Answered and the woman said she was calling for the Ronald McDonald House.  Said she had good news!  If I give $75 - $100 it will be matched/doubled.  They start high and then start to lower it when you resist.  Lately, I've been bombarded by calls from charities.

Do they really think anyone with half a brain will answer a call that shows up on the ID as OHIO?

This number keeps calling and calling. So tired of it all.

Who are these people? They always call and never leave a vm.

St Judes say they don't solicit that way and it most likely is some pretending to represent their hospital. I figure it is a scam.

I picked up this time and it was a telemarketer soliciting funds for St. Jude Hospital. While i support the hospital, I don't respond to phone solicitors. Told him to take me off the call list--said he would.

They just called me (on the home line) to thank me for my support St. Jude's Children's hospital(which is in Memphis) and asked for a $200 to $500 donation to support a new breakthrough form of radiation that would allow the children to remain themselves without usual sideeffects. I declined giving over the phone, the guy then offered to send me a packet in the mail; i declined.Sounded sketchy, thank goodness I saw the called was listed as Ohio.

I, like the rest of you, receive these calls all the time.  Our government is WORTHLESS when it comes to blocking these calls.  The only other course of action is this:  

Do NOT, under any circumstances, answer a caller you do  not recognize.  When you do all you are doing is confirming for them that they have reached a viable, working number and then they WILL call you back AND sell your number to other scam artists so they can call you too.   If they continue to call then first, check with your phone service and see if they have a call blocker service (mine does).   If I continue to receive calls from a certain number then it goes onto my "Blocked" list.  

Also, just pressing 1 or any number they say to remove you from their list is also a scam.   It doesn't work either.   Also, I turn off my answering machine when I am home.  If it answer then once again it only confirms the fact that they have indeed reached a "Working" number.   Have a pleasant day.  Sure am glad too for websites like this.

See if your phone servce allows you to BLOCK numbers!

Was at a grocery store when the call was received; my policy has been to not answer calls from unknown phone numbers without checking this website. Good thing I did, about an hour after I asked my cable TV company to remove my name and number from its marketing lists.

Call from Ohio, 513-229-9279, another scammer, won't leave a message, won't talk if/when we pick up the phone, calls repeatedly. Can't we get these bogus jerks blocked somehow? Really tired of these calls, so jotted down all the dates, names and numbers that came across my caller ID and gave it to the local sheriffs department. Phone company doesn't have blocking feature, so they recommend sheriffs dept. Really sorry to have to do that, but someone has to get the job done!

Too many weekly calls from unknown.

Like most of the comments left here, I didn't answer the phone when I didn't recognize the number. Caller ID said Ohio. I can block 30 numbers on my phone and have to continuously remove an older one to add the latest one. The world is in a sad state when you not only have to block numbers, but that 30 isn't enough!! I read a comment here that someone has one of the newer Panasonic phones that has the ability to block up to 250 numbers. I've been getting more calls per day over the last few weeks than I have in awhile. My neighbor has noticed the same thing. These calls are more often than not from scammers trying to figure out how to take your money or identity. Legitimate businesses will honor the Do Not Call list but scammers won't.

(I wish they had "scammer" or "phisher" as one of the choices in the Call Type box)

Keep calling and leaving no message. Stop them already!

I received a call from this number! I am on the "Do Not Call List" and I do not wish to be bothered by solicitors!
