5. Extended Auto Service Contracts: Solicitations come through the mail offering to help consumers save money on car repairs—enticing when Americans are not buying new cars and instead keeping used cars for longer and longer periods. The sales pitches emphasize the peace of mind you will have knowing the repairs on your used car are covered under the extended auto service contract.
Consumer Tip: Not every extended auto service contract is a scam. If you are thinking of buying one from a salesperson over the telephone, ask the salesperson to mail you a copy of the contract they are proposing before you buy. After receiving the contract read the fine print for disclaimers (i.e. pre-existing conditions not covered). Take it to your mechanic to determine if the contract will cover your current needed repairs or future common repairs with your mechanic. Hundreds of consumers registered complaints with the BBB in 2008 about misrepresentations and high pressure tactics. - NSReceived call from 416-000-5597 and 416-000-1397. They are obviously using fake phone numbers to mask the real origin. Is this Legal? I am extremely annoyed that I can't control my own phone line's use. We should be able to apply voice spam filters to our phones like we do with email.
- bennyhinn1 replies to justinmine was the same, no one talked when i picked up

- GregJust got a call to my cellphone number from this number. How the hell they got my cell number I'd like to know. Cause it's unlisted and I never put it down on the net anywhere. My cellphone is used as an Emergency phone for my line of work.
- Matt| 4 repliesGot call 5 mins ago. Answered and it was for my warranty about to expire on my vehicle and this was the 2nd notice.. Ok, whatever.. My warranty is done as of like 3 years ago.. Once a rep came on, she asked for my vehicles info.. If my warranty is almost up and they are calling, shouldn't they know for what vehicle this is affecting?? She hung up on me as soon as told her, they called me and should have this info..
A few 1-416-000-xxxx are from this company, but when asked what company they are calling from, they said "My Dealer".. Haha.. Reported to Rogers and changed ring tone to block all 1-416-000-xxxx nuumbers..
Ottawa, ON. Rogers Blackberry business customer.. lol.- Caller: Unknown

- Matt replies to 416-000-5597000 won't be a recognized number as NO prefix will ever start with a 0 or a 1.. 0 is operator, so as soon as ya dial 1-416-0 you will get an operator in Toroto.. And 1 is a long distance identifier.. No prefix will start with a 1 like 1-416-133.. Will NEVER exist.. Limitations of the technology used by telephony companies.. Unfortunatly, this is perfectly legal to mask your number.. Companies manufacturing telemarketing equiment do this al the time with no legal problems. Even the general public can use *67 to mask our own numbers.. :)
- Gerk| 1 replythis number has called my rogers cell 3 times so far today. I talked to rogers about it and they said that they hadn't heard anything about this (yet) and that they couldn't really do anything about it (even though they are clearly spoofing the caller id). The first one was at 6:30am which makes it all the more frustrating.

- Sarah replies to MattReceived two calls from this number this morning at 12:21 and 12:57. More calls were also received from the same number on a previous date. I txted the number back the first time asking who it was and also received some msg about car insurance. I don't own a car. I'm with koodo mobile and from London Ontario
- Alison replies to GerkI am with Telus and I started receiving calls from this phone number about three weeks ago. I haven't had the opportunity to pick up but I reported it to Telus and I got the same answer than the person using Rogers. It is so frustrating!!!
