Its about state medical marijuana renewals, and they have to be cagey

I got a call from this number (listed as State of MI DMB) in regards to my medical marijuana renewal, asked for me by name, asked for date of birth and last 4 digits of soc --- I was plenty concerned at first -- until I noticed that the woman calling knew details of my application (what day I sent/they received the certified mailed packet) etc.

At first she would not identify other than saying something about 'state of michigan Licensure" and "did you apply lately for a license" in an odd way (but at least giving a date that corresponded to my mmj application)

Apparently the purpose of the call was there was a problem where my social security number didn't exactly match up on all my applications over the years (I went back after the call and looked at my copies from years gone by and don't see it, but my handwriting leaves a bit to be desired).

Once it finally clicked in (with the date of the application) it was all good. but she did tell me she's not allowed to 'disclose' who they are or what its about until/unless you acknowledge you're you and so forth. I might not be explaining this well, but it makes sense (like when you get a call from a doctor's office who won't tell you details or who they are until they know they have the right patient).

None of the call types listed apply, so leaving it as "unknown" although "government' would have been a good choice if it had been an option.

Scary yes, but in the end, a legit call.

I still don't know exactly what the "DMB" part stands for.

05/15/13 Got home from work and found the number 517-335-0002 on my caller id log but no message was left. I called the number this morning and it said it was a non working number and to call their operator at 517-373-1837. I called that number and explained what had happened. The operator said that number could not get incomming calls but could only make outgoing calls. She said that she could not tell who it was from and that the only thing I could do is wait for them to call me back. The "operator" did not sound quite right. Something was very strange about her but she was very nice and calm.

This number was on caller ID this afternoon and it had the same identifying number you all are reporting. I just find it strange that these posts are from 2009 and 2010 and they are still calling people.

The State of Michigan's Lansing phone system all goes through a main trunkline, so every outgoing call from any area State office shows up under this or one of a handful of other generic numbers.  Just a feature of how the State's phone system is set up; so it could be anyone from the State, whether it's your friend calling to arrange lunch or someone calling on official business.

It is a legitimate number for outgoing calls from the State for Michigan, for any number of reasons.
A message was left for me regarding: winning a state lottery second chance drawing.
The call back number was not the same.

This number called me today and asked for me by name. My daughter answered and let him know I wasn't available. So, he left the name Rasheed and a callback number of 866-861-0005. When I called it, I got a message saying I was eligible for a $100 Walmart card (one eyebrow now raised), then asked me to press 1 to speak to a representative. So, I pressed 1 and got an obviously Indian woman on the phone (two eyebrows raised as it was obviously an overseas call center). She asked for my name on the pretext of looking me up to see why I got a call, and while her system is looking me up she's going to tell me all about the $100 Walmart voucher they're going to send me completely free...except for the shipping and handling charges. At this point I tell her to hold on because I'm not interested in any such "offer" and that the original call had an ID reading that it was form the State of MI, which this seems to have nothing to do with...the disconnect click came around the time I began to say something about the State of MI on the caller ID...but, just to be sure, I said Hello a couple times, then heard the disconnect tone.  At least they didn't insult me by trying to keep up the lie once caught lol Too bad the "Call Type" on here doesn't have SCAMMER as an option...

This number called me and said they were the state of Michigan wanting to know where my business was, and how many employess I have. Told them to take a jump in the lake. The state of Michigan does and will not contact you by phone. Only by a letter. And if it is important. By certified letter.

As many have said it is a State of Michigan outgoing line. They will contact you by phone, because they just did me. I got the call regarding my newly adopted kids Medicaid and it came from that number, had a voicemail with a legitimate person who answered and gave a direct line. Now some of the others might be scams, but they are numbers that have been spoofed.

The State of Michigan's overall phone system runs through a handful of trunk lines.  Pretty much anyone calling you from any state office in Lansing may show up as this or one or two other numbers depending on how the computer routes the outgoing calls based on volume and timing.  You can't tell from this number what department it is, so that's why different folks keep reporting it as different state offices.  So if you get this # on your caller id, it means someone from some state office in Lansing called.  If they don't leave a message, there's no way for you to know who it was or what the actual call back number should be.  Even the person calling out has no way of knowing which of the "general" outgoing numbers is showing up on your phone.
