dialer is calling all of us, and to add insult to inujry, the cubicle guy isn't free when we answer, so the telemarketers think they're somehow justifying it by saying "I'm sorry" before they hang up to "comply with federal law." Doesn't make me feel any better about the whole thing, but it's an explanation.

I think I posted this twice, sorry about that.

They called my cell phone but I hit the ignore -- didn't recognize the number and didn't leave voicemail either.  I figured it was a scam but thought I'd hop online to check and I was right...thanks!

Called my mobile number in 206 area code today. Didn't pick up (thanks to Google being fast enough to return this page.) Second one of these in one day (not the same company). Getting really aggravating. Entered another FCC complaint.

In the month of March both me and my husband have gotten calls on our cells from various phone numbers including this one.  Here are the dates and numbers I received:  3/3 810-732-2028, 3/30 801-520-1980, 3/4 406-530-5370, 3/8 304-445-6838, 3/14 701-920-9647.  These people are very rude to me when I ask them to take me off their list.  Cannot call them back just as everyone else states here.  I also filed a complaint with the DNC list website.  Not sure what they can do but hopefully these scammers will eventually have to stop.  Decided to get a whistle next time after I press 9 and get a live person.  Gotta have some kind of fun!

I received a call from this number and as soon as I heard a telemarketing recording I hung up. Tried to get ATT to do something about this, but they say all they can suggest is that I report the call to the DNC Registry, since my numbers are listed with them.  They say they do not have any internal department that handles this type of complaint. However, on two separate occasions I was able to get reps who said they made an adjustment to my account privacy settings that may help
stop the calls. One was generic and the other setting had to do with ATT "partners" that had access to my cell number. I still get these calls.
