Left a partial message with incomplete phone number so not sure which scam it was being used for. Had to listen twice because at the end it sounded like he said "have a bad day" but I guess it was have a "blessed day". Should probably work on their communication skills better. Will block this number and wait for the next one to pop up I guess.

Same story as most people here, woman called telling me that she is calling to "fix my computer." I asked her what the name of her organization was, she said "we fix computers." I said "I know that, but what's the name of your company?" She said "I..." then she got disconnected.

If there's anything that's different here, my Caller ID read  "Garden City, NY"
    • Caller: Apparently they fix computers!

Same IRS lawsuit, final notice message. Caller ID said it was from a payphone. Didn't answer and ignored it.

I didn't recognize the number from New York, so I didn't pick up. Figured when voicemail kicked in, they would hang up. No..actually left a recorded message saying it was the IRS and I was being sued and I should call back to get it straightened out! You hear about these fake calls on the news, but really never thought I'd get one. Would be nice if these people were caught because I'm sure there are people, especially the elderly, that are being scammed by these losers.

These are criminal extortionists operating in overseas boiler rooms using VOIP to alter their identities and locations and out of the reach of US law enforcement.

If someone calls saying he's an IRS agent and demands that you send money immediately, hang up.
It's a phone scam.In fact, it tops the IRS "Dirty Dozen" list of tax scams this year, and it's been surging in recent months, the agency said Thursday.

The Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA), which oversees the IRS, has received reports of 290,000 scam calls since October 2013 and said nearly 3,000 victims have been swindled out of $14 million so far.

By altering their caller ID number to make it look like they're calling from an IRS office, these scammers often threaten vulnerable people like the elderly and new immigrants with things like arrest, deportation or the loss of their driver's license if they don't pay immediately for money purportedly owed.

Often leaving messages that say it's "urgent" you call them back, the scammers use common names and sometimes say they are from the IRS Criminal Division. They may even claim to know the last four digits of your Social Security number and send follow-up emails that appear to be from the IRS, TIGTA said.

They often demand that payments be made by prepaid debit card.

Once they make their threats, the scammers have been known to call back and again disguise their caller ID so it appears they are calling from the police department or the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

Or sometimes when they call, they may say you have a refund due and ask you to provide personal information so you can claim it.

The real IRS will usually contact you by regular mail first, if it needs to contact you at all. And the agency never demands immediate payment by phone or asks for credit card or debit numbers if they do call. It also never asks for personal or financial information by email, text or social media.

If you get what you suspect is a scam call, report it to TIGTA through its Web site or call 800-366-4484.

Got call from 516-746-9347, from "New York." I did not answer. It left a message. A computerized voice claimed to be from IRS giving me a final notice on a lawsuit they had against me. This is an obvious scam, the IRS never makes calls like this nor would they leave such a message.

Call with no message on my unlisted land line that is left unplugged most of the day to stop telemarketers from calling. I plugged this phone in for one hour and got six unsolicited calls of which I answered none. What a racket.

The call came from a payphone. Left a message (woman speaking in grave tones tells me I'm being sued by the IRS and to contact them immediately at 509 587 3082) After I finally stopped laughing I blocked the number. Glad I finally bought a phone system with robust call blocking capabilities. Can't imagine living without that utility. The DNC list is a joke and unlisted numbers no longer protect us from unwanted calls.
