I got a call today at work from 508-499-7181 stating they were Bob Cooper and that I had to pay money.  I asked what the company or cash lending service was that I owe and I couldn't understand him.  And he threatened to come put me in jail, I told him I work on Federal property and for the U.S. Government to go ahead and come get me.  He got rather blangerant (sp?) on the phone and I told him all calls are recorded and thank you for the information and hung up on him.  We will see if he calls back if he does I have to take the issue higher up with management and that won't be good.  I'm starting to think my information is leaked out there somewhere and not sure how.

Extortion Scam Related to Delinquent Payday Loans

The Internet Crime Complaint Center has received many complaints from victims of payday loan telephone collection scams. Callers claim the victim is delinquent in a payday loan and must repay the loan to avoid legal consequences. The callers purport to be representatives of the FBI, Federal Legislative Department, various law firms, or other legitimate-sounding agencies. They claim to be collecting debts for companies such as United Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Advance, U.S. Cash Net, and other Internet check-cashing services.

According to complaints received from the public, the callers have accurate data about victims, including Social Security numbers, dates of birth, addresses, employer information, bank account numbers, and the names and telephone numbers of relatives and friends. How the fraudsters obtained the personal information varies, but in some cases victims have reported they completed online applications for other loans or credit cards before the calls started.

The fraudsters relentlessly call the victim’s home, cell phone, and place of employment. They refuse to provide any details about the alleged payday loans and become abusive when questioned. The callers have threatened victims with legal actions, arrests, and, in some cases, physical violence if they do not pay. In many cases, the callers harass victims’ relatives, friends, and employers.

I received a call from a Kenneth Murphy telling me to call 844-224-8643 because I have complaints filed against me, when I called this number it says this is UFC??? But Kenneth Murphy called me from 541-248-1636??? Help anyone received this same call?

This is a extortion scam operation. Don't call them back. Do not talk to them period. Do consider  getting a call blocking device or phone.. You can google them and many are around $50.00 or so.If its a cell phone, some already have call blocking, if not, there are free apps on the web that will work for some. You can google this. If you have a smart phone, there is a free app called call control. Iphones appear to have apps also. Another one is called Mr. Number.
