- JamesI've been getting several phone calls from this number and I have stated clearly that they are unwanted but they continue to disturb me.
- Caller: Siena institute
- Call type: Survey
- hCID: Siena Research (Institute). As others posted above, Siena is both a RC college (Franciscan origin) and a legitimate research/survey nfp group, thus, makes legal calls under the NDNC even on Sundays (though that does seem strange).
Siena is known for their political surveys and this is the 'silly season'.
I too have received calls without messages. Survey companies don't usually leave messages, they need to keep their calls random and based on sampling guidelines. Most of the comments made above simply don't apply, though I agree, their calls are annoying, especially multiple calls (allowable until someone answers).
This could be a cloned/smurffed number, but I doubt it. I called back and got SRI, and while the number doesn't match their main line, it never would.
So, there are really three options: 1) ignore/block future calls, 2) answer, ask politely to be removed after someone (no one here actually seems to know) asks their questions, or 3) contact their mail line during business hours and ask to be removed.
Generally, a legitimate surveyor will do so, though they probably outsource to someone else locally. If they continue to call after a 'polite ask' then call the main line and ask to speak with Leslie Foster, or email her at her lkfoster@siena.edu.- Caller: Siena Research Institute

Are you here just to make an ineffective complaint, or do you want to learn how to really reduce annoying spam / scam calls?
Click on the line that best describes your reason for posting here.
I amJust_ComplainingWe cannot stop the calls to you, or report those calls to the appropriate agencies for you. You must do that yourself. Ineffective complaints are no better than shouting out a window ... and they waste both electrons and the time of helpful people who try to answer questions when those answers are not read.
Did you know that approximately 99% of first-time visitors here do not return to read solutions to their problems? If you wish ot be among the well-informed few, and really want a solution rather than just ventilating or making an ineffective complaint, click on "Reduce_Spam", below.
I want toReduce_SpamYou have come to the right place! Although you can't stop the bad guys from calling your phone, you can reduce or eliminate the irritation by blocking the calls.
Obtain a call blocking device, app, or phone. Google (or your favorite search engine) IS your friend!
Realize that the Do Not Call list is NOT a call blocker!
Here are some tried and true methods for reducing or eliminating repeated spam / scam phone calls. Try whichever one(s) that work for you.
1. Do not answer the phone if you see an unknown number on your Caller ID ... let it go to answering machine or voicemail. Many telescammers hang up after three or four rings.
2. If you have a smartphone, get one of the inexpensive or free phone blocker apps at your online app store, and learn how to use it.
3. If your cell is not "smart", read the manual to learn how to set up a "group". Assign the scammer's phone number to that group. Also assign a "silent ring" to that group. You will not hear your phone ring if that number calls you again.
3a. Alternately, assign a "silent ringtone" as the DEFAULT ringtone. Then, assign your favorite ringtones to friends, family, contacts, businesses, etc. That way, you will not hear your phone ring, even if the scammer changes numbers! (Disadvantage: if you forget to whitelist somebody, you won't hear their calls, either)
4. For cell phones or landlines: Contact your phone service provider. They may have a facility or method to allow you to block numbers.
5. If you buy things online, you might want to google "call blocker" to see what devices or apps Amazon or other sites have to offer for landlines or smartphones.
6. DO NOT call unknown numbers back without checking who called (800notes is your friend)! All that does is verify your number is "live", and it will be shared among many spammers. There is an even more dangerous reason ... read this:
http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/blog/one-ring-cel ... ing-your-wallet
6a. Also, be aware that calling a spammer back (or pressing a key to "get on the do not call list") merely verifies that your phone is "live". You will get even more spam calls!
6b. There is also a possibility that the CallerID you see is NOT that of the real caller! The bad guys can spoof or fake what you see on your caller ID, and they can use "real" phone numbers to make you believe the call was from a legitimate company.
https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/spoofing-and-caller-id
So, the call from "your bank" or "your card issuer" or even your own area code might NOT be from those people! If the call is related to your finances, identification, health, computer or other critical information, consider calling the real company back, using a phone number on a statement (or the back of the card).
7. Consider picking up the phone, then immediately hanging up. A "real" caller will usually call you again, within seconds. A robocaller will not.

Please reply to this post, on 800notes.com, to let us know you read it, or have taken suitable actions to protect yourself. Alternately, join the 99% nonreturn group, and continue to enjoy lots of spam. - JayI did not answer. Do not answer numbers you are unfamiliar with or at least Google the number before you ever feel the need to call back...Heed the warnings here.
- deegeenon-robocall to my cell phone. My new policy when getting a call from an unknown number is to answer it and say nothing. This usually confuses the robodialer and maybe it won't call me again after hanging up. But this time it was a young woman who, after some silence, said "hello." I couldn't understand what she said next so I told her not to call me any more and hung up. Twenty years ago, I might have the patience to stay on the line, maybe participate in the survey. But no more, I am so fed up with all the unwanted, unsolicited calls from anyone, even from semi-legit places like these.

- FredwingsNumber was blocked by my phone. I must have blacklisted the number sometime in the last few years. I don’t bother blacklisting anymore because scammers have switched to using disposable numbers and rarely use a number a second time. This one appears to be a legitimate survey but I still consider it an intrusion and an unwanted call.

- Izzy replies to AnonymousI totally get what your saying - but - all companies must have the do not call registry available before they make these phone calls . One young man was talking over me when I had told him " I am on the do not call registry " He would not take no for an answer . We must all follow the law or be fined by the FTC - there are some very nice souls out there that are not on the Do not call registry who love to answer questions -- I am not one of them .
- SKeeps calling. No msgs. Don’t know anyone from there. On dnc lists.

- Tygerkat replies to Please!!!As that poster was here in 2010, I don't think you'll get a reply to your query.
- Cj| 1 replyIf you google this number you will get DN Tech as the owner of the number. It may be a survey but even non profits should have a limit on the number of times to call people and a window of time they are allowed to call. It's interesting this number goes back to 2010 as being for Siena College yet has been assigned to several people. Would be interesting to find out how much these kids make by calling annoyed people to ask questions.

- Debra A SmithUrgent:
received a call on august 29th at 4:43 pm from a so-called telemarketer stating she was from new paltz area, a college student doing a survey seeking pertinent information about the community. This survey was 50 minutes long as i disclosed all false information. I did not disclose the town or any personal information about the county i reside in! This survey then proceeded to ask personal questions regarding my income, health status, work status, financial status etc. The survey seemed to be a census report. The caller stated she was a volunteer from new paltz college and was doing surveys. Her name was kathleen and she stated she would email me another survey in which i would receive payment for. I did not give her any personal information.- Caller: UNKNOWN
