At 3:36 p.m. on August 20,2104, I received a call from a Julie Smith (sounded like a recording) telling me to return the call or have my lawyer return the call before legal action is taken against me by way of the IRS. I knew this was a scam because the IRS contacts you by mail, so I googled the phone number and found others have received the same or similar phone call.

I got a call and left message from this number asking me to call back to avoid legal actions from IRS. This  call is very very suspicious.  Do not give out your ID.

Received the same call today like others from 4152519813 in Boston, MA.

The caller left message twice with same "legal allegation" from the IRS. I am a CPA and I know IRS does not contact taxpayer by phone. I have a client who was contacted by the same caller recently.  

This number left me a message from Officer Julie Smith, (Smith give me a break)  Really the IRS???? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

How is it the government can send a drone after an individual but cannot stop these idiots out of the last 20 calls to my phone only two were people and not scammers

The message said I needed to call within minutes after getting the message LOL how would they know what twits

Got a call from this number saying I need to return there call or they will take legal action. I would like to report this and take my number off of whatever lost they pulled from.

My mom rec'd a messagel from this Julie Smith (IRS) to call ASAP or there would be legal action.   I phoned the number and this Indian speaking women (not the native Indian) LOL.   She proceeded to tell me that the taxes had not been paid since 2007 (right) and legal action will take place if we do not make payment.   I told her that we had never received letters from the IRS and that if we were going to continue the conversation, I wanted to speak to someone that spoke ENGLISH!!!   Ms. IRS then says "in 2 hours a policement will be at my door to arrest my mom".    I told her that may God have mercy on her scumbag soul.    

Lousy call.. had to play three times to understand... Scam, scam, scam....

I received a Recorded Voice Mail from Office Julie Smith from the IRS who has obtained an attorney and if I do not contact them they will be taking legal action. It sounds like a scam, I will be calling my friend at the IRS office and informing them of this scam. Phone number 202-506-9224

This is a Pakistan or India based IRS scam. Do not fall for it. The IRS does not initiate any legal action via phone.

As general background information, here are a few things you can do:
1) Report it to TIGTA under http://www.treasury.gov/tigta/contact_report_scam.shtml especially if you have become a victim (lost money, gave personal information etc.). You can also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov/complaint (include “IRS Telephone Scam" in your complaint). This way you can also help the government establish specific fraud patterns.

2) Help kill their phone lines. The scammers use Voice over IP lines (e.g. magicJack (Ymax corporation)) to make it seem as if they are calling from the US. This is always against these companys' terms of service and can lead to immediate termination of their contract and blocking of their IP addresses for future attempts to register. Do a reverse look up of their telephone number (e.g. www.whitepages.com) to identify the Voice over IP provider and report it to the company and or law enforcement (local police and/or state attorney general)

3) If you are really annoyed: call or write to your representative in Congress. As these scams happen all over the country maybe this will trigger a reaction and provide US law enforcement agencies with the political backing and the resources they need to work in India and Pakistan together with local authorities (it can happen, read: http://www.ndtv.com/article/india/ex-call-cen ... mmission-320427). I recieved the same call from Julie Smith at 202-506-9026!!!!!

An Officer Julie Smith 415 251-8899 was the number she gave. My answering service gave the number of origin of the call as 415 251-8890. She told me that I or my retained attorney needed to call her asap or action would be taken against me.

Same thing. Got a robo call from officer Julie Smith IRS to call her back. They have a new number to block 415-506-1663.

Julie Smith left a robo call message. I called back. The guy who answered had a foreign accent, Middle Eastern, Pakistani or Indian. He was difficult to understand him. I heard the word fraud, arrest and settle now. I told him I wanted to speak to his superior. He said he would transfer me. Then, perhaps his hold or mute doesn't work, I heard him shout, "Abdullah you talk to this b****". I hung up. I am going to buy one of those Panasonic or Samsung call blocking phones.

Received call from  computer voice "Julie Smith" of the IRS said not to ignore the call or legal action would be taken against us. When I called back 202-241-9749 it went straight to voice mail. Scam don't give out any information to these jerks!!!

But there's no way of stopping the calls.  You have to get a call blocker.

There is no supervisor.  They are all in the curried-rice pot together.   In India.
