that there's a complaint against me & SSN--that was it. She didn't give their name, my name, or SSN. Sounds alarming but it's totally generic. And your bank or IRS would not call like that.
    • Caller: didn't identify themselves, woman speaking, sounded robotic

They called me today, saying they had a complaint against my name. That I owed for a payday loan and they were filing fraud on me for not paying. They said I would pay one way or another and they were taking me to court. The somehow got my info, and former addresses. But got all the timelines messed up. Scamm.

If you call that number "Jessica" from "Capital Solutions" comes on and tells you that they are NOT debt collectors and they would NEVER call people up and tell them that a "complaint has been filed against your SS number" and gawd knows whatever else they are saying.  Lady would not give me any more information.  She's argumentative and simply is not telling the truth about what she's doing.

Just because someone on the phone calling you says you owe a debt does not mean you actually owe it.

If a voice on the telephone claims you owe a debt:

    1.    Demand the person give you his or her name, company name, and address
    2.     Demand a debt validation letter by US mail.  E-mail no good.
    3.    Do not pay  the collection agent or anyone else a  dime until the debt is validated

Of course they won’t do this, no scammer ever will, so simply ignore them and block their calls.

If they are bothering you, report them:

http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0149-debt-collection (Threatening civil proceedings with no intent to follow through, or threatening criminal process in order to collect a civil debt is a  violation of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.)  The same goes for endless telephone harassment

Note that the US Supreme Court in the Case of HENSON ET AL. v. SANTANDER CONSUMER USA INC., has recently ruled that the provisions of the Federal Fair Debt Collection Practices Act do not apply if the creditor owns the debt in question.  As a practical matter this probably won't effect the kinds of scam debt collectors who often show up on 800notes.  The scam collectors don't give you any information about themselves so it is impossible to know whether or not they in fact "own" the debt in question.  Most do not send debt validation letters and many often say they are collecting for someone else.  So, make the complaint anyway if they are bothering you.  Let the FTC sort it out.

Also contact your local attorney general

If they continue to bother you,  and you know you do not owe any money, tell them that you know this is  a debt scam and that you are making a complaint to the police for extortion.  Once you get a copy of the police report and they call you again , just read out the  file number and the name of the PD or Sheriff’s office involved.   Tell them you’ll be glad to send a copy to them at whatever address the jack***es are working out of now.

You'll probably have to yell at them and talk over them.
You have to get tuff with these people because,  being akin to thugs, brute force is (metaphorically speaking).   the only thing they understand.

    I'm not Nancy
Just like the others, I was called before 9am and the message left was that there was a complaint against my social security number. When I called them back, I asked who they were and they said Capital Solutions. They said they were looking for a Nancy and I'm not. I'm now wondering if this is one of those companies I've heard about that tries to get you to say Yes or No so they can record that and somehow use it against you to buy things.

They continually call and leave unwarranted messages and also call family/friends harassing them.  They have no justified means to make contact with me.  They say they are calling based on a complaint yet can't provide any information.

Called saying it was a documented and recorded courtesy call in regards to a formal complaint filed against my name and social security number and advised calling them back immediately.  Kinda hard to call a company back when they don't leave a number.

Call was from Blountville, TN to my business phone.  Caller left a message.  It was an automated female voice saying there is a complaint again my name and SS# and I need to call before further action is taken.  Message didn't say what company was calling nor did she leave a call back number.

The number they called on is a business phone number so I have to answer.  The recording said they were calling about a formal complaint filed against my social security number.  It gave the option to either call back or press "1" to talk to someone.  A gentleman answered the phone and said "legal department".  He 'searched' my phone number (which I did not supply) and said that they were looking for XXXXX.  I do know that person but I wasn't going to even go down that road.  I gave him the option to either never call here again or tell me what exactly he wanted.  He refused to tell me anything and said he 'wasn't interested in playing games' so I told him not to bother calling again.  He said he would call every day and I can't stop him.  I said "great!  I will record every call and turn you in".  That's when he hung up.  I did get him to say the so called business name he was with...Capital Solutions.

    Smarter than They Are
Received a call at the hospital I work at, pre-recorded message with a lady saying complaint had been filed against SSN#, blah, blah, blah......well if she doesn't even know my name how does she know my SSN? Ignore these people! It is only a scam! You would not be called if something like this was for real.  You would be served official papers from a lawyer, etc.  These people need to get a REAL JOB and stop trying to STEAL!
