I am going directly to the FCC with a written complaint about Portfolio Recovery.  I have no debt that they could be calling me about and at this point it is harrassment. These people call around the clock and I'm very close to retaining an attorney to initiate a restraining order.  Then we'll go after jail time and expenses.

I just got a call from them about a minute ago. Didn't pick up because: weird area code.  Punched up the Web to try and track it down, and ho HO, found this site.  I don't owe money to anyone in Pennsylvania or anywhere else, so  It has to be some kind of bot, and this is flat-out abuse of the phone lines. We'll see what those in charge think of their crap.

Seconding Rich on saying thanks, jjj.

I got a call from this number, on my google voice-but it has been blocked already together with other "weird" numbers":-so calls like this go straight to the spam folder. as jjj posted on july 13, open a google voice acct.-i have had mine for over two years now, and it's the contact number i use when I apply for a job, order stuff online, etc. Essentially, this is my business number so my cell is free for family and friends and more important stuff. so if Portfolio calls and it is legit they should have my cell number and actually leave a message, right?

It is not part of the business plan of these vermin to leave a message. The Best Congress Money Can Buy allows them to operate this extortion scam without end. They do not have to send you written verification that you owe anybody, much less them, a single penny. They do not have legitimate business with you. Therefore, they do not leave a message. The harassment is the point. Endless phone calls without leaving a message are designed to wear down the uninfomed parts of the population, who can be intimidated into giving these bullies, thieves, and thugs what they want: some cash, or better yet, access to your bank account.

Do not talk to them at all.

Complain to your state's consumer protection unit in the attorney general's office, and register a complaint with the FCC. The attorney general will at least force them to identify themselves in the caller ID. Your complaint to the FCC will add to the pile they already have, and perhaps some day lead to the Feds going after this outfit, though they have been politically protected up to now.

You can send them a cease and desist letter, by certified mail, return receipt requested. These vermin have permission not to return your receipt, as they are 'special:' ie, they receive thousands of such letters and the postal delivery people do not want to wait while somebody signs them all. Portfolio is "on their honor" to send them back later. Of course, Portfolio Recovery A$$holes have no honor, so forget about receiving your receipt. Still, there will be a record in the Postal Service data base that they received your letter.

I prefer not to tell them to cease and desist, as each time I get another call, it is an opportunity to let yet another part of the consumer public know what is going on here, and what total slime these people are. They were brazen enough to send me a 1099-C some years ago, on a totally unverified debt in the name of a person whose name is not mine, but whose Social Security number is. The attorney general's office wrote to them, and compelled them to write to me and answer my letter. They have an attorney named Pearson who they hired solely to deal with complaints from state attorneys general. He wrote to me to explain they sent the 1099-C because they had "decided to cease collection efforts." Mind you, that was not a debt anybody was able to verify. It was also two years and three months ago, that these pond scum had "decided to cease collection efforts." Today, this was call # 261 since they "decided to cease collection efforts."  So let them keep calling. In nearly four years, no one has ever so much as picked up the phone, and no one ever will. But as long as they keep calling, I will keep reporting their slimy operation.

Get several calls a week from Portfolio Recovery. The people on the other end of this call my be a bunch of low life illiterate cum drunk homosexual morons. Apparently, they have no formal education and cannot go out and get real jobs. I guess that they get their kicks masturbating while they are annoying people on the phone. I'll bet the parents are real proud of the fine upstanding citizens that they have become..... if they even know their parents!

They love me, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah!  Second call today from Portfoolio Recovery experts-- I think they need to sober up themselves, and consider what kind of karma they are gathering....verify the debt, or go pound sand.

Bottom-feeding pond scum, they live in a fetid puddle in Norfolk Virginia, despite the dozens of phone numbers and caller IDs they spoof. Once upon a time, they bought a printout from some bank nobody ever heard of, that probably got gobbled up by one of today's big banks. The banksters got excellent compensation for their losses, at your expense  -- (anybody ever compensate YOU for your losses?)  but these vermin would die for a chance to loot your bank account, to compensate themselves for the pennies on the dollar they paid for the time-barred stinky old debts symbolized by lines on the printout. They cannot prove the existence of the debt, or that you owe it, so ignore them. It's not your fault they gave some bank money for a printout showing written-off debts on it. But never miss a chance to inform others what slime they are.

Another unwanted harassment autodialer call from Portfolio Recovery Associated, located in Norfolk Virginia using a unconfirmed, unlisted/spoofed number out of Pittsburgh PA.

I purchased and use a Digitone Call Blocker from Digitone Communications to block any unwanted calls from these harassment calls.

    Digitone web site:  www.digitone.com

Filed FTC and FCC complaints each time they call to help track these unwanted/harassment calls so government agencies can monitor and close down with enough information obtained from these databases of complaints.

Second cal today from Portfoolio Recovery. This is #287 since they "decided to cease collection efforts" two years and four months ago. They seem to be getting desperate. In July, they called 8 times, and 10 in August, then 8 again in September. In October, it was 9 times, but it jumped to 14 times in November, and 15 in December. Now, here is is not yet the end of the month of January, and they have called 15 times already. I love when they call. It is yet another opportunity to a) not pickk up the phone, and b) let the folks on 800 notes know what sort of vermin they are: debt seems to be from some bank I never heard of, from 1997, has never been verified, they sent out a fake phoney 1099-C after they "decided to cease collection efforts" (mind you, on a debt they had never verified even existed, much less that it was mine, using a name I had not used in over a decade since my marriage) and, having "decided to cease collection efforts," these complete a$$holes have continued to call ever since. Go figure! Are they stupid or evil?

Rec'd a call from this number this AM.  No message.  Later received another call with a different number.
I called first number back and when asked why they were calling, the person answering (foreign voice) asked  for my Social Security Number and Name!!    I informed her I DID NOT GIVE OUT MY NAME OR  SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER  OVER THE TELEPHONE AND absolutely not knowing who was on the phone and why they were calling!!  She informed me she could not help me!!

I told her to remove me phone number.  She admitted that she COULD see the phone nunber.

The second number on my caller ID was702-410-9497 also listed as Portfolio Recovery.

My 13 year old (yes...13 year old) daughter has had a cel phone for 2 years, and since day one these scumbags have been calling her EVERY DAY!  Last I checked, she never had a credit card, loan, or any other debt, so I have to assume the previous owner of her cel number probably owned the debt.

    Pissed off
OK - I'll admit, I screwed up paying some bills - HOWEVER - these guys are verging on illegal (if not actually illegal) practices, first they tried to collect a debt that I fully intend to pay when I can, but I've had a tough time the past several years - that was out of the statute of limitations for collection. DO NOT SPEAK TO THEM - they will ask you if you want to verify the debt (which means to them dispute the validity), once you dispute it the clock for the statute begins all over again! Kind of like entrapment! OK, I owe it, I know it, and I will pay when (if ever again) I can - however they traped me into "disputing" it, by calling illegally, making it now legal for them to harrass me. Four calls from four different numbers, different area codes, multiple days, but at least four a day...some debt collectors now hire "work at home" debt collectors, maybe Portassholios are doing this as well. Never leave messages, and a reverse # search turns up some John Doe at their residence at some random place in the country, so it's almost impossible to prove it's them! The only way you know is answer the phone, they act like your long lost friend until they tell you who they are representing - then HANG UP and report them to your state AG office, documenting all numbers from whichever day. Two calls a day MAX [***] - no matter how many numbers they come from still TWO CALLS A DAY is all the law allows! Let your state AG figure it out.
All over $400, of which they will be the LAST ONES to be paid because of their BS tactics.

    Me
I get so my phone calls from Portfolio Recovery that I dont get mad anymore.  I play their game and waste their time. They keep telling me I have an outstanding balance with Newport News, I never in my life had a Newport News account.
If I see their name on my caller ID I answer the phone in Spanish and say "Hola" No hablo english! They hang up on me.
One time they call and I answer in Spanish, they transfer me to a Spanish speaker so I start to speak in French.  I Kept saying  "Wee". Again they hung up on me.
Another time when they call (Hahahahahh) I kept asking some guy for his phone number, I said it over and over and over again. I told him he sounded sexy, what are you wearing!!!  (Not) He had gotten so mad and then of course He hung up on me.
I wait for the phone to ring and I tried to think of ways to piss them off!!!  Really Try it!!  Its alot of fun!!!
