- Steve| 2 repliesGuys, this is in fact a 3rd party company working for RBC, the reason RBC says they dont have anyone working there by that name is because that is TRUE. First of all let me explain to you guys what a 3rd party is, RBC doesn't want to spend their time for their staff making these calls. So they pay another company to do this, in this case FAMTEL, they do it for other companies also. RBC gives them your number to try to sell you their insurance products and other stuff. This is why when you call RBC they say they dont have anyone by that name there, because its a different company calling on behalf of RBC.
STOP CALLING RBC AND ASKING IF THESE PEOPLE WORK THERE, THEY DONT! They work for a different company that RBC hired, get it people??? It's not fraud, they are trying to sell you something, just call the number back, block your number if you want and have your number added to their DNC list.
The reason they can get around the fact that your number might be on the national CRTC DNC list is because you have an existing relationship with RBC, educated yourself on the law. Any company that you already have something with CAN call you even if you are on the DNC list, so can charities, political parties, and newspapers, they are not subject to the DNC list, look it up. Just ask RBC to have you added to their internal DNC list and not to share your information with a 3rd party and it will stop. people stop spreading paranoia and wasting the RCMPs time and resources.- Caller: FAMTEL

- Steve replies to Skrud| 1 replyIt is NOT a scam, I'm not saying to give them ANY info, but its NOT a scam, look up the company called FAMTEL, they want to sell you credit card insurance for RBC. Everyone on this thread seems to all bank with RBC, you really think that its a coincidence? Many people at the RBC call centre have no idea because they work with some many companies, and in many cases the front line staff aren't educated on what marketing or sales is doing.
- Steve replies to ShannonTelemarketing is still a legitimate business, but they won't leave a message because you wouldn't call them back, just because you don't like what a company sells or does, doesn't make it not legitimate.
- Steve replies to Mumba| 1 replyRBC isn't breaking ANY confidence at all, they know your unlisted home number because you gave it to them. People need to educate themselves on what companies are ALLOWED to do LEGALLY with the information YOU provide them. Read the fine print, there is normally something that says "from time to time we may provide your information to 3rd parties in order to contact you about about products or services we feel maybe useful to you." This is standard these days when you sign up for anything with a company, the trick is to tell them either in writing or some way that you DO NOT WANT to be contacted by 3rd parties. Most companies have forms you can fill out for this.
Again this is information YOU provided, and if you check and READ carefully you'll see that if you don't object then its assumed consent people, nothing illegal or fishy, its all in the fine print. - Steve replies to ParanoidMuch| 1 replyThis is probably the most informative and well thought out comment posted so far, and its CORRECT. Rather then listening to the rantings and paranoid ravings of others, read this one over and it will MAKE SENSE because its true. We live in a world were we suspect EVERYTHING is a scam when you get a call, but there are still legitimate companies out there trying to do business. I'm not saying give them your info, just decline the offer and that's it and STOP FREAKING OUT.
- Steve replies to Fraud Advisory| 1 replyAnother paranoid nut bag, saying that it's in fact fraud, can you prove that? No you can't, most people are freaking out saying it's fraud without knowing the facts. Where as these replies are the ONLY ones that make sense and back it up, and once you read it over and think about it, make sense.
- Thia replies to SteveNot gonna comment on the whole fraud vs not fraud thing, but just wanted to comment on two things:
1 - name calling does not make you look very legit. In fact, it makes you come across as a shill. "Paranoid nut bag" just makes you look like, as Koothrappali would put it, a disposable feminine cleansing product one might use on a summer's eve, and "the bag it came with."
2 - You said >>>people stop spreading paranoia and wasting the RCMPs time and resources.
That's exactly what the people here are complaining about: their time being wasted with unwanted calls. Just to, you know, put that out there, since it seems to have been missed. - FraudHammer replies to SteveLooks like the shill for the fraud is getting desperate folks!!
- Scam Alert replies to SteveIt's a scam folks - I confirmed it with RBC myself.
- FraudHammer replies to SteveAnything you say, shill!!
- FraudHammer replies to SteveLooks like the fraudster's getting steamed folks!!
- Scam Buster replies to SteveLooks like a shill for the fraud posting more lies and garbage here. It's a fraud - don't be fooled - this is not RBC or anyone legitimate.
- linda deveauthis is getting annoying ,i`v asked them to stop calling ,to no avail .I do not want this telemarketer calling me anymore ,thank-you.

- Abby replies to ParanoidMuchI agree with ParanoidMuch. I also have worked in a call centre, and what he is saying is true. In your banking contract with Royal Bank you have agreed to have your number shared with 3rd party companies to receive calls on behalf of RBC. You also have the option of opting out of this, but you need to contact RBC to do that.
Until you do, you will continue to get these telemarketing calls.
It's not a scam. - heatherGot 2 calls yesterday from 705-797-2495. Didn't answer the first but did answer the second. Lady said she was calling on behalf of RBC. I asked her how she got my cell #. She kept on talking. When I said I was going to call the fraud department of RBC. She told me to go to hell. I told her where to go and Hung up. Tomorrow I am going to my bank and report this.

- This DudeGot a call from this # today, didn't answer. It's 2013 for crying out loud, I don't event answer my phone for people I know and like anymore. Don't know how these bozos think they are getting through to me that way. And to the people defending these losers, just stop. Fraud or telemarketer? It makes no difference, they are equally as slimy. You'd have a better chance defending WWII era Nazis now a days than you would a telemarketer. At least the Krauts were following orders for fear of their life, these sleazebag telemarketers are doing it for $13.50/h. Get a real job and stop being a major part of the problem.
- MJKdidnt recognize number didnt answer and no message left.
