I just got a call from this number. It was a woman's voice asking to speak to my husband, by his first name. I asked who is calling. Pause. Then the voice changed to immediately perky and different. Said, "oh, we can talk to you too, you people are hard to get hold of". I said who are you with. She said Chidlren's Cancer something or other. I said we have no money for that sort of thing. She chipperly said okay thankyou. The weirdest thing was the intitial voice that asked for my husband and how it changed to almost a recording type voice when talking to me. SCAM. Don't call up women asking for the husband by name if you expect to get anwhere with women. I was immediately suspicious. I blocked the number and found the exact number that had called me.

    Fundraisers are not telemarketers.

Sorry Sig, but I cannot agree with you.  Most of the so-called fund raising calls are made by the telemarketing companies, just under a different name.  The advent of the DNC sent the telemarketers searching for a new way to cold call people and get money.  In most cases these Call Centers have a contract with the "charity" that includes a fee for collection.  In many cases there is also a "minimum clause" which allows the call center to keep all of the money if a preset minimum amount is not collected.
Here are just of few of the exposés on these so-called charity calls:

    http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2012-09-12/char ... lemarketer.html
    http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0074-giving-charity

If you want to donate to a charity do it directly.  Go to that particular charities web site or call them and get an address before you give any money.  Recently I was called to donate to the Police Benevolence Association "in my area" (that's what the caller said).  I asked, "what area is that?"  The caller had no idea.  I called the listed number for our local association and they were completely unaware of any sort of charity collection.

I got a call from this number and of course did not answer,  they have called before and told them I don't donate to any charities as I don't feel the people that really need the help, don't get it as these a**hats line their pockets before any money would be give to the
kids.  I have also turned off my answering machine so these idiots cannot leave a message,  not that I would ever call them back.
I am on the DO NOT CALL LIST and that's a big joke.

This call is designed to make it look like it's local, i.e. someone you want to talk to.  But you do not want to. I forgot the first word that I heard but a few more words and I hung up.  Then I blocked it with my Windstream phone company.  Only trouble is that their Call Block plan is only for 12 numbers.  They do not provide for more yet.  I need more than 12 but will have to wait, but right now with so many numbers (scams, political or fund raising) out there makes decide who is the worst.  I am at max.  In looked around the web and I did find one guy that had a software program that gave you unlimited blocks.  It only worked if you fed you phone line into your computer and back out.  Something to think about.

You've identified this caller wrong. They are actually the Children's Cancer Recovery Foundation. The number they call from is 512-831-5441. They may also be shady, I just don't know, but let's be accurate in identifying these unsolicited callers.

You're wrong. This "charity" is listed on Charity Navigator and is rated 2 out of 4 stars. Last time I looked, they had $17 million in contributions and $16 million in expenses. Their net dollars left for charity out of the $17 million was $399,000. Pretty sad.

My elderly mother received a call from this number. The caller's name was given as "Vanessa". My mother said the caller sounded crazy and kept having trouble with whatever equipment she was using to make the call. She said "you're harder to get ahold of than a pickle in a pickle barrel" and finally hung up on my mother. What gets me about these scammers is that they make thousands of calls with the aid of a computer dialer. I'm sure they get a lot of busy signals, answering machines etc. When they FINALLY get a real human to answer the phone, they can't handle it and end up hanging up on the person receiving the call. It looks like an actual human would be a big prize for them but they just can't handle it. This happens daily.

    There IS a report on company: http://www.tampabay.com/americas-worst-charit ... tion-of-america
Report states they keep 80% of money collected but also states they recieved $35 million over the last decade and spent $21,000 a year on actual charity. My math comes to 6/10th of one percent per year going to the charity.

When I answered, the person said "you are harder to get a hold of than a pickle in a pickle jar". I ask her who was calling and what did she want. She started this spill about donating money for some cancer charity. There was no name on caller ID. if this was a legit charity, there name would appear on caller ID.  I hung up immediately. I do not like being compared to a pickle by anyone, but especially not someone I don't know and wants me to donate my money. Not happening.

    1)  I don't do business on the Lord's day.
    2)  I don't answer my phone.
    3)  I would never make a donation to someone who harassed me via phone, it's for MY use.
    4)  It really annoys me that folks use a TX area code, especially if they're from PA.

Another one blocked.  Wish "Call Type" had scam as an option.

Now everyone have a wonderful Sunday & a great Labor Day!
